Alger ([al.ʒɛʁ], Arabic: الجزائر al-Jazā’ir) is a former French department in Algeria. The département of Alger existed between 1848 and 1974.

Hussein Dey is a district in Algiers Province, Algeria. It was named after the Ottoman provincial ruler of the Regency of Algiers. He had installed his country house near the beaches of the suburb of Algiers. On the shores of Hussein Dey had failed in 1541 the ships of the fleet of Charles Quint. Located on the seafront, between the Jardin d’essai, Maison Carree Kouba. Hussein Dey had several counties in its periphery: Leveilley, Brossette, La Montagne, Bel Air, La Cressonnière, Panorama, Eucalyptus, Côte-Blanche, Côte-Rouge, and Lafarge.

Stade Frères Zioui (Arabic: ملعب الإخوة زيوي) is a multi-use stadium in Hussein Dey, Algeria. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of NA Hussein Dey. The stadium holds 7,000 people.

Echorouk TV (Arabic: الشروق تي في) is an Algerian Arabic language satellite television channel broadcasting from Algiers. Echourouk TV was set up by Echourouk Group with a number of Arab intellectuals from Algeria and the Arab World.

Kouba is a suburb situated on a height just south-east of the central city of Algiers in northern Algeria. It is home to the Kouba city council and the church of Kouba, which was built during the French colonial times. Its name refers to "Qubba", which means "dome".

The Test Garden of Hamma (Arabic: حديقة التجارب الحامة) (French: Jardin d'Essai du Hamma) is a 32-hectare (79-acre) botanical garden (38 hectares (94 acres) of gardens and 20 hectares (49 acres) of arboretum) located in the Mohamed Belouizdad (formerly Hamma-Anassers) district of Algiers. It was established in 1832.

The Raid on Algiers took place on 11 December 1942, in the Algiers harbour. Italian manned torpedoes and commando frogmen from the Decima Flottiglia MAS were brought to Algiers aboard the Perla-class submarine Ambra. The participating commandos were captured after setting limpet mines which sank two Allied ships and damaged two more.

The National Museum of Fine Arts in Algiers (french: Musée national des Beaux-Arts d'Alger) is one of the largest art museums in Africa. Opened to the public since 5 May 1930, it is located in the Hamma district, next to the Hamma test garden. The museum, with its 8,000 works, includes paintings, drawings, engravings and old prints, sculptures, old furniture and decorative art, ceramics, glassware, as well as a numismatic collection. Among the works on display are paintings by Dutch and French masters such as Brugghen, Van Uyttenbroeck, Van Goyen, Monet, Matisse, Delacroix, Honoré Daumier, Renoir, Gauguin and Pissarro. But also emblematic Algerian artists, such as Baya, Yellès and Racim. The museum houses sculptures by Rodin, Bourdelle and Belmondo. On 14 May 1962 over 300 works of art were brought to the Louvre in Paris from the Museum.
