"HMS" Surprise is a modern tall ship built at Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada. The vessel was built in 1970 as HMS Rose to a Phil Bolger design based on the original 18th-century British Admiralty drawings of HMS Rose, a 20-gun sixth-rate post ship from 1757.

USS Dolphin (AGSS-555) was a United States Navy diesel-electric deep-diving research and development submarine. She was commissioned in 1968 and decommissioned in 2007. Her 38-year career was the longest in history for a US Navy submarine. She was the Navy's last operational, conventionally powered submarine.

B-39 was a Project 641 (Foxtrot-class) diesel-electric attack submarine of the Soviet Navy. The "B" (actually "Б") in her designation stands for большая (bolshaya, "large")—Foxtrots were the Soviet Navy's largest non-nuclear submarines. In 2005 B-39 became a museum ship on display at the Maritime Museum of San Diego, California, United States. In October 2021 the decision was made to withdraw the deteriorating submarine from the collection and scrap it.

The Medea is a 1904 steam yacht preserved in the Maritime Museum of San Diego, United States. Named after Medea, the wife of Jason, she was built on the Clyde at Alexander Stephen and Sons shipyard at Linthouse by John Stephen for William Macalister Hall of Torrisdale Castle, Scotland. During World War I, the French Navy purchased Medea and armed her with a 75mm cannon for use in convoy escort duty. (Her name under the French flag was Corneille.) Between the wars, she was owned by members of Parliament. During World War II, the Royal Navy put her to work anchoring barrage balloons at the mouth of the River Thames. After World War II, Medea passed among Norwegian, British, and Swedish owners before being purchased by Paul Whittier in 1971. Whittier restored the yacht to its original condition and donated her to the Maritime Museum of San Diego in 1973. Medea was featured in the "Steam Ship Cleaner" episode of the Discovery Channel series Dirty Jobs, when Mike Rowe cleaned the inside of the boilers of the yacht.

Pilot is a pilot boat and museum ship in San Diego, California. She was launched in 1914 in San Diego, built in the local boatyard of Manuel Goularte. She is a 52-foot wooden diesel powered vessel. She was the first powered pilot boat in San Diego. She served as the official pilot boat of San Diego Bay for 82 years, with no more than three consecutive days of downtime. During World War II, the Coast Guard used her as a pilot boat and patrol boat. She received six six-month service chevrons. She was donated to the Maritime Museum of San Diego in 1996 and underwent restoration. Pilot now hosts educational tours of San Diego Bay, and sometimes accompanies other historic vessels (most notably, Star of India) into and out of the bay.

Guardian of Water is a 1939 fountain and sculpture by Donal Hord, installed outside the San Diego County Administration Center, in the U.S. state of California. The statue was dedicated on June 10, 1939.

Berkeley was one of several ferryboats of the Southern Pacific Railroad that for sixty years operated on San Francisco Bay between the Oakland Pier and the San Francisco Ferry Building. Built in 1898 by the Union Iron Works of San Francisco, she served after the 1906 earthquake, ferrying refugees across the bay to Oakland. Berkeley was in regular service beginning in 1898. On October 3, 1900, Berkeley was leaving her dock in San Francisco, when she collided with the coastal passenger liner SS Columbia. Due to a misunderstanding of signals, Captain Blaker of Berkeley thought that his ship would be able to pass in front of Columbia while the larger liner was travelling forward at a slow speed towards her dock. When the realization came that Berkeley would not be able to overcome the massive Columbia, it was too late. Despite both ships reversing thrust, the two ships collided. The collision resulted in the destruction of one lifeboat onboard Berkeley and badly injured Columbia's iron bow. The ferryboat Newark took over for Berkeley, while the latter ship was undergoing repairs. The damage caused to Berkeley was less severe than the damage given to Columbia. In the spring of 1958, she was taken out of service for repairs. She never returned to service, as Southern Pacific decided to end all ferry service on July 29, 1958. Berkeley was put up for sale, and was purchased by the Golden Gate Fishing Company to be used as a whaling processing facility. Before she was put to this use, however, she was sold to ferryboat enthusiast and businessman Bill Conover. Conover had Berkeley docked in Sausalito, a small town on the Bay in Marin County, and converted her into a gift shop called "Trade Fair". However, Berkeley was not well-maintained in her gift shop incarnation and 12 years of serious deterioration took a toll. In 1973, she was sold to the Maritime Museum of San Diego. She was towed out of San Francisco Bay by tug on May 31, 1973, arriving 3 days later in San Diego where she was subsequently restored. She currently serves as the main "building" of the Maritime Museum of San Diego. Berkeley was notable for having been the first propeller-driven ferry on the west coast. At the time of her launching on October 18, 1898, she became the largest commuter ferryboat in the United States with a 1700-passenger capacity. She was also remarkable for being one of the earliest ferries to be powered by a triple-expansion steam engine. Berkeley was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1990 and California State Historical Landmark No. 1031 in 2000. During the time she was docked in Sausalito, actor Sterling Hayden rented one of Berkeley's pilot houses as an office while he wrote his autobiography Wanderer (published in 1963).While Berkeley was under construction in 1898, the battleship USS Wisconsin (BB-9) was being constructed adjacent to her. On the evening of April 15, 1899, Berkeley may have carried the Stanford Axe from the San Francisco Ferry Building to Oakland after it was stolen by a group of University of California students following a baseball game against Stanford.

