Rockaway Township is a township in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, the township's population was 25,341, reflecting an increase of 1,185 (+4.9%) from the 24,156 counted in the 2010 Census.Rockaway Township was incorporated as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 8, 1844, from portions of Hanover Township and Pequannock Township. Portions of the township were taken to form Rockaway Borough (June 19, 1894), Port Oram (June 26, 1895, now Wharton) and Denville Township (April 14, 1913). Portions of the township were annexed to Boonton Township in 1906 and to Rockaway Borough in 1908.The township shares its name with the Rockaway River and the neighboring borough. The name is derived from a Native American term, variously said to mean "place of sands", "creek between two hills" or "bushy" / "difficult to cross".A large part of the township consists of Picatinny Arsenal, a United States Army base that covers nearly 6,500 acres (2,600 ha) of the township (a portion of the facility is located in Jefferson Township), used mainly for the development of new weapons technologies, especially concerning anti-terrorism.

Lake Telemark is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Rockaway Township, in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP's population was 1,255.

The Methodist Episcopal Church, also known as the Methodist Episcopal Church of Hibernia, is a historic church built in 1869 and located at 419 Green Pond Road in the Hibernia section of Rockaway Township, Morris County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 14, 2011, for its significance in architecture and industry. Since 1970, the building has been used as a branch of the Rockaway Township Free Public Library.

Hibernia is an unincorporated community located along County Route 513 (Green Pond Road) in Rockaway Township of Morris County, New Jersey. The community takes its name from Hibernia, the classical name for Ireland.As of the 2000 United States Census, the population for ZIP Code Tabulation Area 07842 was 93. The Hibernia mines, a series of iron mines worked from pre-Revolutionary times until 1916, are located here. Since 1970, the former Methodist Episcopal Church on Green Pond Road has been used as a branch of the Rockaway Township Free Public Library.

The Rockaway Township Public Schools is a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade in Rockaway Township, in Morris County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprised of six schools, had an enrollment of 2,276 students and 224.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.1:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Public school students in ninth through twelfth grades attend either Morris Hills High School (those living in the White Meadow Lake section and other southern portions of the township) or Morris Knolls High School (the remainder of the township). Morris Hills (located in Rockaway Borough) also serves students from Wharton and some from Rockaway Borough (those mostly north of Route 46); Morris Knolls (located in Denville) serves all students from Denville and portions of Rockaway Borough (those mostly south of Route 46). As of the 2018–19 school year, Morris Hills High School had an enrollment of 1,279 students and 118.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.8:1 and Morris Knolls High School had an enrollment of 1,434 students and 128.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.2:1. The Academy for Mathematics, Science, and Engineering, a magnet high school program that is part of the Morris County Vocational School District is jointly operated on the Morris Hills campus. The two high schools are part of the Morris Hills Regional High School District.

Lake Denmark is a small lake about in Rockaway Township in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. Close by are Picatinny Lake in the southwest and the Green Pond in the northeast. It is located at an elevation of 961 ft (293 m) and has a triangle form. Lake Denmark has a max. length of about 4,000 ft (1,200 m) and a max. width of about 2,000 ft (610 m). There is a large swamp with a size of about 4,000 sq ft (370 m2) in the north which is part of the lake.

Wildcat Ridge WMA (Wildlife Management Area) is administered by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. It is located in the southern end of Rockaway Township, Morris County, New Jersey, United States off of County Route 513 (Greenpond Road). Farny State Park (undeveloped) and Splitrock Reservoir area are contiguous with Wildcat Ridge and also have public access.

The United States Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center (CCDCAC), or Armaments Center, headquartered at Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey, is the US Army's primary research and development arm for armaments and munitions. Besides its Picatinny headquarters, the Armaments Center has three other research facilities, including Benét Laboratories. The Armaments Center works to develop more advanced weapons using technologies such as microwaves, lasers and nanotechnology. The Armaments Center was established in February 2019, when it was aligned with the United States Army Futures Command along with its senior organization, the United States Army Combat Capabilities Development Command. Armaments Center was called the U.S. Army Armament Research Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC). The Armaments Center is the R&D center for armaments used by the U.S. Army, United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM), and other U.S. military organizations. It is one of the specialized research, development, and engineering centers within the U.S. Army Futures Command. Armaments Center's purpose is to provide battlefield supremacy for U.S. troops through “overmatch capabilities.” Over the past 10 years, Armaments Center has developed and released more than 20 products that have provided U.S. troops with “world’s best” capabilities, compared with products from foreign military and other U.S. defense organizations.The Armaments Center is the lead research, development and engineering of systems solutions to arm those who defend the nation against all current and future threats, both at home and abroad. Armaments Center is broken into a number of directorates such as "Weapons Systems and Technology Directorate" and "Munitions Systems and Technology Directorate".

White Meadow Lake is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Rockaway Township, in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP's population was 8,836.

Beaver Brook is a 14.2-mile-long (22.9 km) tributary of the Pequest River in western New Jersey in the United States.Beaver Brook originates near Blairstown and terminates at its confluence with the Pequest River near Belvidere.

Splitrock Reservoir is 1,500 acres (610 ha) of wilderness (part of Farny State Park), surrounding a 650 acre reservoir, located on the borders of Rockaway Township and Kinnelon, in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. Splitrock, along with the nearby Boonton Reservoir, provides water for Jersey City, New Jersey. The reservoir is surrounded by woods and can be reached by traveling a mile on a dirt road known as Split Rock Road. The reservoir is three miles from end to end, with many large islands. There is a man-made dam on the southwest end of the reservoir. The reservoir and surrounding natural area were opened to the public on November 21, 2003.

Farny State Park is a 4,866-acre (19.69 km2) state park located in Rockaway Township in Morris County, New Jersey in the United States. It is operated by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry.
