The Shoppes at Carlsbad is a shopping mall in Carlsbad, California. The mall was originally named Plaza Camino Real when it was built in 1969, but was rebranded several times when it was a Westfield Holdings property (1994-2015). Its anchor stores are JCPenney and Macy's (in two locations). A Robinsons-May closed in 2006, while Sears closed on December 15, 2019.

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon ("agua hedionda" means "fetid water" in Spanish) is a lagoon in Carlsbad, California, that is fed by the Agua Hedionda Creek. Stewardship of much of the lagoon is held by the Encina Power Station and its owner NRG Energy. In November 2000 the Agua Hedionda Lagoon was designated as a critical habitat for the tidewater goby.

Carlsbad Village station is a commuter rail station in Carlsbad, California, that is on the NCTD COASTER commuter rail line. It is one of two COASTER stations in Carlsbad (the other being Carlsbad Poinsettia station about four miles to the south), and is the last station used for northbound COASTER trains before reaching the northern terminus of Oceanside Transit Center. Along with Encinitas station, this is one of two single-track stations on the Coaster line, causing a bottleneck for rail traffic. The 1887-built Carlsbad station, which was used by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway until 1960, is located 0.1 miles (0.16 km) to the south. The former station now serves as the city's visitor center. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993 as the Carlsbad Santa Fe Depot.On October 7, 2013, the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner began stopping at four COASTER stations: Carlsbad Village, Carlsbad Poinsettia, Encinitas and Sorrento Valley. The Carlsbad Poinsettia and Encinitas stops were discontinued on October 9, 2017. The Carlsbad Village and Sorrento Valley stops were dropped on October 8, 2018, due to changes with the cross-ticketing arrangement with COASTER and NCTD.

Carlsbad State Beach is a protected beach in the state park system of California, United States, located in Carlsbad. It is a San Diego County beach with coastal bluffs. Popular activities include swimming, surfing and bodyboarding several nearby breaks, scuba diving, fishing, and beachcombing. Many visitors camp on the campsites on top of the cliffs. Access to the beach is through the multiple staircases and also one ramp. Amenities include showers, bathrooms, electricity, water, Wi-Fi, and a camp store. There are 220 campsites total. The 44-acre (18 ha) park was established in 1933.

Split Pavilion was a public sculpture by the American artist Andrea Blum, located in Carlsbad, California. Installed in 1992, the sculpture was the subject of significant local controversy. It was ultimately removed by the city of Carlsbad in 1999.

Carlsbad by the Sea (CBTS) is a continuing-care retirement community in the city of Carlsbad, California. It traces its history to the original mineral springs discovered in 1882 that was key in the development of the city. The retirement community was begun in the original Carlsbad Mineral Springs Hotel & Spa which was later demolished and replicated by the current structure. The history of CBTS was commemorated in 1998 by a historical marker at its Carlsbad site.

The Claude "Bud" Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant is a desalination plant in Carlsbad, California, north of the Encina Power Station. The San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA), the recipient of the fresh water produced by the plant, calls it "the nation’s largest, most technologically advanced and energy-efficient seawater desalination plant." Opened on December 14, 2015, the entire desalination project cost about $1 billion for the plant, pipelines, and upgrades to existing SDCWA facilities to use the water.

Buena Vista Lagoon is a freshwater lagoon adjacent to the Pacific Ocean in the South Coast region of Southern California within North County, San Diego County. The lagoon covers 223 acres of wetland habitat and serves as a geographic border between Carlsbad and Oceanside. Buena Vista Lagoon is managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The lagoon is home to the Buena Vista Audubon Society Nature Center, and is California's first Ecological Reserve. Two non-profit organizations are committed to the preservation and management of the lagoon: the Buena Vista Audubon Society and the Buena Vista Lagoon Foundation

Army and Navy Academy is an elite private college-preparatory military boarding school for boys in Carlsbad, California. Founded in 1910, the academy admits boys in grades 7 through 12.

The Encina Power Station (EPS) was a large natural gas and oil-fueled electricity generating plant located in Carlsbad, California, in San Diego County. Constructed in 1954, it was one of the major suppliers of electricity for the region. On December 11, 2018, the plant was put into "retired" status and officially stopped operations. Under an agreement approved by NRG Energy, SDG&E and the City of Carlsbad in January 2014, NRG must tear down the old plant within three years of its retirement. The plant is owned by NRG Energy.

Terramar is located in Carlsbad, California. It is a small oceanfront neighborhood community developed by William Cannon in the 1950s. It has its own Association called the Terramar Association, with a set of rules. The Terramar Association has a quarterly newsletter called the Terramar Tides. Terramar has a number of breaks, but is primarily known as a longboard break. It has private (gated) access to the beach (not all homes in this neighborhood are oceanfront). The beach access consists of a "Deck" that is elevated above the ocean and has benches, tables, BBQ, surfboard rack, and outdoor shower.
