Tesoma

Tesomajärvi (sometimes speaking only Tesoma) is a district in the southwestern part of Tampere, Finland, belonging part of Tesoma's planning area. 1,280 people lived on Tesomajärvi in 2015. Although the population of Tampere is growing, the population of Tesomajärvi has clearly decreased from about 1,500 in 1996. The districts surrounding Tesomajärvi from the south clockwise are Rahola and Ristimäki, Kalkku, Ikuri, Haukiluoma, Lamminpää, Tohloppi and again Ristimäki. Tesomajärvi is one of Tampere's regional centers. In addition to Ristimäki, most of the commercial and public services in the Tesoma area (such as the Westeri shopping centre) are located in the district. In addition, the district includes the Tesoma's indoor swimming pool and ice rink.Lake Tesoma, about 300 meters in diameter and six hectares in area, has a city beach on both sides; naturally the shores of the lake are natural. The deepest point of the lake is six meters. Myllyoja is the descent of a spring-based lake on the northeastern shore of the lake, the ditch runs through the districts of Myllypuro and Ikuri to Nokia's Lake Vihnus, its eastern end. Tesomajärvi is a suburb whose housing stock consists mainly of apartment buildings built in the 1960s. The mushroom-shaped Tesoma's water tower, completed in 1970, is located on a hill above the primary school, which is Tampere's fourth highest place. The volume of the water tower is 5,000 m³. Like Hervanta, Tesomajärvi was previously known as a restless problem suburb, which is why in the 1980s Tesoma became its own block police unit. Tesoma's services have been purposefully developed. The services of Tesoma have been gentrified and the original inhabitants obsolete. In this way, the district has calmed down considerably.

Tesoma railway station (abbreviated Tso) is a railway station in the Tesoma district in Tampere, Finland. The station opened on August 16 2021, with one track at first. The station is located on the Tampere–Pori railway between the track kilometres 196+080 and 196+370. It serves the Tampere commuter rail line M and long-distance traffic between Tampere and Pori. The trip from Tesoma to the Tampere railway station takes about 9 minutes. The location of the station is to the south of the Tesomajärvi shopping centre on the border of the districts of Ristimäki and Rahola.

Westeri is a shopping center completed in the spring of 2018 in the Tesomajärvi district of Tampere, Finland. The anchor tenant is the grocery store K-Supermarket, in connection with which Posti and Matkahuolto points serve. Other stores in the shopping center include Alko, Kotipizza, Linkosuo Café, Pizza Hut, Subway, Tesoma Pharmacy, Instrumentarium, Tokmanni, 24 Pesula laundry and sushi restaurant Asahi Sushi. Westeri's premises also house the Tampere City Welfare Center, which includes the Tesoma Library, the Tesoma Youth Center, a dental clinic, health center, and Fimlab laboratory.

Tohloppi is a district of Tampere, Finland. It is located in western part of Tampere, about seven kilometers from the city center near the Tesomajärvi district. The other neighboring parts of the district also are Ikuri, Lamminpää, Epilänharju and Ristimäki. There is also a lake by the same name (which is part of the Lake Pyhäjärvi basin) in the district with one island called the Tohloppi Island (Tohlopinsaari).Yleisradio's office on the shores of Lake Tohloppi, which produces a large proportion of Yle TV2's broadcasts, is often said to be located in Tohloppi. However, the office is located in the Ristimäki district, although on the shores of Lake Tohloppi. In 2016, the Tesoma's sports hall was completed in the district, which is used by, among others, the basketball club Raholan Pyrkivä. Tohloppi also has a nature trail for hikers and joggers.

Ristimäki is a neighbourhood in the city of Tampere, Finland, It is bordered on the north by Tohloppi, on the east by Epilänharju, on the west by Tesomajärvi and on the south by the Tampere-Pori railway. Mediapolis, YLE's office, and Tesoma School are located in the district.

Rahola is a district in Tampere, Finland. The area is located on northern shore of Pyhäjärvi lake, south of the Tampere–Pori railway. The area has been inhabited since medieval times. The climate on area sloping south to lakeside is favourable for agriculture, and there have been several manor houses. The area has been also an important transport hub, as the roads to Ylöjärvi and Nokia meet there. Railway to Pori was built 1895, and the motorway in 1964. The area become part of Tampere in 1937.After the Second World War, allotment gardens were opened to former pastures of Rahola manor for inhabitants to grow vegetables. The use of these allotments soon developed to more recreational use, and flowers, strawberries and tomatoes replaced the root vegetables.Rahola school covers classes from 0 to 9, and it has in total 690 pupils. Rahola had its own shop from 1962 to 2017. During the busiest years, there were four shops, three banks, post office and pharmacy.

Ylöjärvi (Finnish: [ˈyløˌjærʋi]) is a town and a municipality in the Pirkanmaa region, 14 kilometres (9 mi) northwest of Tampere and 189 kilometres (117 mi) north of the capital city Helsinki in Finland. The town has a population of 33,680 (31 December 2023) and covers an area of 1,324.14 square kilometres (511.25 sq mi) of which 208.62 km2 (80.55 sq mi) is water. The population density is 30.19 inhabitants per square kilometre (78.2/sq mi). Ylöjärvi is mostly a rural town. It does not have a clear center; the Tampere–Vaasa highway (E12) and the Tampere–Seinäjoki railway divide the municipality's town center into two major distinct parts: the church village and Soppeenmäki. The railway, completed in 1971, has no passenger seats in the Ylöjärvi area, so buses handle all public transport. The population has increased rapidly in recent years. In 1990 it was slightly over 18,000, while on December 31, 2011, it was 30,942. The neighbouring municipalities are Hämeenkyrö, Ikaalinen, Kihniö, Nokia, Parkano, Ruovesi, Tampere and Virrat. The municipality of Viljakkala was consolidated with Ylöjärvi on January 1, 2007. The municipality of Kuru was consolidated with Ylöjärvi on January 1, 2009. The coat of arms of Ylöjärvi was designed by Gustaf von Numers and it was confirmed in 1954.Results of the 2021 Finnish municipal elections, resulted in the True Finns being the largest group on Ylöjärvi council, in Ylöjärvi.

