Kiltallagh (Irish: Cill Tulach, meaning 'church of the hillock'), sometimes known as Kiltalla, is a civil parish in the historical barony of Trughanacmy in County Kerry, Ireland. Castlemaine is the largest settlement in the civil parish. The local Roman Catholic church, dedicated to Saint Carthage, is in Castlemaine Parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kerry. The Church of Ireland church, in Meanus townland in Kiltallagh, is also dedicated to Saint Carthage (or Cartach) and is in the Diocese of Tuam, Limerick and Killaloe. Built in 1816 on the site of an earlier church, it is listed on the Record of Protected Structures by Kerry County Council. Trughanacmy (Irish: Triúcha an Aicme) is a barony in County Kerry, Ireland. The barony is an obsolete administrative area, having ceased to have any government function since the enactment of the Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898. In 1881 the barony had an area of 195,147 acres (789.73 km2).

Castle Maine

Castle Maine, also recorded as Castle Magne and Castlemaine, was a medieval castle located at what is now Castlemaine, County Kerry. The castle, built in 1215, stood on a bridge over the River Maine. A defensive structure of considerable importance in Munster, it belonged first to the Earls of Desmond and later to the English Crown. Castle Maine was besieged on several occasions, including during the Nine Years' War when the garrison resisted for thirteen months. It was destroyed in 1652 during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland.

Killaclohane Portal Tomb

Killaclohane Portal Tomb is a megalithic tomb located in the townland of Killaclohane, about 2km east of Milltown, County Kerry, Ireland. This Neolithic tomb dates to 3800 BC and is Kerry’s oldest man-made structure and earliest identified burial monument. In 2015, the portal tomb or dolmen was in imminent danger of collapse and was excavated and restored by a team led by Kerry County Archaeologist, Dr Michael Connolly. Prior to the excavation of Killaclohane Portal Tomb, very little was known about Neolithic settlement in Kerry and the beginning of agriculture.

Knockmoyle transmitting station

There is also a large restored castle (Ballyseedy Castle) which is in use as a hotel.

Firies

Firies ( officially Firies; Irish: Na Foidhrí) is a village in County Kerry, Ireland in the barony of Magunihy. It is situated midway between the hub towns of Killarney (14.5 km), Tralee (16 km), Castleisland (16 km) and Killorglin (13 km). It is on the R561 road between Farranfore and Castlemaine. The population at the 2016 census was 558. There are two principal rivers, namely the Maine and its chief tributary, the Brown Flesk.
