542 East State Street, also known as the William Wall House, is a historic building in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is located in the northeastern tything of Greene Square and was built c. 1818 (although a plaque on its front states it was the home of Joseph Ryan in 1791). It is part of the Savannah Historic District. It was originally built for William and Charlotte Wall, leaders in the Second African Baptist Church.

538 East State Street is a historic building in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is located in the northeastern tything of Greene Square and was designated a historic building in 1973. Originally built for a William Ricker in 1818, it was later sold to an Abraham Ricker in 1821. Then in 1861 it was held by Joseph Burke, a cotton merchant and co-founder of the Bank of Commerce, until 1868. It is part of the Savannah Historic District, and it stands immediately to the east of the John Dorsett House, the smallest free-standing house in the city.

John Dorsett House (also known as Tiny House) is a historic building in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is located at 536 East State Street, in the northeastern tything of Greene Square, and was built in 1845 for New York City-born shipbuilder John W. Dorsett by Dix Fletcher. The city's smallest free-standing house, it was moved from 422 Hull Street, in Savannah's Crawford Ward, in the mid-20th century. The structure is part of Savannah's Historic District.Dorsett was the father of Charles H. Dorsett, president of Savannah's Peoples Savings and Loan Company. He was married, from 1838 to his death (around 1845), to Sarah R. (Fletcher). John died when his son was eleven months old.

124 Houston Street is a historic building in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Built by Isaiah Davenport, it is located in the northwestern trust lot of Greene Square and was built between 1814 and 1816. It is part of the Savannah Historic District.The property formerly extended to the north, right up to East State Street, but it has since been shortened by about one quarter. Its dormer windows have also been removed.

117–119 Houston Street (also known as The Henry Cunningham House or The Henry Cunningham Estate) is a historic building in Savannah, Georgia, United States. A duplex, it is located on Houston Street in the northwestern tything of Greene Square and was built in 1810. It is part of the Savannah Historic District. Originally built for the founder and first minister of the Second African Baptist Church, Reverend Henry Cunningham and his wife Elizabeth, a business owner. Their home is considered the oldest building constructed for a Person of Color in Savannah.The duplex is currently configured with the 119 unit as two bedrooms and one bath, and the 117 unit as two bedrooms and one-and-a-half baths. The building is currently operated as a vacation rental.

Greene Square is one of the 22 squares of Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is the easternmost square in the second row of the city's five rows of squares. The square is located on Houston Street and East President Street, and is south of Washington Square, east of Columbia Square and north of Crawford Square. The oldest buildings on the square are at 510 East York Street, 509 East President Street (both former properties of George Jones) and 503 East President Street (Thomas Williams House), each in the southwestern trust/civic block, which are believed to have been built at the same time as the square itself (1799).The square is named for Revolutionary War hero General Nathanael Greene, an aide to George Washington. A native of Rhode Island, Greene commanded Southern forces during the Revolution, and after the war settled at Mulberry Grove, an estate fourteen miles (23 km) above Savannah. Greene, along with his son, is actually buried in Savannah's Johnson Square. 134 Houston Street, in the square's southeastern tything block, dates to the late 1800s. Between 1899 and the mid-1900s it was the home of the Kate Baldwin Free Kindergarten.Greene Square was once the center of Savannah's African-American community. In the northwestern trust lot is the Second African Baptist Church, the site where Union Army general William Tecumseh Sherman announced Special Field Orders 15, better known as "40 acres and a mule". 546–548 East President Street (known as the Mary Cullum Property, now occupied by the Green Palm Inn) are two seamen's cottages, built circa 1897.The John Dorsett House, in the northwestern tything, is the smallest free-standing house in the city, hence its nickname Tiny House. The Susannah Clarke Cottage is a historic building in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is located at 517 East York Street, in the southwestern corner of Greene Square, in the Savannah Historic District. It was built for Susannah R. Clarke at some point between 1801 and 1808.Historian and preservationist Mary Lane Morrison found the building to be of significant status. It is also listed in The National Trust's Guide to Savannah, which notes that it was one of many Savannah houses built low to the ground "with a rustic add-on porch or front gallery."

