Valley Stream Central High School

Pagan-Fletcher House is a historic home located at Valley Stream in Nassau County, New York. It was built about 1840 and is a two-story, clapboard sided dwelling, five bays wide with a shallow central portico. It has a one-story rear wing with an exterior end chimney. It was extensively remodeled in the early 20th century to the Colonial Revival style, when the farmhouse was more than doubled in size. It is the only surviving 19th century structure in Valley Stream. The house was the site of the village's first post office.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.The house has been restored by the Valley Stream Historical Society to an early 20th-century appearance. It is open to the public on Sunday afternoons.

Valley Stream State Park is a 97-acre (0.39 km2) state park located in the village of Valley Stream in Nassau County, New York. The park is one of three state parks located in the Town of Hempstead on Long Island. Like Hempstead Lake State Park, Valley Stream State Park contained Cornell's Pond, a feeder reservoir for the Ridgewood Reservoir. This park opened in 1928 together with Southern State Parkway, Hempstead Lake State Park, Belmont Lake State Park, and Heckscher State Park. Initially the park included Cornell's Pond, which had a freshwater beach that charged an admission fee of 10 cents. Crowded and unsanitary conditions led local residents to lobby for its closing in 1947. In 1958, the state to transferred the park's southern portion with this pond to the Village of Valley Stream. It reopened as the village-operated Arthur J. Hendrickson Park.Valley Stream State Park is a day-use facility, convenient to the Southern State Parkway (exit 15A). The park offers a nature trail, cross-country skiing, a playground and playing fields, horseshoe, volleyball, basketball, and bocce ball courts, picnic tables and pavilions, fireplaces and grills, and recreation programs. Pets are not permitted.

Valley Stream 30 Union Free School District is a public school district in New York State that serves about 1500 students in the village of Valley Stream, New York in southeast Nassau County with a staff of 180 (121 teachers and 59 support staff). It is unique in that most school districts in New York State encompass grades K–12 while this district includes elementary grades K–6 only. It is one of three Valley Stream districts (the others are Elementary Districts 13 and 24) whose students graduate to a separately managed district, Valley Stream Central High School District, for the higher grades. Valley Stream is a station on the Long Island Rail Road's Atlantic Branch serving the residents of Valley Stream, and is the first station (traveling eastbound) in Nassau County. The station is located at Franklin Avenue and Sunrise Highway, west of Rockaway Avenue, and is 16.1 miles (25.9 km) from Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan. The station is wheelchair accessible with an elevator from street level; parking facilities and taxis are available. The station is served by trains on the Far Rockaway Branch and Long Beach Branch, as well as select West Hempstead Branch trains. On weekends, the station serves as the westbound terminal for West Hempstead Branch shuttle trains, which require a transfer to continue towards New York City.

Long Island Jewish Valley Stream (often abbreviated as LIJVS and historically known as Franklin Hospital and Franklin General Hospital), is a short term acute care hospital located in Valley Stream, New York. The hospital has 337 beds and is affiliated the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. The hospital is a member of Northwell Health.

Columbia Field, originally Curtiss Field, is a former airfield near Valley Stream within the Town of Hempstead on Long Island, New York. Between 1929 and 1933 it was a public airfield named Curtiss Field after the Curtiss-Wright aircraft corporation that owned it. The public airfield closed after 1933, but aircraft continued to be manufactured there primarily by Columbia Aircraft Corporation, which gave the private airfield its name. During its five years of operation, Curtiss Field was one of the busiest airports on Long Island. The airfield was popular with many of the famous pilots of the early days of aviation including Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart, and Frank Hawks. Several important long-distance aviation records or events were marked at the airfield. In 1929 the women's aviation group the Ninety Nines was founded at the airfield, and large airshows were often held there. After 1933 the airfield was the site of aviation manufacturing by Columbia Aircraft and Grumman. During World War II Columbia manufactured the Grumman-designed J-2F6 Duck, a single-engine amphibious biplane, under contract. The airfield was finally abandoned in 1947. The Town of Hempstead gave formal recognition to the historical importance of Curtiss Field in 2009.

Masjid Hamza is a mosque and Islamic community center located at 200 Stuart Avenue, Valley Stream, New York. It has a K–6 school system called "Hamza Academy", and has one of the big mosques in Valley Stream. The masjid is located fifteen minutes away from John F. Kennedy International Airport and serves about 1,400 families. The masjid currently offers use of the masjid for the five daily prayers, adult and children's Quran classes, and Taraweeh in the month of Ramadan. The masjid originally started as a 2 bedroom house, but as a result of the growing Muslim community in Valley Stream, expanded to a bigger building in 2007. In the 2015 annual fundraiser, the masjid announced plans for expansions, which they did by purchasing 3 adjacent properties The founding brothers of this mosque are Jawaid A. Minhas, Iqbal Motiwala, Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed and several others.

Westwood is a station on the Long Island Rail Road's West Hempstead Branch serving the villages of Malverne and Lynbrook, New York. The station platform is located on Foster Avenue in Malverne, with parking facilities on both the Malverne (Foster Avenue at Motley Street) and Lynbrook (Whitehall Street at Whittier Street) sides of the tracks. It has no station building other than a pair of open shelters, the larger one on the Malverne side of the tracks. It also features a gated at-grade pedestrian crossing, one of only a few stations on the Long Island Rail Road to feature such crossings. No buses connect to Westwood station, however local suburban taxi cabs do stop there. A basketball court can be found on the Malverne side of the station between the platform and parking lot.

Green Acres Mall is an indoor shopping mall located in South Valley Stream, New York, off Sunrise Highway in Nassau County near the border of New York City and the Incorporated Village of Valley Stream. As of 2022, the mall currently features two Macy's locations, as well as a Primark coming soon. The mall currently features staples like Express, H&M, and Forever 21. The mall has a gross leasable area (GLA) of 2,069,000 square feet (192,200 m2). The mall is the 15th largest in the United States. The mall is extremely popular in Nassau County and in the neighboring New York City borough of Queens. The mall is accessible by many Nassau Inter-County Express routes as well as two MTA New York City Bus routes, the Q5 and Q85, that cross the city border.

Valley Stream South High School (VSSHS) is a combined public junior and senior high school located in South Valley Stream, New York, in southwest Nassau County on Long Island. The school was established in 1955.The high school is one of three high schools in the Valley Stream Central High School District as well as one of two combined junior-senior high schools which educate grades seventh through twelfth. Students who attend Valley Stream South High School are mainly graduates of the local South Valley Stream elementary schools, including William L. Buck Elementary School, Brooklyn Avenue Elementary School, Forest Road Elementary School, and Robert W. Carbonaro Elementary School which is approximately 600 feet to the junior-senior high school complex. Valley Stream South High School is known to the local population simply as "South".Valley Stream North High School was built at the same time. Both schools were originally similar in architecture and were arch rivals in to sporting events. During the 2007–2008 school year, South's athletics division was changed to Division 3 due to the size of the student body. The school has three floors and was originally designed in the shape of a cube with a landscaped courtyard in the center.As of the 2014-15 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,275 students and 91.9 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.9:1. There were 282 students (22.1% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 64 (5.0% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.The school's official colors are red and white. The school's mascot is the falcon.