The San Diego County Administration Center is a historic Beaux-Arts/Spanish Revival-style building in San Diego, California. It houses the offices of the Government of San Diego County. It was completed in 1938 and was primarily funded by the Works Progress Administration. It was previously known as the San Diego Civic Center and as the City and County Administration Building. Because of its notable architecture and its location fronting San Diego Bay, it is nicknamed the Jewel on the Bay. Architects were Samuel Wood Hamill, William Templeton Johnson, Richard Requa and Louis John Gill. The building used innovative construction techniques to guard against earthquakes, and the project was considered to be "a prototype of American civic center architecture". The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 16, 1988.

Grande Condominiums is a condominium complex in downtown San Diego consisting of two towers, Grande North and Grande South, completed in 2005.

Monarch School is a public K-12 school in San Diego, California, which is exclusively for students who are homeless, at risk of being homeless, or impacted by homelessness. It was founded in 1988. At that time it was the only such school in the United States. As of 2021 it is still largest and most comprehensive K-12 program for homeless students in the U.S. The school enrolls approximately 350 students ranging in age from 4 to 19. Monarch is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and aligned with Common Core Standards.Monarch School is a public-private partnership between the San Diego County Office of Education and the nonprofit Monarch School Project. The nonprofit organization was initially headed by Ronne Froman, a former Navy admiral and former chief operating officer of the city of San Diego. In January 2012 Froman became chairman of the board of directors and Erin Spiewak replaced her as CEO. Spiewak's involvement with the school began in 2003 as a volunteer; in 2004 she was named volunteer of the year.The school originated in 1988 as "The PLACE," an acronym for Progressive Learning Alternative for Children's Education. It began as a drop-in center, then found a small location to function as a school in 1990. It started with just one teacher, Sandra McBrayer, who was later named the national Teacher of the Year in 1994. McBrayer had been teaching juvenile offenders in the court school system when she came up with the idea of a school specifically for homeless children. "I realized that part of our responsibility is to take school to the students and not just wait for them to come to us," she said in 1994.From 2001 until 2013 the campus was located on West Cedar Street in the Little Italy neighborhood of Downtown San Diego. That facility started with 48 students; by 2002 it had reached its capacity of 150 students. By 2009 enough classrooms were added to be able to serve students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The school grew to be over capacity and had to turn away eligible students, according to Froman. Ground was broken in February 2012 for a much larger facility in a remodeled warehouse at 1625 Newton Street in the East Village neighborhood. The estimated cost of the new facility is $14.4 million, most of which came from private donations. The new location opened in May 2013 and is named the Nat & Flora Bosa Campus, to honor a couple who donated the money to purchase the West Cedar Street location, as well as giving $5 million toward construction of the new campus. The facility can serve up to 350 students a day. In addition to a comprehensive educational program, the school is able to provide for other needs such as food, hygiene, clothing, school supplies, transportation and counseling.

County Center/Little Italy is an at-grade station on the Blue Line and Green Line of the San Diego Trolley system. It is located along the Surf Line right of way between West Beech Street and West Cedar Street, in the Little Italy neighborhood of Downtown San Diego. The area has a variety of medium and high-density housing, and is also the site of the County Center, the location of many buildings for the Government of San Diego County. County Center/Little Italy station opened on July 2, 1992 and served as the northern terminus for the North/South Line (later renamed the Blue Line) until the line was extended to Old Town Transit Center in June 1996. This station was closed from August 6 to October 14, 2012, for renovations as part of the Trolley Renewal Project.

The Grande at Santa Fe Place is a high-rise residential building in San Diego, California, United States composed of two towers of equal height. The 39-story towers have a height of 420 feet (130 m) and are a prominent fixture in San Diego's skyline. Located in the Core district of Downtown San Diego, The Grande at Santa Fe Place was designed by the architect firm Perkins & Company Architecture and Urban Design Inc. The towers are currently tied with Vantage Pointe Condominium as the tenth-tallest buildings in San Diego.
