Briarwood East, New Jersey

Edison Oaks is an unincorporated community and residential neighborhood located within Edison Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is located in the northern half of Edison Township; south of Oak Tree, east of the Oak Tree Tennis Courts, west of the Oak Tree Park, and north of Glenwood Park, Glenwood Heights and Hampshire Gardens. The community is bordered by Oak Tree Road to the north, Warwick Road to the east, and Peru Street to the south and west, with Whitehall Avenue in the center.Edison Oaks was developed by Alfred C. Vitale through his development firm Vitality Estates between 1960 and 1961. The community consists of 60 ranch-style bi-level and split-level homes designed by architect S. J. Potter. The houses were built between 1961 and 1962 by contractors John Cali and Ignatius Seminara of the building firm Cali Associates, with residents moving into the new homes starting in autumn 1962.

John P. Stevens High School (abbr. JP or JPS) is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from the northern end of Edison, in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is one of two high schools in the Edison Township Public Schools District, the other being Edison High School. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1969 and is accredited through July 2029.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 2,643 students and 162.3 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 16.3:1. There were 169 students (6.4% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 42 (1.6% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.For the 2018 school year, the school offered 22 AP courses, with 50% of students participating, and 90% of participants receiving a passing AP score. The school also offers 54 student clubs, 25 varsity sports, a choir, band, and orchestra. The school has a 97% graduation rate with 95% of students enrolling in college (80% in 4-year programs and 15% in 2-year programs).

Pumptown (also known as Pumptown Corners) is an unincorporated community located within Edison Township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States.Pumptown is named after a public pump that stood in the middle of the intersection of Park Ave. and Plainfield Rd. It is a suburban neighborhood (based on population density), its real estate primarily made up of medium-sized (three- or four-bedroom) to large (four- or more bedroom) single-family homes and townhomes. Most of the residential real estate is owner-occupied. Many are older, well-established, built between 1940 and 1969. A number of residences were also built between 1970 and 1999.

St. Thomas Aquinas High School, formerly known as Bishop George Ahr High School, is a private four-year college preparatory and coeducational Roman Catholic high school for students from ninth through twelfth grades. It is located on a campus covering 34 acres (14 ha) in the northern section of Edison, in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school operates under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen.As of the 2017–18 school year, the school had an enrollment of 739 students and 69.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.6:1. The school's student body was 55.5% (410) White, 16.6% (123) Asian, 14.5% (107) Hispanic, 8.1% (60) Black and 4.7% (35) two or more races. Students attend the school from Middlesex, Union, Monmouth, and Somerset counties in Central New Jersey. The administration and teaching faculty hold B.S. or B.A. degrees; a significant percentage have M.A. degrees; and some hold a Ph.D. degree. St. Thomas Aquinas High School is overseen by the New Jersey Department of Education and is accredited by AdvancED.

Stephenville (also called Stephenville Ranch, Stephenville Ranch Homes or Stephenville Village) is an unincorporated community and residential neighborhood located within Edison Township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The community is centered around Park Avenue, which borders the south and west ends of the community, Stephenville Parkway, a median strip-street which runs east–west in the center of the community, and Plainfield Road, which borders the east end of the community. An eastern addition to Stephenville was planned in the early 1950s, east of Plainfield Road, but after years of political, residential and township issues, it was ultimately abandoned and portions were sectioned off into different communities during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Stephenville is located between Sutton Hollow to the north, the Oak Tree-Stephenville Park to the northeast, Hampshire Gardens, Carriage Hill and Arrowhead Park to the east, Woodbrook Corners to the south, and Park Gate and New Petrograd to the west.Stephenville was developed and built by contractor Frank P. Tufaro through his building and development firm Terra-Nova Construction Company, with plans designed by architect Erwin Gerber. The community was named after Tufaro's eldest son, Stephen D. Tufaro. When first developed in the late 1940s, the rural community was unattached to nearby neighborhoods, but by the early 1950s, it was often linked as a sub-section of Oak Tree due to the school and fire districts. The community originally had its mail delivered by the Borough of Metuchen Post Office and its sewer system was connected to the Metuchen Sewer Treatment Plant. Bigger and newer township-wide schools were built, replacing neighborhood-based schools, and the postal service routes were re-organized as more land was developed between existing communities in the 1950s and 1960s, leading formerly distinct communities in Edison Township to blur their dividing lines. Stephenville was largely responsible for getting Raritan Township to construct a modern sewer system in the northern part of the township. Local neighborhoods up to that point had septic systems installed to each house, but the land had poor seepage due to the proximity of Dismal Swamp and residents experienced frequent raw sewage overflow. The community took up their case with the Raritan Township Board of Commissioners, the Raritan Township Board of Health, the Federal Housing Administration, the New Jersey Department of Health and the Veterans Administration in the early 1950s and successfully pushed for the township to modernize sanitary living conditions.