Epilänharju is a district of Tampere, Finland. The district is bordered on the north by Lamminpää, on the east by Lielahti, on the south by Epilä and on the west by Tohloppi and Ristimäki. The Epilänharju district is home to the former Epilä Spa, which has now been abandoned and left to decay, as well as Abloy Oy's former factory.During the industrial period, Epilän Konepaja Oy, Oy Epilän nahkatehdas Ab, Epilän sementtivalimo Oy, Oy Excelsior Ab, Ab Lukko Oy and Sahanterä Oy operate in the Epilänharju district. The former factory building of the leather factory was renovated into an apartment building in the early 2000s. The name Epilänharju is based on Epilä's house and area. The Epilä House, which belonged to the village of Tohloppi, was already mentioned in the land register of 1540, and was located on the site of the later Winter's paint factory. The name Epilä is possibly based on the Swedish male given name Ebbe. Pirunharju has appeared as the local co-name of Epilänharju. Industry began to emerge in the area at the turn of the 20th century, when the Tampere–Pori railway was completed. Along with other western connection areas, Epilänharju was transferred from the municipality of the northern Pirkkala to the city of Tampere at the beginning of 1937. The first town plan of Epilänharju was approved in 1956.

Naistenmatka is the town and at the same time the administrative center of the municipality of Pirkkala in Pirkanmaa, Finland. Its population was 800 people in 1997, or about 15% of Pirkkala's population.

Pirkkala (Finnish: [ˈpirkːɑlɑ]; Swedish: Birkala) is a municipality of Finland. It is located some 10 kilometres (6 mi) south-west from Tampere in the Pirkanmaa region. The municipality has a population of 20,762 (31 December 2023) and covers an area of 104.04 square kilometres (40.17 sq mi) of which 22.66 km2 (8.75 sq mi) is water. The population density is 255 inhabitants per square kilometre (660/sq mi), which makes it the most densely populated municipality in Finland that does not use the title of town or city. Pirkkala is also currently the fastest-growing municipality in the Pirkanmaa region. The municipality is unilingually Finnish. Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is located in southwest Pirkkala. The most significant main road in Pirkkala is Tampere Ring Road.

Lielahti (Swedish: Lielax) is a suburb in the city of Tampere, Finland, with important industrial and commercial facilities. Lielahti was annexed to the city in 1950 from Ylöjärvi parish. Lielahti lies about 7 kilometres west from the city centre. The most prominent sight when arriving Lielahti is maybe the M-real pulp mill, which can sometimes also be sensed nasally. There is also a railway station in Lielahti, but its use in passenger traffic was discontinued in 1984 due to its lack of passengers. It remains though as a freight station used to transport pulp even today, and its most important function is as a railway junction, since the railway tracks from Pori (Björneborg) and Seinäjoki merge there, continuing as a double-track railway to the main station of Tampere. The National Board of Antiquities has classified the Lielahti station area as a nationally significant protected site. In the future it is quite likely that local public transport in Tampere region will again be provided by commuter trains, in a way or another. Then the trains bound from and to Nokia, and perhaps from and to Ylöjärvi will stop at the Lielahti station.

Epilä is a district in Tampere, Finland. The area is bordered on the north by the Tampere–Pori railway and Lielahti, on the east by Hyhky's Vaakonkatu, on the west by Rahola and on the south by Kaarila.Epilä has been permanently inhabited since the 16th century. Epilä, located in the present Winter area, is mentioned in the 1540 land register as a house belonging to the village of Tohloppi, the parish of Pirkkala, which was owned by Heikki Epi at that time. The name is possibly based on the Swedish male given name Ebbe. In 1759–1836, Epilä was the office of the chaplain of the Harju Chapel Parish. There have been pastures of Kaarila Manor in the area. During the Finnish Civil War, in March-April 1918, fierce battles were fought in Epilä as part of the Battle of Tampere; the Red Guard, led by Aatto Koivunen, defeated the Whites, led by Swedish Colonel Hjalmarson, on several occasions. The fierce offensive battle took place on March 26, 1918.After the completion of the Tampere–Pori railway in 1895, Epilä railway station was opened, and a new residential and industrial area began to develop around it. Thus the house name had become a region name. The Epilä area, along with the other western suburbs of Tampere, was moved from the then North Pirkkala to the city of Tampere at the beginning of 1937. The joint town plan of the Epilä, Kaarila and Hyhky districts was confirmed in 1953. The Epilä railway stop's shutdown was decommissioned in 1979, when it was used for passenger transport until it was opened.For most of the 20th century, Epilä was an industrial area, but today it is mainly a residential area dominated by detached houses. During the industrial era, Epilä operated e.g. Uusi Kivipaino Oy book publisher and Winter's paint factory.
