In December 2008, the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service approved the establishment of the Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge in Monroe County, Pennsylvania after a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was issued by the Northeast Regional Director.

As of the 2010 census, the village's population was 1,257. Located in one of the first settled areas in the township, the village is believed to have been named for the city of Belfast in Northern Ireland. Its settlers, who were predominantly German and Welsh, arrived in the area in the late 18th century. The village was originally known as Belleville or Bellville because of its scenic view. The name Belfast came into use sometime after the Civil War.

It was named for the Ackerman family. In 1788, Henry Miller built a house, grist mill, and saw mill on a 560-acre that included the present-day village. Four years later, Miller sold the properties to John Ackerman, who had relocated to the region with his family from Bucks County. Ackerman had six sons, who built their own houses, and over time, other families settled here. In the early 1800s, the village was known as Ackermans Mill and from 1850 to circa 1870 as Ackermans. It is not known when the present name came into use. The village and surrounding area are drained by Martins Creek, which flows southward into the Delaware River. It is split between two ZIP Codes: Bangor, 18013, and Pen Argyl, 18072. Ackermanville previously had a post office with its own ZIP code, 18010, but the code was retired in 2016.

The Ross Township Municipal Building shooting occurred just after 7:00 p.m. on August 5, 2013, in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, United States, a small town in Monroe County. A gunman went on a shooting rampage at a public meeting of township supervisors in the municipal building, leaving three people dead and three others injured. The gunman, identified as Rockne Newell, was described as having long feuded with township officials.While approaching the building, Newell fired a .223 Ruger Mini-14 rifle into the building 28 times, through windows. Then, he went back to his car to retrieve a 6-shot .44 Magnum Revolver before entering the building and the meeting room. There, he began shooting the handgun at meeting attendees. While the gunman was still shooting, two men struggled with him over the gun. They subdued, disarmed, and held him, preventing further deaths and injuries. Linda Kozic, Frank Pirano, and Howard Beers were injured; while David Fleetwood, Gerard Kozic, and James "Vinny" LaGuardia were fatally wounded. During the struggle over the gun with Bernard Kozen and Mark Krashe, the gunman was wounded in the leg with his own weapon.

Bridge in Bangor Borough is a historic concrete arch bridge spanning Martins Creek at Bangor, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1915, and is a small, single arched bridge spanning 45 feet. It features molded ornamental designs on the spandrel walls and abutments.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
