EC1 Łódź – City of Culture

The National Centre for Film Culture (Narodowe Centrum Kultury Filmowejis, or NCKF) a cultural institution in Łódź, Poland, co-run by the City of Łódź and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. NCKF is a cultural institution, museum, archive, conference centre and cinema at the same time. The mission of NCKF is to disseminate knowledge about film and to educate in the field of film and audiovisual culture. The permanent exhibition of the centre is the largest exhibition in Poland on national cinematography and presents 120 years of the history of Polish film.

Łódź Fabryczna (Polish pronunciation: [faˈbrɨt͡ʂna]) is the largest and most modern railway station in the city of Łódź, Poland. It was originally constructed at the initiative of industrialist Karl Wilhelm Scheibler in 1865. In the old Polish classification of stations it was placed under the B category. The station is located in the centre of Łódź. Trains depart frequently via Koluszki to Warszawa Wschodnia, Kraków, Częstochowa, and Tomaszów Mazowiecki. It was closed on 16 October 2011 as a part of a major redevelopment project to build a new railway station and transport interchange and reopened on 11 December 2016.

The Centre for Comics and Interactive Narrative in Łódź is a museum dedicated to Polish comic art and video games, located within the EC1 – City of Culture complex, on the grounds of the former power plant on Targowa Street in Łódź. The institution opened to the public in 2023; at the same time, it became the official organizer of the annual International Festival of Comics and Games in Łódź. The Centre is the first and only museum in Poland entirely devoted to comic art and video game art, and the largest museum devoted to comics and interactive media in Central and Eastern Europe. The mural adorning the façade of the Center for Comics was created by South Korean illustrator Kim Jung Gi. The director of the Centre is Adam Radoń.

Faculty of International and Political Studies at the University of Łódź was established on 1 September 2000. The Faculty has the first research category. In the Polish context it implies the highest quality of conducted research which is both interdisciplinary and internationalized. It is interdisciplinary because it combines various disciplines in the field of international and political studies. Additionally, studies at the Faculty of International and Political Studies combine scientific achievements of the humanities, social and economic sciences, including marketing and management, and political science. International cultural studies, focussing on diverse geographical areas and selected cultural problems of international significance, are also of high importance.

Alexis de Tocqueville Center for Political and Legal Thought, founded in 2007, is a research thematic unit within the Faculty of Law and Administration, at the University of Łódź, Poland. The Chairman of the Center is renowned Locke scholar, Zbigniew Rau. Members of the Center's Board are leading personalities of Polish politics and science. The Center recalls the intellectual and conceptual heritage of Alexis de Tocqueville, the author of Democracy in America. This heritage includes the traditions which dominate in contemporary political discourse; it combines conservatism and liberalism with the Christian vision of Western identity and the republican ethos of civic participation. It derives its political, institutional, and legal conceptions from the analyses of particular social relations and avoids constructing any abstract, a priori models of public life. It perceives the fundamental values of our time, such as liberty, equality, democracy, the rule of law, efficient public policy, civil society, and self-government as remaining far from any harmony and coherence. In fact, this heritage leaves much room for axiological skepticism, inspires a movement of ideas, and requires cognitive objectivism. In its activities, the Center considers this heritage crucial for any civic commitment as well as research endeavor.

The University of Łódź (Polish: Uniwersytet Łódzki, Latin: Universitas Lodziensis) is a public research university founded in 1945 in Łódź, Poland, as a continuation of three higher education institutions functioning in Łódź in the interwar period — the Teacher Training Institute (1921–1928), the Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences (1924–1928) and the local division of the Free Polish University of Warsaw (1928–1939). The University of Łódź (alternative spelling: University of Lodz) is a fully accredited, state-owned, traditional university. It is one of 18 institutions of its type in Poland.It has more than 25,000 students and 2,600 teachers. Its international cooperation includes 385 partner institutions from all over the world. A range of BA, MA, and postgraduate courses held in English as a language of instruction are offered to Polish and overseas students.

The School of Polish for Foreigners (SoPfF/SJPdC) is an educational institution and part of University of Łódź. Its main purpose is to prepare foreign students to study at Polish universities. The School of Polish for Foreigners was established in 1952 in Łódź. At first it was focused only on enabling people from other countries to study at Polish Universities, but since the early 1990s it is being transformed into both an academic and educational facility. The SoPfF in Łódź is the oldest institution of this kind in Poland and for over thirty years it was the only such school in the country. It has educated people from over 80 countries in the world. Every year about 300 students graduate from SoPfF. During all the years of the school's activity, its employees have managed to create unique workbooks for foreigners willing to learn Polish language. They have also prepared, with a considerable help of the students themselves, different multilanguage vocabularies - an invaluable help for anyone teaching and learning Polish language. The workbooks produced in the school became a base for syllabi created at other such facilities in the country. The school prepares foreign students to undertake studies at many different fields of interest. Students take technical, medical, and economics courses, among others.

Edward Abramowski Street is a street in the southwestern part of the Downtown district of Łódź, Poland, within the Łódź City Centre area. Approximately 0.5 km long, it runs almost latitudinally from Henryk Sienkiewicz Street to Jan Kiliński Street. Since 30 October 1974, the street has been one-way, running from Jan Kiliński Street toward Henryk Sienkiewicz Street, opposite to the direction of property numbering. It forms the initial segment of county road no. 1100E, continuing via Brzeźna, Henryk Sienkiewicz, and Radwańska streets to the intersection with Inżynierska and Parkowa streets (county road no. 1168E). The entire street falls within the pastoral jurisdiction of the Parish of St. Stanislaus Kostka.

Teatr Wielki w Łodzi (The Grand Theater in Łódź) is an opera house in Łódź, Poland. It is the largest theatre in the city, specialising in opera, operetta and ballet.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (Polish: Sobór św. Aleksandra Newskiego w Łodzi; Russian: Александро-Невский собор) is a Christian Orthodox church located in the city of Łódź, in central Poland. It was built in the late 19th century as a gift from the local industrialists to the small Orthodox community present in Łódź at the time. The church consists of many ornate elevations and has a richly decorated interior featuring an iconostasis manufactured in St. Petersburg.
