Otisco Lake

Spafford is a town in Onondaga County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 1,588. The town was named after Horatio Gates Spafford, a writer and founder of the local library. Spafford is in the southwestern corner of Onondaga County and is southwest of Syracuse.

Ten Mile Point (Tenmile Point) is a scenic area on the shore of Skaneateles Lake, New York, a popular picnic spot for lake outings in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is located at the mouth of a ravine on alluvium. Onondaga County Road 72 runs through it and is locally known as "10 Mile Point Road". It was formerly the property of the Skaneateles Railroad and Steamboat Company (Skaneateles Park Company) who built a steamboat dock, a dancing pavilion and planted a grove of trees there. Their planned hotel was never built. And in 1906 Ten Mile Point was purchased by the Auburn and Syracuse Electric Railroad Company from the Skaneateles Park Company. It is now the location of Lourdes Camp, an historic facility of the local Roman Catholic diocese. In 1990 the "Six Town Picnic'" that had been held annually from 1885 until World War II was revived at Ten Mile Point.

Borodino District School #8, known previously as Borodino District School #11, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. The one-room schoolhouse was probably built between 1853, when the property was sold to the school trustees, and 1859 when it first appears on a map of Borodino. It is a clapboard building in the Italianate style topped by a square cupola with a gabled roof. The interior is a single room with a twelve-foot ceiling. The walls and ceiling are beaded board. Two chalkboards are still in evidence. The school closed in 1956, probably due to the lack of running water and proper toilet facilities required by law after that time. The building operates as a seasonal store called the Borodino Market.

Borodino is a hamlet located at the intersection of New York State Route 41 (East Lake Road, running approximately east–west) and New York State Route 174 (Rose Hill Road, running north–south) in the Town of Spafford in Onondaga County, New York, United States, near Skaneateles Lake. The hamlet proper extends five to ten properties to the east, south, west and north from the intersection, until houses and a few other buildings are replaced by farm fields. A monument for veterans, designed by Gianfranco Fritelli, stands in a cemetery at the southeast corner of the intersection. A little-altered Federal style Methodist Church, known locally as "The Church", dating from 1830, stands close to the 174, about five properties north. The Borodino District School No. 8 (c. 1853–59) and Borodino Hall (1835) are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. About four properties to the south is a turnoff to a public boat landing and ramp into Skaneateles Lake; a few more properties to the south is Borodino's fire station, site of several fundraising pancake breakfasts each year which are among the biggest community events in the hamlet. Another is the Town of Spafford's annual Fourth of July parade, running from the fire station to the cemetery at the intersection. The public boat landing and the Spafford Town Hall are often said to be in Borodino, although the boat landing is about 0.75 miles (1.21 km) to the southwest and the town hall is 0.5 miles (0.80 km) to the north along the 174, and separated by farm fields, from the intersection. The town hall is closer to the intersection of Rose Hill Road with Howe Road.

Borodino Community Center(BCC), also previously known as the Borodino Hall or Grange Hall, is a building in the hamlet of Borodino, New York. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. Borodino Community Center was built in 1835 by the First Religious Society of Borodino, and served as a church until 1868. It is a two-story building with a gabled roof on a high stone basement. It is of heavy timber-frame construction designed in the Federal style. The building was sold in 1868, and a stage was added to the interior around that time, converting it into a hall. In 1871, a performance of "Uncle Tom’s Cabin" was presented there by the Borodino Dramatic Society. At some time after this, the building became the Spafford Town Hall, a purpose it served until 1912. In that year the Grange chapter #1272 began meeting in the Hall, and they purchased it in 1919. Water service, a kitchen and restrooms were added in the early 1950s. The Spafford Area Historical Society (SAHS) purchased the building in 1997. SAHS has been renovating the Borodino Community Center since 2013. SAHS has performed structural work, repaired the foundation and installed a new concrete floor in the lower level. They also upgraded the bathrooms, installed a new metal roof, windows, insulation, siding and a water purification system. In the fall of 2024, new interior lighting was installed along with an oak plank floor in the upper level and a kitchenette in the lower level. It currently serves as a community center and is available to the community to rent for baby/wedding showers, small weddings or family reunions or other events.

Otisco is a town in Onondaga County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 2,368. Otisco is in the southwestern part of the county, situated at the northern edge of the Appalachian Highlands, where an escarpment declines to the Lake Ontario plain and the city of Syracuse five miles to the north.

Skaneateles Lake ( SKAN-ee-AT-ləs, locally SKIN-) is a Finger Lake in central New York state, United States. The name Skaneateles means "long lake" in the Onondaga language. The lake spans three counties, and is sometimes referred to as "The Roof Garden of the Lakes" because its elevation (863.27 ft or 263.12 m) is higher than the other Finger Lakes. It is one of the cleanest lakes in the United States. It is 16 mi (26 km) long (17 mi or 27 km long including the bogs at the south end of the lake) and on average 0.75 mi (1.21 km) wide, with a surface area of 13.6 sq mi (35 km2), and a maximum depth of 315 ft (96 m). The lake drains north via Skaneateles Creek, which flows into the Seneca River. The cleanest of the Finger Lakes, its water is so pure that the city of Syracuse and other municipalities use it unfiltered. The City of Syracuse spends about $2.3 million a year to protect lake quality; sixteen people inspect (usually twice a year) each of the 2600 properties in the watershed, which is relatively small compared to other Finger Lakes. The lake is the second cleanest lake in the United States as measured by dissolved nitrogen, after Crater Lake in Oregon. William Henry Seward called it "The most beautiful body of water in the world."

The New Hope Mills Complex is a historic grist mill complex located on Glen Haven Road near the intersection with Route 41A in the hamlet of New Hope in the town of Niles in Cayuga County, New York. The complex includes the mill building, two vernacular dwellings, a 1910s gambrel roofed storage barn, a 1935 saw mill, two concrete faced dams, and a 1-acre (4,000 m2) mill pond.

Marcellus is a town in Onondaga County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 6,066. The town was probably named after Marcus Claudius Marcellus, a Roman general, by a clerk interested in the Classics. The Marcellus Formation is a vast geological layer of shale spanning Pennsylvania, West Virginia and parts of other states and Ontario, which is named for an outcropping in or near Marcellus.The Town of Marcellus contains a village also named Marcellus. The town and village are southwest of Syracuse.
