Ogden station (Calgary)

The Calgary Metropolitan Region (CMR), also commonly referred to as the Calgary Region, is a conglomeration of municipalities centred on Calgary, the largest city in Alberta. With the Government of Alberta's establishment of the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB) in 2017, the CMR's boundaries were legislated to include the City of Calgary, Foothills County to the south, Rocky View County to the west, north, and east, and a western portion of Wheatland County further to the east. Also within these boundaries are the cities of Airdrie and Chestermere, seven towns: Cochrane, Crossfield, Diamond Valley, High River, Irricana, Okotoks, and Strathmore, two villages: Beiseker and Longview, and two First Nations communities: Tsuu T'ina 145 and Eden Valley 216. Not all of these, however, are administrative members of the CMRB. The Calgary census metropolitan area (CMA) as delineated by Statistics Canada is smaller than the CMR. The Calgary CMA includes Calgary, Rocky View County, Airdrie, Beiseker, Chestermere, Cochrane, Crossfield, Irricana, and Tsuu T'ina 145. The Calgary Metropolitan Region is a major transportation hub for southern Alberta, Saskatchewan, eastern British Columbia, and parts of the northern United States. It is home to the Calgary International Airport, the fourth busiest airport in Canada in terms of total aircraft movements.

South Hill is a planned and approved CTrain light rail station in Calgary, Alberta, Canada part of the Green Line. Construction will begin in 2022 and complete in 2027 as part of construction stage one, segment one. The station is located in the north-western corner of Shepard Industrial, directly nearby Glenmore Trail and the suburban residential community of Riverbend. South Hill station will feature a transit plaza, and will become the centrepiece of new mixed-use transit oriented development village. Much of the South Hill area is city-owned, which provides a unique opportunity for development on almost 20 acres of largely vacant land, though a factory and several mobile homes are currently set up in the area. Additionally, the station will be a major transit hub with connections to neighbouring residential and commercial communities. Utility relocation, land preparation and environmental redemption work have been underway since 2017.

Ogden is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It includes the districts of Lynnwood and Millican Estates. It is bounded by Glenmore Trail to the south, Deerfoot Trail and the Bow River to the west, and the CPR tracks and the industrial areas of Ogden Shops to the north and east. Ogden was established in 1912. It is named after I.G. Ogden, former VP of the Canadian Pacific Railway, while the district of Millican takes its name from the Millican family, homesteaders of the early 1900s. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 9 councillor. The postal code in this area is T2C.

Lynnwood/Millican is a planned and approved CTrain light rail station in Calgary, Alberta, Canada part of the Green Line. Construction will begin in 2022 and complete in 2027 as part of construction stage one, segment one. The station is located in the districts of Lynnwood and Millican Estates in the community of Ogden, at the junction of Ogden Road SE and Millican Road SE, adjacent to the Pop Davies Athletic Park. The station is one of only three stations in stage-one to feature a park and ride and is the first CTrain station ever to be constructed southeast of Deerfoot Trail. The parking lot will be on the site of the former Imperial Oil Refinery. The station will connect low density residential to the west of the station, and an industrial area to the east. The CP Rail Headquarters are within walking distance of the station.

Shepard Industrial is a neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. Although predominantly industrial, it contains a pocket of residential area in the northwest corner, including a mobile home park. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by Ward 9 and 12 councillors.

Riverbend is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded to the north by Glenmore Trail, to the east by 24 Street E and to the west by Deerfoot Trail. It is developed in the Bow River floodplain, on its escarpment and the upland plain. Riverbend was established as a neighbourhood in 1982. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 9 councillor.

Calgary-Millican was a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting from 1971 to 1993.

Quarry Park is a planned and approved CTrain light rail station in Calgary, Alberta, Canada part of the Green Line. Construction will begin in 2022 and complete in 2027 as part of construction stage one, segment one. The station is located in the largely commercial community of Quarry Park and will also serve the suburban communities of Douglas Glen and Riverbend. The station will connect one of the largest employment centres along the line, and is host to a number of large corporations and head offices for companies such as Imperial Oil. It will have waiting and station facilities and improved pedestrian and cycling connections. There is also a proposed pedestrian crossing from the station across 24 Street SE leading to the new recreation centre and library.

Dover is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by 26 Avenue SE to the north, Peigan Trail to the south, 24 Street SE and Deerfoot Trail to the west and 36 Street SE to the east. The Inglewood golf course, developed in the Bow River valley, borders the community to the west. The area was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1961, and Dover was established in 1971. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 9 councillor. The postal code in this area is T2B.

Quarry Park is a mixed-use community in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. For 50 years it was a gravel extraction site in the southeast quadrant of the city, surrounded by residential communities but used solely for industrial gravel production. In 2005, the land was purchased by a local development corporation and evolved into the community that it is today. With over 400 acres of community land, Quarry Park is now home to a market, a variety of residential developments, riverside green space and corporate office buildings including Imperial Oil and Remington Development Corporation.Throughout Calgary, nearly 800 kilometers of pathways connect citizens to the natural landscape of the city. Over 10 kilometres of paved paths run throughout the community of Quarry Park allowing residents to cycle, run, walk, rollerblade and simply enjoy the abundant green space found throughout the community. Punctuating the development's focus on natural spaces is a 50-acre environmental reserve connected to the community and Calgary's renowned pathway system. Due to its location in southeast Calgary, Quarry Park contributes to the increasing number of reverse commuters traveling from the downtown core to suburban locales for daily work. While the majority of traffic flows into downtown on any given morning, the abundance of major corporations in Quarry Park bring commuters to a different area of the city, decreasing congestion along the standard traffic routes. Reverse commuters often face fewer traffic problems than standard commuters, and encounter less congestion on public transportation.Built on the banks of the Bow River, Quarry Park has been designed based on many flood mitigation strategies to ensure the community does not face devastation at the hands of flooding. The Bow River flooded in the spring of 2013, causing major damage to many areas in Calgary and its surrounding communities. Quarry Park, despite being located in an evacuation zone, remained completely dry.The engineers of Quarry Park studied polders extensively, which are low-lying areas near water and often found in the Netherlands and other seaside countries. Based on the engineering of polders, Quarry Park was built with an insulated, reinforced riprap berm designed to withstand a one-in-100 year flood event. Other precautions were also taken including a stormwater lift station to discharge rainwater into the Bow River, and overland canals to divert and filter water.Since inception, Quarry Park has been making an environmental impact and statement with many important accomplishments. An example of this is the use of recycled materials in Quarry Park construction such as demolished and crushed asphalt, or concrete and aggregate from roads, parking lots and buildings. Quarry Park West, an office building home to TD Canada Trust Commercial Banking, is a LEED Gold Certified building and boasts a green roof. All Quarry Park buildings currently under construction are being constructed to LEED standards. Quarry Park employs an innovative process for stormwater management including a linear pond and creek system that transports and cleans water before it flows back into the Bow River.

Douglas Glen is a planned and approved CTrain light rail station in Calgary, Alberta, Canada part of the Green Line. Construction will begin in 2022 and complete in 2027 as part of construction stage one, segment one. The station is located in the suburban residential and commercial community of Douglasdale/Douglasglen. The station will be located along 114 Avenue SE between 29 Street SE and 27 Street SE. The site of the station is currently used as a transit hub for buses and will be rebuilt to accommodate rail. The station is one of only three stations in stage one to feature a park and ride.
