San Nicolò l'Arena, Catania

The Monastery of San Nicolò l'Arena in Catania, Sicily is a former Benedictine monastery, located on Piazza Dante 30 in the city of Catania, region of Sicily, Italy. After the Mafra, this abbey is the second largest Benedictine monastery in Europe. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site (as a part of Val di Noto World Heritage Site), and houses the Department of Humanities of the University of Catania.

The Conservatorio delle Verginelle di Sant'Agata (Conservatory of the Young Virgins of St Agatha) is a former orphanage-hostel and church located on via Teatro Greco #82, with the northern facade paralleling Piazza Dante and the Monastery of San Nicolo l'Arena in the center of the city of Catania, region of Sicily, Italy. Presently it houses the facilities of the Faculty of the Scienza della Formazione of the University of Catania, educating future science teachers.

The Baths of the Rotonda (Italian: Terme della Rotonda) are the remains of one of several Roman public baths in the city of Catania, Sicily. Built between the 1st and 2nd century CE, they are not far from the Roman theatre and the odeon. In the Byzantine era, the church of Santa Maria della Rotonda with its characteristic dome was built upon the remains of the Roman baths. Its walls are still covered in medieval and baroque frescoes.

Santa Rita in San'Agostino, sometimes just called Sant'Agostino, is a Roman Catholic parish church and sanctuary, located on Via Vittorio Emanuele II #318, in Catania, region of Sicily, southern Italy. The church was formerly attached to an Augustinian convent, and known as Sant'Agostino. But in the 20th century was dedicated as a sanctuary to Santa Rita of Cascia.

The deconsecrated Chiesa della Purità is a former Roman Catholic church, with a large adjacent conservatory or orphanage; both structures are located on via Santa Maddalena #39 in Catania, region of Sicily, southern Italy. It is located on the hill of Montervergine, where via Santa Maddalena encounters via Giuseppe Auletta, a block south of the church of Sant'Agata la Vetere. The former conservatory extends the full block west along Via Plebiscito. The former church now functions as the auditorium for the faculty of jurisprudence of the University of Catania. The former conservatory is encompassed by public schools: including Istituto Comprensivo.

Santa Maria dell’Aiuto is a Roman Catholic parish church and located on Via Santa Maria dell’Aiuto #80, where it encounters Via San Giovanni and Via Consolato della Seta, in Catania, Sicily, southern Italy.

The Roman Theater of Catania (Teatro Romano di Catania) consists of site with the ruins of two open air semicircular Ancient Roman theaters, located between Piazza San Francesco, via Vittorio Emanuele, via Timeo and via Teatro Greco in the center of Catania, region of Sicily, southern Italy. The site consists of the larger theater and a smaller semicircular theater, an Odeon. The structure is part of the Parco archeologico greco-romano di Catania.

San Benedetto is a late-Baroque architecture, Roman Catholic church and former Benedictine monastery in the city Catania, Sicily, southern Italy. The church facade faces Via Crociferi, parallels across via San Benedetto the former-Jesuit church of San Francesco Borgia, and both are about a block south along Crociferi from the church and convent of San Giuliano. Entrance to church and monastery appear to be through Piazza Asmundo #9 near the apse of the church.

Santa Chiara is a Roman Catholic church located on Via Garibaldi #100 in the center of the city of Catania, Region of Sicily, Italy. The monastery located behind the church presently houses a gallery of modern art.

Sant’Agata la Vetere is a Roman Catholic church located in the piazza of the same name (along via Santa Maddalena) in Catania, Sicily, southern Italy. East of church and nearby, but facing in the other direction, are two other churches venerating St Agatha of Sicily: the church of Sant'Agata al Carcere and two blocks east on Piazza Stesicoro is Sant'Agata alla Fornace, now known San Biagio.

San Camillo dei Mercedari, also called San Camillo de Lellis after its titular saint, or San Camillo ai Crociferi after the founding monastic order founded by Camillo de Lellis, the Camillians known popular as the Crociferi, which also gives name to the street which it faces, via Crociferi. Located on #71, is a Roman Catholic church located in the piazza of the same name in Catania, Sicily, southern Italy; the church is one of four major baroque church-monasteries on this street, the others being San Francesco Borgia (Jesuit), San Giuliano, and San Benedetto (both the latter, Benedictine nuns).