Metuchen High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Metuchen in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as the lone secondary school of the Metuchen School District. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1929.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 726 students and 63.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.4:1. There were 27 students (3.7% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 10 (1.4% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

St. Joseph High School, also known as St. Joe's, is an independent, all-boys Roman Catholic college preparatory school located on a 70-acre (280,000 m2) campus in Metuchen and Edison, in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school draws students from an area encompassing over forty school districts and over seventy grammar schools in Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties, as well as other outlying areas. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1968.St. Joseph is operated by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, who have been active in American education since their arrival from Lyon, France, in 1847. From 1901 to 1961, St. Joseph served as a center for training and educating Brothers prior to their apostolate. The school opened in September 1961 as a high school open to the public. The main school building was dedicated in the spring of 1963. There are both lay and religious teachers. As of the 2019–20 school year, the school had an enrollment of 507 students and 35 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 14.5:1. The school's student body was 66.7% (338) White, 15.4% (78) Hispanic, 10.3% (52) Asian and 7.7% (39) Black.Since 2018, Anne Rivera is the principal for St. Joe's. She replaced Justin Fleetwood, who was promoted to president of the school.

John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFKMC), an affiliate of Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH), is a 499-bed full-service, acute care hospital, and the home of the JFK Johnson Rehabilitative Institute. It is affiliated with Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and is located in Edison, New Jersey. In 2021 it announced an affiliation with the St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center, also in New Jersey.

Potters was an unincorporated community and now is neighborhood located within Edison Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.In the northern part of the township, Potters was once known as Potters Crossing, and may have been an African-American community as early as the 1800s. Centered around Inman Avenue and Grove Avenue, it is believed that seven upper-middle-class families moved to the village from Harlem in 1917. The community grew in the 1920s, with families from the South. By the 1940s, it had more than 1,500 residents and included three churches and a volunteer fire department.As early as 1955, Edison was pushing for a federal housing project to eliminate the slum areas of Potters. The community was dispersed during an urban renewal projects in the 1960s and 1970s. It was largely and replaced by the James D. Elder Park and two low-income housing development projects: Greenwood Townhouses and Colonial Square Townhouses. The Mount Pleasant Baptist Church was relocated in 1978.

The Middlesex Avenue–Woodwild Park Historic District is a historic district located in the borough of Metuchen in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 31, 2017. It includes 197 contributing buildings, five contributing objects, and one contributing site.

The Dismal Swamp is a marshy area in Middlesex County in central New Jersey. The marshes border the towns of Edison, South Plainfield, and Metuchen.The Dismal Swamp is a wetland ecosystem located in an urban environment. The swamp covers nearly 650 acres (3 km2) with 12 acres (0 km2) located in Metuchen with the remaining portion in Edison and South Plainfield. The swamp contains a number of wildlife species, including the endangered loggerhead shrike. There are an estimated 165 different species of birds in the swamp.
