Coleraine High School

Coleraine ( kohl-RAYN; from Irish: Cúil Rathain [ˌkuːlʲ ˈɾˠahɪnʲ], 'nook of the ferns') is a town and civil parish near the mouth of the River Bann in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is 55 miles (89 km) northwest of Belfast and 30 miles (48 km) east of Derry, both of which are linked by major roads and railway connections. It is part of Causeway Coast and Glens district.

The Showgrounds is a football stadium in Coleraine, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is the home ground of Coleraine F.C. The stadium holds approximately 3,500 with the stadium consisting of a mix of terracing and seating. Between September 1971 and October 1972, Derry City F.C. were forced to use the stadium as their home-ground after the Irish Football Association banned the use of their ground in Derry, the Brandywell, due to security fears emanating from the Trouble and civil unrest in the nearby Bogside area. Derry's use ended in 1972 when, faced with dwindling crowds, travelling to Coleraine to play home-games was no longer financially sustainable.

Coleraine railway station serves the town of Coleraine in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It shares facilities with the town's Ulsterbus bus depot.

The 1973 Coleraine bombings took place on 12 June 1973 when the Provisional IRA detonated two car bombs in Coleraine, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The first bomb exploded at 3:00 pm on Railway Road, killing six people and injuring 33; several lost limbs. A second bomb that exploded five minutes later at Hanover Place added to the panic and confusion in the area. It did not cause any injuries. The IRA had sent a warning for the second bomb and said it had mistakenly given the wrong location for the first. As the six victims had all been Protestant, the bombings brought about a violent backlash from loyalist paramilitaries, who swiftly retaliated by unleashing a series of sectarian killings of Catholics that culminated in the double killing of Senator Paddy Wilson and Irene Andrews on 26 June. Sinn Féin councillor Sean McGlinchey, brother of Dominic McGlinchey, later INLA Chief of Staff, was convicted of planting the bomb and spent 18 years in prison. He was elected mayor of Limavady Borough Council in 2011. In his book Years of Darkness: The Troubles Remembered, academic Gordon Gillespie described the attacks as "a forgotten massacre" of the Troubles.

St Joseph's College, Coleraine was a Roman Catholic secondary school located in Coleraine, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Named after Saint Joseph, there was a statue of Saint Joseph when entering the building. The school opened in 1961 and was closed in 2019 after 58 years. St. Joseph's merged with Loreto College, Coleraine. Pupils from year 10 transferred to either Loreto College or Dominican college, Portstewart two years before the closure. Pupils from years 9, and 12 stayed in the St Joseph's Building until its closure in 2019. The final Principal of the school was Mrs. Mary Miller.

Coleraine was a constituency represented in the Irish House of Commons from 1611 to 1800. Between 1725 and 1793 Catholics and those married to Catholics could not vote.

Coleraine Borough Council was a local council mainly in County Londonderry and partly in County Antrim in Northern Ireland. It merged with Ballymoney Borough Council, Limavady Borough Council and Moyle District Council in May 2015 under local government reorganisation in Northern Ireland to become Causeway Coast and Glens District Council Its headquarters were in the town of Coleraine. Small towns in the area include Garvagh, Portrush, Portstewart and Kilrea. Coleraine Borough Council consisted of four electoral areas: Coleraine East, Coleraine Central, The Skerries and Bann. The council last had 22 members from the following political parties: 8 Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), 6 Ulster Unionist Party (UUP), 3 Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP), 2 Alliance Party 1 Sinn Féin and 2 Independent. Unionist-controlled Coleraine Borough Council operated a rotation for positions of Mayor and Deputy Mayor between the UUP, DUP and the Irish nationalist SDLP. The last election was due to take place in May 2009, but on 25 April 2008, Shaun Woodward, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland announced that the scheduled 2009 district council elections were to be postponed until the introduction of the eleven new councils in 2011. The proposed reforms were abandoned in 2010, and the most recent district council elections took place in 2011The borough council area, together with the neighbouring district of Limavady and part of Derry City Council, formed the East Londonderry constituency for elections to the Westminster Parliament and Northern Ireland Assembly.

County Coleraine, called the County of Colerain in the earliest documents, was one of the counties of Ireland from 1585 to 1613. It was named after its intended county town, Coleraine.

The Causeway Institute of Further and Higher Education (informally Causeway Institute or CIFHE) was a third-level educational institution in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. The Causeway Institute was located on two campuses: Coleraine, County Londonderry and Ballymoney, County Antrim.

St. Patrick's Church is a Church of Ireland parish church within the Diocese of Connor. Located in the town of Coleraine in Northern Ireland, it is protected as a Grade B+ listed building.

Lodge Road is a cricket ground in Coleraine, Northern Ireland and the home of Coleraine Cricket Club. In 1987, it hosted a first-class match between Ireland and Scotland, a match which ended in a draw.In 2011, it was one of the venues for the 2011 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