510 East York Street is a home in Savannah, Georgia, United States, located in the southwestern trust lot of Greene Square. It was built around 1799, as a property of U.S. senator George Jones, making it one of the three remaining buildings original to the square and one of the few remaining 18th-century buildings in the city. It is part of the Savannah Historic District.In 1851, it was owned by Mary E. Coe.A survey for Historic Savannah Foundation, undertaken Mary Lane Morrison, found the building to be of significant status.

Washington Square is one of the 22 squares of Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is located in the northernmost row of the city's five rows of squares, on Houston Street and East St. Julian Street. It is east of Warren Square and north of Greene Square in the northeastern corner of the city's grid of squares. The oldest building original to the square is 510 East St. Julian Street, which dates to 1797.Built in 1790, Washington Square was named in 1791 for George Washington, the first president of the United States, who visited Savannah that year. It was one of only two squares named to honor a then-living person; Troup Square was the other. Washington Square had been the site of the Trustees' Garden. Named for the trustees of General James Oglethorpe's colony, the garden was the testing ground for a variety of experimental crops – including mulberry (for silkworms), hemp, and indigo – viewed as potential cash crops. Most of these experiments proved unsuccessful. The square was once the site of massive New Year's Eve bonfires; these were discontinued in the 1950s.In 1964 Savannah Landscape Architect Clermont Huger Lee and Mills B. They were restored in 1955 by preservationist Jim Williams (later the central character in John Berendt's 1994 book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil), his first project of over fifty he undertook before his death in 1990

The Hampton Lillibridge House is a historic home in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is located at 507 East St. Julian Street, in the southwestern civic/trust lot of Washington Square, and was built around 1797. One of the oldest extant buildings in Savannah, it is now part of the Savannah Historic District. In a survey for the Historic Savannah Foundation, Mary Lane Morrison found the building, constructed by Rhode Island native Hampton Lillibridge, to be of significant status.Lillibridge died at Shandy Hall, near Savannah, on February 14, 1801, after contracting yellow fever. His widowed second wife, Anna Orford, sold the house, at which point it became a boarding house.It is one of Savannah's few clapboard houses to have survived the fire of 1820.The home originally stood at 310 East Bryan Street, about 600 feet (180 m) away, in the northwestern residential lot of the adjacent Warren Square. The property was bought by James Arthur Williams in 1969. He moved it to its current location and restored it.

Trustees' Garden was an area of today's Savannah, Georgia (then Trustee Georgia), established by General James Oglethorpe shortly after his 1733 arrival in the city. It was dedicated to Oglethorpe's trustees (officially the Trustees for the Establishment of the Colony of Georgia in America). It was located to the east of Oglethorpe's original plan of Savannah, on land, near the bluff overlooking the Savannah River, and now partly occupied by Pirates' House (1794) and Herb House (1853), both on East Broad Street. It is now part of the Savannah Historic District. The garden was assigned to become a botanical garden which modeled the Chelsea Botanical Garden in London. Oglethorpe recruited botanists from around the world to acquire plants for the project, such as cotton, spices, indigo and medicinal herbs. The garden was hoped to bring success in the wine and silk industries and was centered on growing mulberry trees. The soil and weather conditions of Georgia were not compatible with the mulberry trees and it was not successful with wine or silk; however, it did distribute peach trees, for which Georgia is now renowned. The garden was also highly successful in growing cotton, which later became a staple of Georgia's economy. The garden had fallen into disuse by the late 1730s, well before Oglethorpe's final departure from Savannah. In 1748, Georgia's royal governor John Reynolds was granted the land, on which he built some residences.A building was built on the plot of land in 1853 to house the gardener who worked there. This building was deemed the Herb House. A hay loft, where the gardener slept, was on the second floor of the building. The first floor was used for tools and gardening supplies.Phoenix Iron Works (also known as Kehoe Iron Works) was built on the land in 1873.The garden was restored in the mid-20th century. Dolores B. Floyd, wife of Marmaduke Floyd, became the spearhead of the project, during which all of the buildings on the site were scheduled for demolition. Hansell Hillyer acquired the Savannah Gas Company in 1945, and he and his wife, Mary, assisted in the preservation of the properties. Savannah Gas Company had previously purchased a tract of land adjoining Kehoe's iron works in 1923. At the time, Savannah Gas Company was located at the corner of East Bay Street and Randolph Street. This corner of the city was later altered when General McIntosh Boulevard was built, connecting East Bay Street to East President Street.An event facility, Kehoe Iron Works at Trustees' Garden, now operates on part of the land.
