Karapiro

The Karāpiro Power Station is a hydroelectric power station at Karapiro on the Waikato River, in the North Island of New Zealand. The power station lies on Lake Karapiro, a major rowing regatta venue. Karāpiro is 30 kilometres (19 mi) south-east and upstream from the city of Hamilton and approx. 9 kilometres from Cambridge. It is the last of the eight hydroelectric power stations on the Waikato River. Karāpiro is a baseload power station, as it is required to maintain water flow in the lower Waikato River even during low inflows to the catchment and during low electricity demand. Only two turbines are required to keep the river flow at a reasonable level, with the third turbine being available for peak generation and during maintenance on either of the other turbines. Like all of the hydroelectric power stations on the Waikato River, Karāpiro is operated by electricity generator Mercury Energy.

Lake Karapiro (Māori: Karāpiro) is an artificial reservoir lake on the Waikato River at Karapiro, 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) south-east of Cambridge in New Zealand's North Island. The lake was formed in 1947 by the damming of the Waikato River to store water for the 96-megawatt Karapiro power station. The lake is also one of two premier rowing venues in New Zealand (alongside Lake Ruataniwha in Canterbury) and is the base for the country's high-performance rowing programme.

Trelawney Stud is New Zealand’s oldest commercial Thoroughbred horse stud farm. It was established in 1930 by Seton Otway near Cambridge, New Zealand. It has stood a number of top quality stallions including Foxbridge, Kingdom Bay and Carnegie (IRE) and produced many fine race horses including seven Melbourne Cup winners.

French Pass is a small settlement just east of Cambridge in the Waikato Region of New Zealand. The settlement is named after the road pass from Cambridge through to Whitehall. There was a road through the pass by 1887.

Maungakawa is located in the Waipa District, in the present day Te Miro settlement, northeast of the town of Cambridge, New Zealand. It was once the meeting place of the Kauhanganui, the parliament of the Kīngitanga and Waikato Tainui government. During the 1860s it had a population of several hundred. King Tawhiao opened a parliament building in 1891. In 1868 10,000 acres (4,000 ha) was bought, or leased from Māori owners by Daniel Thornton, and, after his death, a large house was put on what was later called Sanatorium Hill.'Te Waikato Sanatorium' for tuberculosis was officially opened in 1903 by Liberal Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, as one of the few the Public Health Department hospitals . Closure came in 1921, during the second Massey Ministry, when Health Minister James Parr said half the beds were empty. He was supported by Cambridge Borough Council; the Mayor saying it was a burden on the state.Maungakawa Scenic Reserve was named after the former Maungakawa estate, though Maungakawa hill is about 10 km (6.2 mi) to the northeast in Te Tāpui Scenic Reserve (there is another Maungakawa hill further north in the Hapuakohe Range). The reserve has a native bush walk and views over the surrounding area. It was formed in 1953. The Gudex stone obelisk was erected on Pukemako hill, when 7 acres were set aside from the reserve to become Gudex Memorial Park in 1968. On a clear day Mt Ruapehu and Mt Taranaki are visible.

Fergusson Bridge (or the Low-level bridge) is a pre-cast, prestressed concrete bridge in Cambridge, New Zealand, spanning the Waikato River. It cost £41,000, was designed by North, Swarbrick, Mills & Westwood and opened in 1964. It was named after Governor-General Sir Bernard Fergusson.The bridge is on the site of the original 1870 bridge and the 1876 Red Bridge.

Victoria Bridge (or the High-level bridge) is a hinged braced arch, bridge in New Zealand, linking Cambridge with Leamington (developed after the bridge opened) and spanning the Waikato River.

Cambridge High School is a state secondary school in the Waikato town of Cambridge. Cambridge High School is a co-educational state secondary school, students from the town and surrounding rural areas attend the school. The school is a large part of the Cambridge community, participating in a wide network of formal and informal relationships with other agencies and groups.

Cambridge (Māori: Kemureti) is a town in the Waipa District of the Waikato region of the North Island of New Zealand. Situated 24 kilometres (15 mi) southeast of Hamilton, on the banks of the Waikato River, Cambridge is known as "The Town of Trees & Champions". The town has a population of 21,800, making it the largest town in the Waipa District, and the third largest urban area in the Waikato (after Hamilton and Taupō). Cambridge was a finalist in the 2017 and 2019 New Zealand's Most Beautiful Large Town awards, run by Keep New Zealand Beautiful. It was awarded the title New Zealand's Most Beautiful Large Town in October 2019.

St Peter's School is a private, co-educational, Anglican secondary school for Years 7–13 in Cambridge, New Zealand. The school is located on 100 acres (0.40 km2) of ground, surround by school-owned farmland alongside the Waikato River. The schools motto, 'Structa Saxo', is Latin and translates to "Built on a Rock". The school has facilities for boarding- and day-students, as well as on-campus accommodation for teachers, tutors and workers.

John Kerkhof Park is a venue for football (soccer) matches in Cambridge, New Zealand. It is the all-year home of Cambridge FC who compete in the Northern League (New Zealand).The ground was also the training base and home ground for WaiBOP United between 2013 and 2015 when they played in New Zealand's highest level domestic competition, the ASB Premiership. In 2016, John Kerkhof Park became the training base and home ground for the WaiBOP team in New Zealand's National Women's League, hosting three NWL games in each of the 2016 and 2017 seasons. In 2019, Cambridge was named as the host club for six NWL games and the training base for the WaiBOP team. In 2020, the ground was again named as the host venue for WaiBOP's ISPS Handa Women's Premiership fixtures.The ground was also used for two National Youth League games and one ISPS Handa Premiership match (between Hamilton Wanderers and Eastern Suburbs) in 2018. In 2019, the ground hosted a national league double header when Hamilton Wanderers played Auckland City in the National Youth League and the ISPS Handa Premiership.The grounds in Vogel Street, Cambridge, are owned by the Waipa District Council which leases them to Cambridge FC on a long-term basis. They consist of a premium pitch used for Northern League (New Zealand) and feature games such as national league fixtures, and 25 pitches used for senior, youth and junior games. For major games, volunteer workers erect a mini-stadium using temporary grandstands and seating, providing a ground capacity for up to about 1,200 spectators, with seating for about 600.

Roto-o-Rangi or Rotoorangi is a rural community in the Waipa District and Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island, located south of Cambridge and north-east of Te Awamutu. Parts of northern Roto-o-Rangi have been undergoing urban development since the construction of the State Highway 1 Cambridge Expressway, as part of the expansion of Cambridge. The rest of Roto-o-Rangi is sparely populated with a small number of homes and businesses, including a furniture shop run out of a converted dairy farm barnhouse.Roto-o-rangi translates to Lake of Heaven, referring to a lake that once covered the area.
