Makiki is an area of Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, located northeast of downtown Honolulu, stretching east to west from Punahou Street to Pensacola Street and north to south from Round Top Drive/Makiki Heights Drive to Lunalilo Freeway. Punchbowl, an extinct tuff cone, and Tantalus overlook the Makiki.

The Alfred Hocking House (now also known as Graystones) at 1302 Nehoa Street in Honolulu, Hawaii was built in 1903 for Alfred Hocking, founder of the Honolulu Brewing and Malting Company. It was designed in Queen Anne style architecture by E.A.P. Newcomb, a nationally known architect newly arrived in Hawaiʻi, in partnership with the much younger but well-connected local architect C.W. Dickey. It was listed on the Hawaiʻi and National Register of Historic Places in 1984.Even after Alfred died in 1936 and his wife in 1940, the property remained in the Hocking family until 1947, when it was bought by Dr. and Mrs. Edmund Lee. After Dr. Lee died, the house was known by the name of his widow, Rose Chang Lee. By the time she died, it was badly in need of repair. Honolulu entrepreneur Rick Ralston, founder of Crazy Shirts, then bought and restored it so successfully that it won the "1985 Award for Ground-Up Restoration" from local architects. Ralston also installed new plumbing and air-conditioning, and later sold it to a local developer whose children attended nearby Punahou School. In 2006, after they had gone off to college, he put the house on the market for $5.5 million.The name Graystones comes from its exterior walls of 21-inch slabs of hand-cut bluestone, complemented by white latticework and green and white awnings over the large wraparound porch. Inside, the house offers living space of 8,210 square feet (763 m2), including seven bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths, with a grand staircase, high ceilings, chandeliers, hardwood floors, redwood wainscoting, Palladian windows, claw-foot bathtubs, and even a fern grotto with tropical flora and a trickling stream off the dining room.

The George D. Oakley House at 2110 Kakela Place in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, was built in 1929 in the English Cottage style of architecture popular in Hawaiʻi during the 1920s and 1930s. This house is one of the finest of only two dozen or so extant houses of similar style in the state. Signature elements of the style include asymmetrical massing, a roof shaped to resemble thatch, a gable with half-timbered facade, a king post truss ceiling, diamond-shaped casement windows, decorative as well as functional wrought iron, and even a tiny window in the chimney. Its architect was Miles H. Gray, an engineer with the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps. The basement floor of acid-stained decorative concrete is also a rare surviving example of a technique pioneered by Robert D. Lammens during the 1920s. The house was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.A native of Scotland, George Oakley arrived in Hawaiʻi during the 1910s by way of the continental U.S. In 1920 he married Dean Spry and they lived in Kāneʻohe, where he managed a pineapple farm. After the farm ceased operations in 1923, he found work as a linotype operator and writer for the local newspapers until he retired in 1948. During the 1930s he served as music editor for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, writing a regular column, "Music on the Tradewinds." The family also started a business to promote musical concerts, Artists' Services of Honolulu, which between the 1930s and early 1960s brought famous talents to perform in Honolulu, including Yehudi Menuhin, Arthur Rubenstein, and the Vienna Boys Choir. After the death of their daughter, Nancy Oakley Hedemann, in 2010, the house was put on the market, with a list price of $1.2 million.

Detweiler House is a Tropical Modernism and Brutalist house in Honolulu, Hawaii. The house was built by Waialea Builders, with structural engineer Richard M. Libbey. It was designed by architect Walter Booser “Chip” Detweiler in 1973 to be his private residence.

The Honolulu Museum of Art Spalding House, formerly The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu, was integrated into the Honolulu Museum of Art under this name. It was the only museum in the state of Hawaii devoted exclusively to contemporary art. The Contemporary Museum had two venues: in residential Honolulu at the historic Spalding House, and downtown Honolulu at First Hawaiian Center. All venues continue to be open to the public.

Central Baptist Church (Honolulu, HI) is a Baptist Church in the Makiki neighborhood in the city of Honolulu. It is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.

Punahou School (known as Oahu College until 1934) is a private, co-educational, college preparatory school in Honolulu, Hawaii. More than 3,700 students attend the school from kindergarten through 12th grade. Protestant missionaries established Punahou in 1841.In 2006, it was ranked the greenest school in America. In 2017, Punahou's sports program was ranked second nationally in the MaxPreps Cup standings.Punahou's student body is diverse, with student selection based on both academic and non-academic considerations.

