St Michael Bassishaw, or Basinshaw, was a parish church in Basinghall Street in the City of London, standing on land now occupied by the Barbican Centre complex. Recorded since the 12th century, the church was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666, then rebuilt by the office of Sir Christopher Wren. The rebuilt church was demolished in 1900.

Guildhall is a municipal building in the Moorgate area of the City of London, England. It is off Gresham and Basinghall streets, in the wards of Bassishaw and Cheap. The building has been used as a town hall for several hundred years, and is still the ceremonial and administrative centre of the City of London and its Corporation. It should not be confused with London's City Hall, the administrative centre for Greater London. The term "Guildhall" refers both to the whole building and to its main room, which is a medieval great hall. The nearest London Underground stations are Bank, St Paul's and Moorgate. It is a Grade I-listed building.

The Chartered Insurance Institute (also known as the CII) is a professional body dedicated to building public trust in the insurance and financial planning profession. The CII's purpose, as set out in its 1912 royal charter, is to 'Secure and justify the confidence of the public' in its members and the insurance sector as a whole. It aims to do this by setting standards of integrity, technical competence, and business capability. In February 2016 Sian Fisher joined the Chartered Insurance Institute as CEO, taking over after Sandy Scott's 16-year tenure. In November 2016, she launched a Strategic Manifesto outlining a 5-year plan to ensure the CII remains a valued partner and that the body's purpose and vision are relevant to the challenges facing the profession.

The statue of Margaret Thatcher in the Guildhall, London, is a marble sculpture of Margaret Thatcher. It was commissioned in 1998 from the sculptor Neil Simmons by the Speaker's Advisory Committee on Works of Art; paid for by an anonymous donor, it was intended for a plinth among statues of former Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom in the Members' Lobby of the House of Commons. However as the House did not permit a statue to be erected there during its subject's lifetime, the work had been temporarily housed in Guildhall. It was unveiled there by Lady Thatcher in February 2002.

The visible remains of an amphitheatre constructed during Roman London lie beneath the Guildhall Art Gallery complex in the City of London. Some of these remains are displayed in situ in a room in the basement of the art gallery. Discovered in 1988, the site is now a scheduled monument. London's first Roman amphitheatre was built in AD 70 from wood, but was renovated in the early 2nd century with tiled entrances and rag-stone walls. The amphitheatre was used for various public events such as gladiator games, entertaining soldiers and the public with animal fighting and public execution of criminals, as well as religious activities. After the ancient Romans left in the 4th century, the amphitheatre lay derelict for hundreds of years. In the 11th century the area was reoccupied and by the 12th century the first London Guildhall was built next to it, which survives despite the Great Fire of London and The Blitz.

The Guildhall Art Gallery houses the art collection of the City of London, England. The museum is located in the Moorgate area of the City of London. It is a stone building in a semi-Gothic style intended to be sympathetic to the historic Guildhall, which is adjacent and to which it is connected internally.

Basinghall Street (sometimes written as "Bassinghall") is a street in the City of London, England. It lies chiefly in the ward of Bassishaw (originally the street and the courts and passages leading off from it) with the southern end in Cheap and Coleman Street wards. The street and ward are named after the Bassing family, who built a hall house here in the 13th century and who were given certain privileges by the King. The Guildhall, of a few separate "wings" has entrances around Guildhall Yard abutting, as well as another street, the west of the street; and the allied Mayor's and City of London Court forming "Guildhall Buildings" and its tree-lined walkways. The street was a direct link between Gresham Street, south then is cut off by building, most directly, from the road aspect of London Wall north. The latter is accessed from the street's north-western spur and Aldermanbury Square and footway by Brewers Hall, or longer north-eastern spur which is named Bassinghall Avenue which hosts the verdant Girdlers' Company mansion and then a few metres of Coleman Street. Despite this westward change, the meandering street has kept the same length: of about 270 metres. St Michael Bassishaw was a church on the street demolished in 1900.

The Mayor's and City of London Court is a sitting of the County Court in the City of London. It is located at Guildhall Buildings, Basinghall Street.

The Lord Mayor's Show is one of the best-known annual events in London as well as one of the longest-established, dating back to the 13th century. A new lord mayor is appointed every year, and the public parade that takes place as his or her inauguration ceremony reflects that this was once one of the most prominent offices in England. The show is named after the Lord Mayor of the City of London, a city and ceremonial county within Greater London and the historic centre of the wider metropolis, which is distinct from the Mayor of London, the elected head of the Greater London Authority (a position which has existed only since 2000). The City is London's main financial district, widely known informally as 'the Square Mile'. The Lord Mayor's Show is centred on a street parade, which in its modern form is a light-hearted combination of traditional British pageantry and elements of carnival. On the day after being sworn in, the Lord Mayor and several others participate in a procession from Guildhall, via Mansion House and St Paul's Cathedral, in the heart of the City of London, to the Royal Courts of Justice on the edge of the City of Westminster, where the new Lord Mayor swears allegiance to the Crown. Until 1882, the procession went to Westminster Hall.

Bassishaw is a ward in the City of London. Small, it is bounded by wards: Coleman Street, east; Cheap, south; Cripplegate, north; Aldersgate, west. It first consisted of Basinghall Street with the courts and short side streets off it, but since a boundary review in 2003 (after which the ward expanded into Cripplegate Within) it extends to streets further west, including Aldermanbury, Wood Street, and, to the north, part of London Wall and St Alphage Garden. The ward was historically the City's smallest.

Old Doctor Butler's Head is a pub in Mason's Avenue, London EC2. The pub was named after the physician William Butler, a doctor at the court of James I. Butler is credited with inventing the medicinal drink Dr Butler’s purging ale, which became popular in 17th-century England.The pub is a Grade II listed building, probably dating back to the early 19th century.

Founded in 1994, Z/Yen has developed the London Accord, the Global Financial Centres Index, the Global Intellectual Property Index for Taylor Wessing and Taskforce 2000 (the UK industry response to the Millennium Bug).Z/Yen conducts market research and intelligence. It publishes most of its research freely on its own website. Z/Yen is split into 2 parts; Long Finance for Pro bono work and The Financial Services Club (FSC) which provides networking dinners and events for city professionals. Z/Yen's executive chairman Michael Mainelli, in association with Michael F Smith, has been working with mutual distributed ledgers, or MDLs, since the early 90s. Due to this expertise and recent interest in MDLs, Z/Yen shifted much of its research and resources towards this developing technology and community.
