Louise Dean School is a public combined junior and senior high school in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, that teaches Grades 9 through 12. It is designed exclusively for teenage mothers, both current and expectant. It is operated by the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) with assistance from The Catholic Family Service of Calgary; despite the organization's name, the program is secular. The school was named for Louise Dean, who was an elected trustee of the CBE born in 1896.

Queen Elizabeth High School (QEHS) is a Canadian public combined junior and senior high school in Calgary, Alberta, which teaches grades 7 through 12. The junior (7–9) and senior high (10–12) programs share a common principal, many teachers, and other resources of the school. It is operated by the Calgary Board of Education. QEHS operates separately from Queen Elizabeth Elementary School, even though the two schools are physically adjacent to each other.

Hillhurst is a community located within the inner city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The boundaries of the community are 8th Avenue NW to the north, 10th Street NW to the east, the Bow River to the south, and 18th Street NW to the west. The communities of Hillhurst and the neighbouring Sunnyside together form the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Association. The two communities have an area redevelopment plan in place, revised in 2009.The popular Kensington Business Revitalization Zone (BRZ) adjoins the Hillhurst community. It is an active family-friendly commercial area, abundant with amenities.

Hounsfield Heights/Briar Hill is an inner suburban neighbourhood in northwest Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Located north of the Hillhurst and West Hillhurst communities, the boundaries of the district are 16th Avenue N (Trans-Canada Highway)to the north; 14th Street W to the east; Lane north of 7th Avenue N to 19th Street W and 8th Avenue N to the south; and Crowchild Trail, 12th Avenue N, Juniper Road, and 22nd Street W to the west. Lions Park C-Train station and North Hill Centre are located within the community. In the early 90s, a gas station located in the North Hill Centre parking lot was found to have been leaking fuel, contaminating the soil and groundwater in Hounsfield Heights with benzene and 1,2-Dichloroethane. The community is built on an escarpment and is popular for its views of downtown to the south and the Rocky Mountains to the west. The community was annexed by the city of Calgary in 1906, and it was established as a neighbourhood in 1953.

Lions Park station is a CTrain light rail system in Hounsfield Heights and Briar Hill, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Opened on September 7, 1987 as part of the original Northwest Line (Route 201). It is located on the exclusive LRT right of way on the south side of 14 Avenue NW, just east of 19 Street NW. Two side-loading platforms with ramp access from grade level as well as pedestrian crossings are located at both ends of the station. As part of Calgary Transit's plan to operate four-car trains by the end of 2014, all three-car platforms were to be extended. Lions Park Station had the platform extended to the East which also include an additional level crossing of the tracks, as well the pedestrian crossing of 14 Avenue NW was moved along with the platform. Construction started in Fall 2013 and finished in six months. This platform extension required no closures and didn't affect wheelchair ramp access. In 2008, the station registered an average of 5,800 weekday boardings.

Branton Junior High School is a junior high school in Calgary, Alberta servicing the Banff Trail community and surrounding area. It offers a solely French Immersion program for grades 6-9 as part of the mandates of the Calgary Board of Education.

North Hill Centre is a shopping mall in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It opened in 1958, and was Calgary's first shopping mall. The original anchor tenant was Simpsons-Sears (later Sears Canada), but it closed on January 8, 2018.

Banff Trail station is a CTrain light rail station in Banff Trail, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It serves the Northwest Line (Route 201) and opened on September 7, 1987, as part of the original line. It is located on the exclusive LRT right of way on the east side of Banff Trail NW, 4.1 km northwest of the 7 Avenue & 9 Street SW interlocking. The station consists of two side-loading platforms with grade-level access from a pedestrian crossing of the tracks at the northern end of the station. The station is also located east of the McMahon Stadium (which features 780 spaces available for commuters), and the Motel Village district, and north-east of the junction of Crowchild Trail and the Trans-Canada Highway. As part of Calgary Transit's plan to operate four-car CTrains by the end of 2014, all three-car platforms were to be extended. However, Banff Trail Station was also refurbished in addition to a platform extension. Construction began in early 2014 and continued into Winter 2014–2015. This refurbishment required an extended closure of the station. The overhaul was completed December 21, 2014. It features new LED lighting, 16 HD security cameras, heated shelters and a much more user friendly, safer contemporary feel. In 2008, Banff Trail Station registered 5,600 weekday boardings.

CBR-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting on 102.1 FM in Calgary, Alberta. It broadcasts the programming of the CBC Music network. CBR-FM's studios are located on Westmount Boulevard Northwest just west of downtown Calgary, while its transmitter is located at 85th Street Southwest and Old Banff Coach Road in western Calgary. CBR-FM was launched on September 29, 1975. The jazz program Tonic, hosted by Tim Tamashiro, originated from CBR-FM. It previously hosted only the weekend version until the retirement of Montreal-based weekday host Katie Malloch in 2012. As of Winter 2020, CBR-FM is the 14th-most-listened-to radio station in the Calgary market according to a PPM data report released by Numeris.

The opening ceremony of the 1988 Winter Olympics was held on February 13, 1988, beginning at 1:30 p.m. MST (16:30 UTC, February 13) at McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The event was officially opened by Governor General Jeanne Sauvé on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II. An audience of 60,000 spectators was in attendance at the venue, with 2,600 athletes and officials.

The closing ceremony of the 1988 Winter Olympics was held on February 28, 1988, beginning at 19:30 MST (3:30 UTC, February 29) at McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The closing ceremony had 60,000 people in attendance, including 10,000 volunteers who received free admission. It was the first Winter Olympics to stage a closing ceremony outdoors.The closing ceremonies consisted of a Parade of Athletes less formal then the opening ceremonies as athletes from all nations paraded together. The world's largest temporary ice rink was built in McMahon Stadium to showcase amateur figure skating teams as part of the closing ceremonies.The Olympic flag was lowered and Mayor of Calgary Ralph Klein passed the flag to the president of the IOC who passed it on to Henri Dujol, Mayor of the French city of Albertville, the host of the 1992 Winter Olympics. After a speech by the President of the Organizing Committee for the Games, the President of the IOC proclaims the closing of the Calgary Games and the Olympic flame was slowly extinguished.
