East Milford is a rural community of the Halifax Regional Municipality in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia in the Shubenacadie Valley.

Lantz is a designated place located on the Shubenacadie River between the communities of Milford and Elmsdale, in the Municipality of East Hants and the Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada. Lantz was considered by Statistics Canada as a "Retired population centre."As of 2011, the population according to Nova Scotia government was 3,326 but only 1,533 according to Statistics Canada. In 2016 Census, Statistics Canada reported the population of Lantz was 2,229, an increase of 45.4%.

Milford Station (pop. 1,000) is a village in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is located in the East Hants municipal district in the Shubenacadie Valley. The community is home to the largest open-pit gypsum mine in the world.

Hants East Rural High (HERH) is a Canadian high school located in Milford Station, Nova Scotia. The school was opened in 1957 and is administratively part of the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board. One of its feeder schools is Riverside Education Centre, also in Milford Station. Notable alumni include: musical artist Classified, athlete Tracy Cameron, and professional wrestler Lincoln Steen. Approximately 1,000 students attend the school, which includes grades 9 through 12.

The main road Highway 14 (Hardwoodlands Rd.) connects the community to the Trans-Canada Highway and to the other rural community Nine Mile River.

Belnan is a small community in Nova Scotia, located on Route 214. Belnan is located between Elmsdale and Nine Mile River. It is located in the Rawdon/Maitland region of the Glooscap Trail, Hants County.

Oldham is a community of the Halifax Regional Municipality in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. It was named for Oldham in the Greater Manchester area.Oldham was a gold mining community in the 1930s and 1940s. It is located about 2.5 km from the local town of Enfield. Oldham was a place for travellers to stop while en route from the Guysbrough Rd to Enfield, Halifax, and other surrounding areas. The family name Cole is prominent in the community with many other family names such as Whidden, Chaplin, Graham, Miuse, McPhail, Dowell, Dunfords, Publicover, Browns, Reeves. Many families are related to each other and Oldham is a tight-knit community. Baseball and hockey were also games that the kids would play on the dirt road and in the fields.

Gays River is a rural community of the Halifax Regional Municipality and Colchester County in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. The community is located along the Gays River, from which the community derives its name. The Wilson family was an early settler there in 1861 and operated a family farm for many generations, including a sawmill.

The Shubenacadie Valley is a Canadian rural region in central Nova Scotia. The picturesque Shubenacadie River flows through the valley, which is framed by low hills from its source at Shubenacadie Grand Lake in north-central Halifax County, then through a rolling landscape of rich soils left by glacial deposits through the border area of eastern Hants County and southwestern Colchester County. The valley is a historic transportation corridor in the province, having once been a portage route for the Mi'kmaq Nation and European settlers. The Shubenacadie River was incorporated into the ill-fated Shubenacadie Canal system which linked the Atlantic coast to the Bay of Fundy until it was made redundant shortly after completion by the Nova Scotia Railway which was built through the valley; this railway was merged into the Intercolonial Railway and today is owned and operated by CN Rail. During the 1970s, the Highway 102 expressway was constructed between Halifax and Truro to relieve traffic pressure on the historic Trunk 2. Resulting from its location astride the Halifax-Truro transportation corridor, the communities in the Shubenacadie Valley are experiencing a high rate of residential growth as they become a suburban/exurban area of Halifax.
