St. Joseph High School, also known as St. Joe's, is an independent, all-boys Roman Catholic college preparatory school located on a 70-acre (280,000 m2) campus in Metuchen and Edison, in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school draws students from an area encompassing over forty school districts and over seventy grammar schools in Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties, as well as other outlying areas. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1968.St. Joseph is operated by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, who have been active in American education since their arrival from Lyon, France, in 1847. From 1901 to 1961, St. Joseph served as a center for training and educating Brothers prior to their apostolate. The school opened in September 1961 as a high school open to the public. The main school building was dedicated in the spring of 1963. There are both lay and religious teachers. As of the 2019–20 school year, the school had an enrollment of 507 students and 35 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 14.5:1. The school's student body was 66.7% (338) White, 15.4% (78) Hispanic, 10.3% (52) Asian and 7.7% (39) Black.Since 2018, Anne Rivera is the principal for St. Joe's. She replaced Justin Fleetwood, who was promoted to president of the school.

The 1924 Nixon Nitration Works disaster was an explosion and fire that claimed many lives and destroyed several square miles of New Jersey factories. It began on March 1, 1924, about 11:15 a.m., when an explosion destroyed a building in Nixon, New Jersey (an area within present-day Edison, New Jersey) used for processing ammonium nitrate. The explosion touched off fires in surrounding buildings in the Nixon Nitration Works that contained other highly flammable materials. The disaster killed twenty people, destroyed forty buildings, and demolished the "tiny industrial town of Nixon, New Jersey."

The Ayers-Allen House is a historic home located at 16 Durham Avenue in the Borough of Metuchen in Middlesex County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 5, 1985, for its significance in architecture. The c. 1740 building, also known as Allen House Tavern, for its previous function, was built by descendants of early settlers to Woodbridge Township and remained in the family for many generations.

St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral is a Catholic cathedral located in Metuchen, New Jersey, United States. It is the seat of the Diocese of Metuchen.

The Metuchen Municipal Building, located at 500 Main Street, is the town hall for the borough of Metuchen in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The two-story concrete building, with brick facade, was built in 2003 and dedicated on September 1, 2005.

Metuchen ( mə-TUTCH-ən) is a suburban borough in Middlesex County in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The borough is a commuter town of New York City, located in the heart of the Raritan Valley region within the New York Metropolitan area. The borough, along with Edison (which completely surrounds Metuchen), is a regional commercial hub for Central New Jersey. The borough is 6 miles (9.7 km) northeast of New Brunswick, 17 miles (27 km) southwest of Newark, 20 miles (32 km) southwest of Jersey City, and 22 miles (35 km) southwest of Manhattan. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 15,049, an increase of 1,475 (+10.9%) from the 2010 census count of 13,574, which in turn reflected an increase of 734 (+5.7%) from the 12,840 counted in the 2000 census.Metuchen was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 20, 1900, from portions of Raritan Township (now known as Edison). Downtown Metuchen won the honor of Great American Main Street of the Year in 2023.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen (Latin: Dioecesis Metuchenis) is a Roman Catholic diocese in New Jersey, centered in the borough of Metuchen. It was established on November 19, 1981, from the territory of the Diocese of Trenton. The diocese encompasses the New Jersey counties of Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren. The Bishop of Metuchen presides from the Saint Francis of Assisi Cathedral in Metuchen. The diocese counts more than 600,000 Catholics within its purview, distributed across more than 90 parishes, ministered to by over 160 priests residing in the diocese, with 100 non-resident priests and 150 deacons assisting. Six hundred religious serve the schools and various organizations throughout the diocese.

The Mary Wilkins Freeman House is a historic house located at 207 Lake Avenue in the Borough of Metuchen in Middlesex County, New Jersey. It was the home of the author, Mary Eleanor Wilkins Freeman (1852–1930). Built c. 1868, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 17, 2020, for its significance in literature from 1902 to 1907.

The Metuchen Post Office is a historic United States Post Office located at 360 Main Street in the Borough of Metuchen in Middlesex County, New Jersey. Listed as United States Post Office, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 2, 2008, for its significance in architecture, art, communications, and politics/government.

The Middlesex Avenue–Woodwild Park Historic District is a historic district located in the borough of Metuchen in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 31, 2017. It includes 197 contributing buildings, five contributing objects, and one contributing site.

Metuchen is an active commuter railroad train station in the borough of Metuchen, Middlesex County, New Jersey. Trains at Metuchen station are serviced by New Jersey Transit's Northeast Corridor Line between Trenton Transit Center or Jersey Avenue and New York Penn Station. The next station to the south is Edison while the next station to the north is Metropark. Amtrak services cross through the station without stopping. The station consists of two side platforms with a wooden station depot on the northbound tracks. Metuchen's station depot and the New York-bound platform are accessible from Woodbridge Avenue (County Route 660) while the Trenton-bound platform comes from Main Street (County Route 531). There is no station agent at Metuchen station, resulting in the use of ticket vending machines. Metuchen station opened on July 11, 1836 with the completion of the New Jersey Railroad to East Brunswick (location of modern-day Highland Park). The railroad built a station depot at Main Street by 1850. When the Lehigh Valley Railroad opened their line in the 1870s, the Pennsylvania Railroad moved Metuchen station to the Lake Avenue crossing to provide connection to the new railroad. The railroad moved Metuchen station one last time, to the current location in 1888. A secondary station in Metuchen existed from 1879–1911 known as Robinvale. Robinvale station burned twice: once on February 28, 1915, and once on March 27, 1915. Amtrak serviced Metuchen station from its inception on May 1, 1971 until October 26, 1975.
