Ösmo railway station

Ösmo (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈœ̂sːmʊ]) is a locality situated in Nynäshamn Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden with 3,911 inhabitants in 2010. It has a station on the Stockholm commuter rail network, Nynäshamn line (Nynäsbanan).

Södertörn is a roughly triangular peninsula and artificial island in eastern Södermanland, Sweden, with an area of 1,207 km² and is bordered by: Lake Mälaren, the Hammarby Canal and the inlet of Saltsjön (a part of the Baltic Sea) to the north, The Baltic Sea (the Stockholm Archipelago) to the east and the south, Himmerfjärden and Hallsfjärden (parts of the Baltic Sea) to the west as well as The Södertälje Canal to the northwest. The Södertälje Canal and Hammarby Canal are man-made waterways, so the peninsula of Södertörn is not fully separated from (the rest of) the Swedish mainland or the island of Södermalm by nature, although Södertörn is classified as an island by Statistics Sweden, and the third largest island in Sweden. Since 2005, the whole of Södertörn has been included in Metropolitan Stockholm. Before that, the southern parts of the island, which lie within Nynäshamn Municipality, and the western parts, which are in Södertälje Municipality, were – although in Stockholm County – not included in the metropolitan area. The northern areas of Södertörn are to a large extent made up of rift valley countryside (and urban areas) with high ground which is either pine forest or bare. The long valleys of the south become level ground. The waters surrounding the area are either freshwater or brackish water with poor salinity. The bedrock is almost entirely gneiss. The highest point on Södertörn is Tornberget in Haninge at 110.9 metres (363.8 feet) above sea level. It is located in Hanveden, a large area of largely coniferous forest south of Stockholm, whose eastern areas partially form the Tyresta National Park. The southernmost parts of Södertörn were connected to Stockholm in 1901, when the Nynäs Line was opened. The railway runs between Nynäshamn in the south and Älvsjö in the north, where it joins with the main southern railway.

Nynäshamn is a station on Stockholm's commuter train network, located in Nynäshamn within Nynäshamn Municipality and is the terminus for the Nynäs Line. On a normal winter weekday, the station has about 900 boarders (2015). The station has three tracks, which end with stop buffers. Entrance to the platform is geographically from the north (the track runs in a half loop through the city and ends in the "wrong" direction). The station no longer has an entrance building or ticket hall, but has weather protection on the platform. Nynäshamn is used as a transfer to the Destination Gotland ferries to the island of Gotland.

Nynäsgård is a station on Stockholm's commuter rail network, located 60.6 km from Stockholm Central Station and 3.3 km from Nynäshamn station on the Nynäs Line. The station has two side platforms and no ticket barriers. As of 2015, the station had approximately 1,000 boardings per weekday.

Gröndalsviken is a station on Stockholm's commuter rail network, located in the Estö/Gröndal district of central Nynäshamn, 62.4 km from Stockholm Central Station and 1.5 km from Nynäshamn station along the Nynäs Line. The station opened on 18 August 2008, replacing the former station at Nynäs havsbad, approximately 800 meters away. The station consists of a single side platform along a single track and lacks a ticket hall or fare gates. The area surrounding Gröndalsviken includes a park-and-ride facility. As of 2015, the station had approximately 700 boardings per weekday. Along with Bålsta, it is one of the only commuter rail stations in Stockholm with a single track.

Sailing/Yachting is an Olympic sport starting from the Games of the 1st Olympiad (1896 Olympics in Athens, Greece). With the exception of 1904 and the canceled 1916 Summer Olympics, sailing has always been included on the Olympic schedule. The Sailing program of 1912 consisted of a total of four sailing classes (disciplines). For each class two races were scheduled from 19 July 1912 to 22 July 1912 off the coast of Nynäshamn at the Baltic Sea.

Herrö, or Herrön, is an island in the southern part of Stockholm archipelago, which forms part of Nynäshamn Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden. Herrö is connected to the neighbouring islands of Himmelso and Yxlö by road bridge, and Himmelso is in turn connected to the mainland by a further bridge. The road across the bridges and island is known as the Muskö road and was originally built in the 1960s to provide access to the Muskö Naval Base.

Nynäshamn is a locality and the seat of Nynäshamn Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden with 13,510 inhabitants in 2010. While interest in the area as a potentially useful port grew from the mid-19th century, it was only with the opening of the railway station to Stockholm in 1901 that Nynäshamn started to develop. During the early 20th Century, Nynäshamn also became well known as a spa town, though most such facilities were closed down before the end of World War I. Main industries arrived through Telegrafverkets verkstäder (the factories of the Government owned telephone company) in 1916 and an oil refinery built in 1928-29 by Axel Ax:son Johnson & Co. The latter still remains though under different ownership and under the name Nynas. Nynäshamn was the venue of the Olympic sailing regatta in 1912. Nynäshamn, which lies about 60 km south of Stockholm, is well known for being one of the places on the Swedish mainland from where ferries to the island Gotland depart. This is a hugely popular destination for Swedes of all ages in the summer months. The Polferries terminal also offer regular routes to Gdańsk in Poland. Several cruise ships on tours in the Baltic Sea also stay in the harbour, because they are too large to go into Stockholm. A harbour party is hosted each summer, as well as local craft fairs. During these events a steam train often runs routes to and from Stockholm. During the summer months, the harbour is packed with boats of all sizes, and bustles with both visitors and locals. There are a number of eateries and boutiques with locally made produce. The main town is mainly modern and the buildings uninteresting generally. A library and one screen cinema is centrally located, and a limited amount of shops catering to mainly to local trade. Many people in Nynäshamn live in apartment blocks, situated in estates, although there are none more than 10 stories high. There are also plenty of villas scattered throughout the town, and terraced houses. Life in Nynäshamn is generally relaxed, in contrast to the bustle of Stockholm. The surrounding nature and sea provides plenty of photographic opportunities, once you get out of the town centre. Crime is low. Nynäshamn is served by Stockholm commuter rail (Pendeltåg) and several bus routes. Popular singer Meja, and ice hockey player Kent Nilsson were born in Nynäshamn.