Sacred Heart Church-Punahou is located at 1701 Wilder Avenue, in Honolulu, in the U.S. state of Hawaii. The church was dedicated in 1914, and its adjacent Bachelot Hall was dedicated in 1923. The property's rectory was built in 1927. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places listings on February 6, 2001.

His canonical seat or cathedra is located at the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace. With his clergy, the bishop ministers to a culturally diverse population in the following languages: Hawaiian; English; Ilokano; Tagalog; Samoan; Tongan; Japanese; Korean; Spanish; and Vietnamese. It is one of the most diverse and one of the largest dioceses in the United States in terms of territorial area which spans statewide and includes unpopulated Hawaiian Islands.

President Theodore Roosevelt High School is a public, co-educational college preparatory high school in Honolulu, Hawai'i. It is operated by the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education and serves grades nine through 12. Roosevelt High School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Roosevelt was ranked as the top high school in Hawaii in 2019 by U.S. News & World Report (see State and National Ranking, below).

Maryknoll School is a private, coeducational Catholic school serving children in kindergarten through twelfth grade in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. The school is located on the island of Oʻahu and is administered by the Diocese of Honolulu in association with its original founders, the Maryknoll Society of brothers and priests and the Maryknoll Congregation also called the Maryknoll Sisters. The school is the largest Catholic School in the state of Hawaii, and the fifth largest private school in the state. As one of the unique features of the school, Maryknoll has developed 6 sister schools and 5 affiliated school connections, in China, Japan, and Vietnam. Maryknoll's International Programs promote cultural awareness, community service, and global citizenship. These programs fulfill Maryknoll School's mission to create 21st-century learners, leaders, and citizens of character, and to put to practice Noblesse Oblige. In 2017, Maryknoll started the first Chinese Immersion Program in the state of Hawaii, allowing students to learn the world's most widely spoken first language, creating global opportunities for educational and career aspirations. The school started out as a one-story wood-frame building containing four classrooms. It was blessed and dedicated in 1927 and opened with a student body of 93 boys and 77 girls in the lower grade levels. The six Maryknoll Sisters, who had arrived from New York just four days before opening day, comprised the first faculty. Maryknoll School spent its first few years further refining its mission, vision, and purpose. The Maryknoll Sisters believed in education as a choice between different educational styles and should be open to all residents of Hawaiʻi no matter what background or faith tradition. It pioneered Catholic education in the American vision that the Maryknoll Sisters developed, as opposed to the traditional European-based education, such as those at Sacred Hearts Academy and Saint Louis School. They invited all residents of Hawaiʻi to send their children to Maryknoll School for a uniquely American type of Catholic education. In 1931, the Maryknoll Sisters expanded the school to accommodate older students; in 1935, Maryknoll School graduated its first class. As of the 2017 - 2018 school year, Maryknoll School has a student body of nearly 1,100 students.

The John Guild House, now known as Manoa Valley Inn, at 2001 Vancouver Drive in Honolulu, Hawaii, was purchased in 1919 by John Guild, a Honolulu businessman. It had been built four years earlier by Iowa lumber dealer Milton Moore and has been refurbished and restored several times over its lifespan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.The house was purchased in the 1980s by Honolulu businessman Rick Ralston (the founder of Crazy Shirts), who restored it in 1982 for use as a bed and breakfast under the name John Guild Inn, later Manoa Valley Inn, the name under which it still operates. In 1990, the Nakamitsu Corporation purchased and further refurbished it.The three-story gabled cottage near the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa contains eight guest rooms furnished with fine antiques. Among its architectural features are multiple extended gables with decorative buttresses, a porte-cochere in the same style on the valley side of the house, and a broad, sheltered lanai with a view over the city on the sea side of the house.In 2007, the current owner and operator of the Manoa Valley Inn put it up for sale at $4.2 million for the half-acre lot and 4,424-square-foot (411.0 m2) house. She decided to sell it after the external chimney was badly damaged in the earthquake of 15 October 2006. The rest of the house was undamaged.
