Fiddown Island

Fiddown (Irish: Fiodh Dúin, meaning 'wood of the fort') is a small village in Kilkenny, Ireland. It is located in the south of the county just off the N24 road, 37 km south of Kilkenny city. The village is on the banks of the River Suir, near the border with County Waterford to which the village is connected via the Fiddown Bridge. Carrick-on-Suir is 7 km to the west, and Waterford city is 16 km to the east. Fiddown was the site of a 6th-century monastery, associated with the monk Maidoc or Momodoc, which was located near the river crossing.Fiddown Island nearby is a nature reserve in the River Suir.

Portlaw GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Portlaw, County Waterford, Ireland. The club enters teams in both codes. Portlaw have been quite successful in hurling having won the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship on 6 occasions. They currently play both intermediate hurling and football in Waterford.

Riverquarter is a small hamlet in the south of Kilkenny in Southeast Ireland. Within the townland of Clonmore, it is part of the Catholic parish and electoral district of Mooncoin. The area overlooks the River Suir, and the river can be reached from a minor access road.

Portlaw (Irish: Port Cládach or Port Lách) is a town in County Waterford, Ireland. It is also a parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Waterford and Lismore. It is situated approximately 14 km west-north-west of Waterford City, where the Clodiagh meets the Suir.

Iverk (Irish: Uíbh Eirc) is a barony in the south-west of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The size of the barony is 167.3 square kilometres (64.6 sq mi). There are 15 civil parishes in Iverk. The chief town today is Piltown. The N24 crosses the barony. Iverk lies at the south-west of the county, with the baronies of Kells and Knocktopher to the north (whose chief towns are Kells and Knocktopher), and the baronies of Ida and Kilculliheen to the east. County Waterford is located to the south of the boundary. The barony was part of the historic kingdom of Osraige (Ossory). Today it is part of the Roman Catholic Church diocese of Ossory and the Church of Ireland diocese of Cashel and Ossory. Iverk is currently administered by Kilkenny County Council.

Mooncoin (Irish: Móin Choinn, meaning 'Coyne's Bogland') is an urban area in County Kilkenny, in Ireland. The population was 1,175 in 2016. Historically part of the Gaelic kingdom of Osraige, today it is in the far south of the county of Kilkenny, located in the valley of the River Suir. It is surrounded by the uplands of the Slievenamon and Comeragh Mountains, just 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) north of Waterford City along the N24 national primary road (Waterford to Limerick), and it is 48 kilometres (30 mi) south of Kilkenny.The town's name derives from an anglicized version of the Irish "Móin Choinn" which means "Coyne's Bogland". The song "The Rose of Mooncoin" by poet Watt Murphy has been adopted as the Kilkenny GAA anthem. The town has continually received high scores in the Tidy Towns competition.

Killinaspick (Irish: Coill an Easpaig, meaning 'bishop's wood') is a small village in the south of County Kilkenny, Ireland. Its name is also sometimes spelt Killinaspic, Killnaspic or Kilnaspic. Killinaspick is situated in the north of Mooncoin parish. It borders the parishes of Mullinavat, Piltown and Kilmacow. Killinaspick Catholic church is situated on the slope of the Walsh hills overlooking the parish. It was built in the mid-19th century. A tablet in the gable end of the current building, which stands south of the ancient site, states that it was built in 1866. Killinaspick church replaced the old church and graveyard in the adjoining hamlet called Tubrid. The church is one of three in the parish of Mooncoin, the other two being at Mooncoin itself and Carigeen. The main focus of the village is the crossroads, from which Tubrid Road leads to the village church and graveyard by a bridge over a stream. A missionary stone and Millennium plaque is located near the bridge. The village used to have a local shop, run by the Aylward family, but this closed in the early 1980s.

Ballyduff Lower GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ballyduff Lower, County Waterford, Ireland. The club enters teams in both the Waterford Intermediate Hurling Championship and the Waterford Intermediate Football Championship.

Carrigeen GAA an Irish Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in Carrigeen in the very far south of County Kilkenny, Ireland. They are Mooncoin GAA's reserve team. The club was established in 1954 and its home grounds are at Asper Park, which were officially opened in 1991 by Paddy Buggy of Slieverue, former President of the GAA. Carrigeen play in black and amber stripes. As of 2008, the club was reportedly spending €500,000 developing its grounds, with the National Lottery putting up €200,000, Kilkenny County Council €100,000, and the club raising the remaining €200,000. Carrigeen may be one of Kilkenny's smallest clubs but the opening of these fine grounds shows the dedication and spirit that exists in the local community. Many great games of hurling have already been played on these grounds over the past few years and we look forward to many more exciting clashes in the years ahead.

Carrigeen (Irish: Carraigín, meaning 'little rock') is a village to the south-east of Mooncoin in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Carrigeen is situated on a hillock within the Suir Valley, contains St. Kevin's Church and belongs to the parish of Mooncoin. There is a primary school and a GAA club in Carrigeen. St. Kevin's Church is one of the three churches of the parish of Mooncoin, together with a church in Killinaspick and Mooncoin.

Kilmeadan or Kilmeaden (Irish: Cill Mhíodáin) is a village in County Waterford, Ireland. It is on the R680 regional road. The town is 36 km (22 mi) from Dungarvan and 8 km (5.0 mi) from Waterford. Kilmeadan Castle was a stronghold of the le Poer family in the fourteenth century. In the late thirteenth century, it was in the possession of Sir Walter de la Haye, a leading figure in the Irish Government from about 1270 to 1308. The castle was destroyed by Cromwellian forces c.1650. The lands of Kilmeadan were granted to the Ottrington family, and later passed by inheritance to the family of Viscount Doneraile.

Corluddy Castle is located in County Kilkenny close to the village of Carrigeen. According to O'Kelly it is "5-storey high is roofless but in a good state of preservation, the bottom arch showing traces of osier-rod work. It is on an open hillside east of the village and belonged to the Grants until confiscated during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland. Peter Grant chief of the family died 1510 and is buried in St. Canice's Cathedral."
