Stevens Avenue Armory

Engine Company Number Nine Firehouse, also known as the Arbor Street Firehouse, is an historic former firehouse at 17 Arbor street in the North Deering neighborhood of Portland, Maine. It was constructed in 1902-03, shortly after Deering was annexed to Portland. It was built to reflect Portland's commitment to the newly annexed suburb as well as due to the city's switch to a paid fire department. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in October 2010. It now houses a commercial business.

The Westbrook College Historic District is a historic district in the Deering neighborhood of Portland, Maine. It is centered on the campus of the former Westbrook College, founded in 1831 as the nation's first coeducational boarding school. The college merged with the University of New England in 1996. The district, which includes six buildings constructed between 1833 and 1952, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Alumni Hall is a historic building on the campus of University of New England in Portland, Maine, United States. Completed in 1834, it is now part of the Westbrook College Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Morrills Corner is a neighborhood and major intersection in Portland, Maine, United States. Centered around the intersections of Forest Avenue (part of U.S. Route 302 and State Route 100), Allen Avenue (SR 100) and Stevens Avenue. It was once home to some of the oldest families in what was the city of Deering. The Kennebec and Portland Railroad was laid through the neighborhood in 1847. It was abandoned in 1911. The Boston and Maine Railroad also ran through Deering Junction. From 1914 to 1933, the Portland–Lewiston Interurban entered Portland via the Portland Railroad line from Morrills Corner. Morrills Corner is named for brother Rufus and Levi Morrill, who lived there in the early 1800s. Lot Myrick Morrill, a governor of Maine, lived at Morrills Corner until he was 23.

Catherine McAuley High School was an all-girls' college preparatory school in Portland, Maine. Run by the Sisters of Mercy, it was located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland. The school was established in 1969 and was named for the Sisters' founder, Catherine McAuley. Catherine McAuley High School was the successor school of two other all-women's Mercy schools, Saint Joseph's Academy (1881–1969) and Cathedral High School (1909–1969). In July 2016, the school building was transferred to The Maine Girls' Academy. In July 2018, The Maine Girls' Academy announced that it would not reopen for the following school year.

The Maine Girls' Academy (MGA) was an independent high school for girls located in Portland, Maine. Founded in 2016 as the successor to Catherine McAuley High School, the school was nonsectarian and not sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, which previously sponsored Catherine McAuley High School.

Forest Avenue (formerly known as Green Street; colloquially known as Forest Ave) is a major street in Portland, Maine, United States. It runs for around 4.78 miles (7.69 km), from Bridgton Road in the northwest to Congress Street, in downtown Portland, in the southeast. It is the main artery for traffic entering and leaving Portland to and from the west via city streets. Forest Avenue passes to the south of Back Cove, while Washington Avenue passes to its north. The street ends in Portland's Arts District. Forest Avenue is part of U.S. Route 302 (US 302) for almost its entire course. US 302 reaches its eastern terminus at Forest Avenue's interchange with Interstate 295 (I-295) and U.S. Route 1 (US 1) at the southern end of the Back Cove neighborhood.

Evergreen Cemetery is a garden style cemetery in the Deering neighborhood of Portland, Maine. With 239 acres (97 ha) of land, it is the largest cemetery in the state. Established in 1855 in what was then Westbrook, the cemetery is home to one of the state's most prominent collections of funerary art. The 140-acre (57 ha) historical portion of the cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Lincoln Middle School is a middle school in the Deering Center neighborhood of Portland, Maine. The school is located on Stevens Avenue, which has the unusual distinction of having an elementary school, middle school, two high schools, and a college all situated on it. The new principal of the school as of the 2014–2015 school year is Suellyn Santiago who was the assistant principal and a math teacher previously. Lincoln Middle school is divided into houses, 2 for each grade (6,7,8). The students at Lincoln primarily come from three of Portland's many elementary schools, Riverton, Hall, and Longfellow, which is also located on Stevens Avenue. The mascot of Lincoln Middle School is the Lion.

Mayor Baxter Woods Park is a nature reserve and municipal forest in the Deering Center neighborhood of Portland, Maine, USA. The land which became Baxter Woods was owned by Congressman Francis Ormand Jonathan Smith. He died in 1876 and his estate sold the forest to canning magnate, land developer, and future Mayor James Phinney Baxter in 1882. When J.P. Baxter died in 1921, it had not been developed during the preceding building boom and was bequeathed to his son Percival P. Baxter. In April 1946, Percival Baxter donated the land to the City of Portland on the condition that it would "...forever be retained and used by [the] City in trust for the benefit of the people of Portland as a Municipal Forest and Park and for public recreation and educational purposes". On June 19, 1956, U.S. Senator Frederick Payne mentioned the land in a speech honoring Percival Baxter, calling the land a "beautiful nature sanctuary given by you in honor of your father..."Covering 29 acres (120,000 m2), Baxter Woods is the largest undisturbed forested area in the city. The park is bordered by major roads Stevens Avenue to its east and Forest Avenue to its west. Its trail connects to Evergreen Cemetery and is also close to Baxter Boulevard.

Stevens Avenue (known colloquially as Stevens Ave) is a major street in the Deering neighborhood of Portland, Maine, United States. Part of Maine State Route 9 from Woodford Street southward, it runs for around 2 miles (3.2 km) from Forest Avenue, at Morrill's Corner, in the north to Outer Congress Street in the south. Stevens Avenue passes to the west of Woodfords Corner. Between Morrills Corner and Woodfords Corner, Stevens Avenue is linked to Forest Avenue by several side streets. Several notable buildings stand on Stevens Avenue, including Stevens Avenue Armory, the University of New England's Portland campus, Evergreen Cemetery and Baxter Woods. The street passes through Westbrook College Historic District, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. Stevens Avenue is named for Isaac Sawyer Stevens (1748–1820), who built a home at 628 Stevens Avenue in 1767. It was demolished in 1947.
