The Egg Islands are a small group of low-lying estuarine islands in the tidal lower reaches of the Huon River of south-east Tasmania, Australia. They face the town of Franklin which lies on the western bank of the river.

Franklin is a small township on the western side of the Huon River in the south-east of Tasmania, between Huonville and Geeveston. At the 2021 census, Franklin had a population of 444. It was named after Sir John Franklin and his wife Lady Jane Franklin who subdivided a large property there formerly owned by John Price to settle families of modest means. The Franklins had a ketch named Huon Pine built at Port Davey to provide a direct link between the settlement at Hobart. Huon Post Office opened on 31 August 1848, was renamed Franklin-Huon in 1853 and Franklin in 1878. Originally used for mixed cropping, especially potatoes and other vegetables, by the late 19th century Franklin and its immediate surrounds were a major apple orcharding region. With the collapse of Tasmania's export fruit industry during the 1970s the region reverted to mixed farming. Until the 1930s Franklin was the major town in the Huon Valley. It was thriving with the shipping that docked at its many jetties. Franklin boasted its own Court House (now a gourmet café), several hotels, banks and a Town Hall (now the restored Palais Theatre). It even had its own hydroelectric power station, driven by a local creek. With the establishment of a better road across the Sleeping Beauty Range mountains and the growth of the nearby town Huonville, Franklin went into decline over the next few decades. However, it has recently had a resurgence as a popular tourist town and has had an influx of interstate "seachangers" (urban dwellers from large Australian cities such as Sydney looking for a slower pace and place to raise their children) who have revitalised the town. Much of old Franklin remains.

Cradoc is a rural residential locality in the local government area of Huon Valley in the South-east region of Tasmania. It is located about 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) south-west of the town of Huonville. The 2016 census has a population of 445 for the state suburb of Cradoc.

Upper Woodstock is a rural locality in the local government area (LGA) of Huon Valley in the South-east LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) south of the town of Huonville. The 2016 census recorded a population of 71 for the state suburb of Upper Woodstock.

Huonville is a town on the Huon River, in the south-east of Tasmania, Australia. It is the seat of the Huon Valley Council area and lies 38 km south of Hobart on the Huon Highway. At the 2016 census, Huonville had a population of 2,714 and at the 2011 census had a population of 1,741.

Huonville High School is a government co-educational comprehensive secondary school located in Huonville, a town to the south of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Established in 1940, the school caters for approximately 400 students from Years 7 to 12. The Tasmanian Department of Education administers the school.In 2015, Huonville High School partnered with Dover District High School to offer year 11 courses, making them one of the first Government high schools to go to year 11. Students undertake courses at the Advanced Learning Centre or the Huon Valley Trade Training Centre.

Ranelagh is a township in the Huon Valley of Tasmania, Australia. It is a satellite town of Huonville, to which it is adjacent, and is a former agricultural area and now a tourist town and residence for workers who commute to other areas for work. At the 2011 census, Ranelagh had 1,027 people.It is best known for the Ranelagh Showgrounds which host the annual Huon Show and Taste of the Huon events which are major tourism attractions for the Huon Valley.

Glaziers Bay is a rural locality in the local government area (LGA) of Huon Valley in the South-east LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) south of the town of Huonville. The 2016 census recorded a population of 93 for the state suburb of Glaziers Bay.

Cygnet () SIG-nət is a town in the Huon Valley, south of Huonville, Tasmania.

The Cygnet Folk Festival, run since 1982, is a three-day folk music festival held in Cygnet in Tasmania, Australia, that occurs annually on the second weekend in January.

Lower Wattle Grove is a rural locality in the local government area of Huon Valley in the South-east region of Tasmania. It is located about 19 kilometres (12 mi) south-west of the town of Huonville. The 2016 census has a population of 89 for the state suburb of Lower Wattle Grove.

Pelverata is a rural locality in the local government areas (LGA) of Huon Valley and Kingborough in the South-east and Hobart LGA regions of Tasmania. The locality is about 22 kilometres (14 mi) south-west of the town of Kingston. The 2016 census recorded a population of 206 for the state suburb of Pelverata. It is a town in Tasmania, Australia, to the east of Huonville. It is mainly in the Huon Valley Council area, with about 4% in the Kingborough Council LGA.
