The International Advanced Manufacturing Park is a British business park located in Washington, City of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. The site is located next to Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK, the UK's second largest car manufacturing site. It is a development hub for manufacturing in the region and is a joint venture between Sunderland City Council and South Tyneside Council. The concept for this development was influenced by the previous success of the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham.The International Advanced Manufacturing Park development is designated as an Enterprise Zone and is split into two phases; phase one is 125 acres (51 ha) acres of land with 1.68 million square feet (156×10^3 m2) of building area attracting more than £150 million of investment; phase two is an additional 245 acres (99 ha) of land. Henry Boot plc is a development partner for the project. The scheme intends to create 7000 jobs and work started in 2018.The park is currently being used as the site of NHS Nightingale Hospital NE, a field hospital catering for COVID-19 patients in the North East.

The North East Land, Sea and Air Museums (NELSAM), formerly the North East Aircraft Museum, is a volunteer-run aviation museum situated on the site of the former RAF Usworth/Sunderland Airport, between Washington and Sunderland, in Tyne and Wear, England. The museum has the largest aviation collection between Yorkshire and Scotland and houses over 30 aircraft and a wide collection of aero engines. The museum also has a small collection of other items such as weaponry, vehicles and other historical exhibits. The museum also has special displays showing a replica of a Second World War British street and one honouring No. 607 Squadron RAF, which was based at RAF Usworth. NELSAM is an English registered charity.

Royal Air Force Usworth or more simply RAF Usworth is a former Royal Air Force station near Sunderland. In 1958 the station was closed and the airfield became Sunderland Airport. Following the closure of the airport in 1984, the site has since been redeveloped as a manufacturing facility for Nissan cars - Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK, and as the location of an aviation museum, the North East Land, Sea and Air Museums (NELSAM).

Boldon railway station served the village of East Boldon, Tyne and Wear, England, from 1844 to 1967 on the Pontop and South Shields Railway.

The A1231 road connects Sunderland and Washington in Tyne and Wear, North East England. It is the main road connecting these towns and is one of the main roads giving access to Sunderland city centre. The total length of the road is approximately 9 miles (14 km).

WWT Washington Wetland Centre is a wetland reserve managed by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Washington, Tyne and Wear, North East England. Established in 1975, its wildlife includes swans, geese, ducks, a family of Asian short clawed otters and a flock of Chilean flamingos. WWT works towards the conservation of wetlands and has a successful breeding program for some of the world's most endangered wildfowl. Included in the site is a nature reserve with hides to watch the wildlife, a saline lagoon and dragonfly ponds in which large species of dragonfly live along with newts, frogs and toads. The park sells bags of seed which can be used to get an up-close and personal encounter with most of their birds whilst feeding them. Species kept at the park include: Andean goose Baer's pochard Black necked swan Black swan Chilean flamingo Common crane Eider Hawaiian goose Mute swan Red-breasted goose Ringed teal Spur-winged goose White-faced whistling duck

Usworth railway station served the village of Usworth, Washington, England from 1864 to 1963 on the Leamside line.

Boldon Community Association F.C. is an association football club that plays in the Northern Football League. The club was founded as Boldon Villa, joining the Wearside Football League as a founder member in 1892. They were later known as Boldon Villa and Boldon Colliery Welfare. In 1976 the club name was renamed Boldon Community Association. The league title was won in 1953, 1955, 1975 and 1997 They were promoted from the Wearside League to the Northern League in 2021. They made their debut in the Northern Football League in 1-1 draw with Horden Community Welfare.Goalkeeper Sam Bartram played for the club before joining Charlton Athletic.

North Hylton is a suburb of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, in northeast England. It is on the north bank of River Wear opposite South Hylton. Hylton Castle is in North Hylton. The settlement developed in the 14th century around the river crossing which was operated by the Lords of Hilton. By the 18th century industries such as shipbuilding contributed to population growth resulting in an 1871 Census return of almost 500.The area is the subject of the painting A Breezy Day, North Hylton by Richard A Ray.

Jarrow Roofing Boldon Community Association Football Club was a football club based in Boldon Colliery, near Sunderland, England. The club was founded by Richie McLoughlin, who played for the club and was manager and chairman, as well as building the club's ground with members of the committee.

Castletown is a suburb of Sunderland in Tyne and Wear, England. A former mining community, the Hylton Colliery was located at the east end of the village; it lies north of the River Wear, and is near to Hylton Castle and Washington. At Hylton Riverside, on the eastern fringe of Castletown, there is a large retail park. There is a large-scale redevelopment project, aimed at modernising the former pit houses and the area around the Aviary Estate. Since 2011 there have been further developments in the east part of the village. The Aviary area has been completely demolished and a new housing estate has replaced both sides of the main street. This site was re-developed by the Gentoo Group. At the opposite end of Castletown is the newer development of Fulford Grange. Currently, the records state that Castletown is the least ethnically diverse area in Sunderland, with 99.3% of the population being white. Despite its proximity to Sunderland, until 1967 this colliery village was under the administrative control of Durham County Council and was part of the Sunderland Rural District Council. This was because it was a fairly isolated community until the extensive council house building of the fifties and sixties at the Red House, Hylton Castle and Town end Farm Estates effectively joining the settlement to the rest of Sunderland's new northern suburbs. The Northern Spire Bridge, joining Castletown to Pallion, opened in August 2018. During the search for the Yorkshire Ripper, the accent of "Wearside Jack", the author of a hoax letter claiming to be from the Ripper, was identified by the forensic linguist Stanley Ellis as that of the Castletown area. The hoaxer was eventually revealed to have come from nearby Pennywell.
