Ballyhale

Ballyhale Shamrocks is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Ballyhale in County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded in 1972 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Ballyhale Shamrocks are the most successful club in the history of the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship with nine titles.

Scoil Aireagail (formerly Ballyhale Vocational School) is a mixed-gender secondary school in Ballyhale, County Kilkenny, Ireland. It is in the patronage of the Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board.When it originally opened in 1959, forty students were enrolled and there were just two classrooms. Students were accepted to study for their Group Certificate Examination.Originally known as Ballyhale Vocational School, the school was opened/reopened, as Scoil Aireagail, in October 1999.As of 2019, the school had 199 students enrolled and it was offering Junior Cycle, Transition Year and Leaving Certificate programmes.

Knocktopher (historically Knocktofer and Knocktover; from Irish Cnoc an Tóchair, Hill of the Causeway) is a village in County Kilkenny, Ireland. It is situated on the R713 road between the villages of Stoneyford to the north, and Ballyhale to the south. It was formerly situated on the N10 national route until being bypassed by the M9 motorway. It is also a civil parish in the eponymous barony of Knocktopher. The village has two pubs, two shops, a petrol station, a three star hotel, a restaurant and a glass gallery. Knocktopher is also one of 12 baronies in the county.

Loughrea Hurling is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland. The club was founded in 1884 by Dillon Mannion and is almost exclusively concerned with the game of hurling. Pat O Connor and Mike Kelly were in charge of the 2006 Galway Senior Hurling Championship were the team reached The All Ireland Club Final were they were defeated by Kilkenny’s Ballyhale Shamrocks ending a great campaign.

Carrickshock is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the south of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1928 when the teams from Hugginstown and Knockmoylan were amalgamated in commemoration of the Battle of Carrickshock, 1831. Carrickshock have had success in the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship, winning the competition seven times. Their record of four county titles in a row between 1940 and 1943 remained unbroken until 2009 when Ballyhale Shamrocks won their 4th title in succession. Several hurlers from the club have gone to play with the Kilkenny senior intercounty team.

The barony of Knocktopher (Irish: Cnoc an Tóchair, meaning ''Hill of the Causeway'') is a barony in the west of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The barony is 46,765 acres (189.25 km2) in size. There are 16 civil parishes made up of 125 townlands. It is one of 12 baronies in the county. The chief town is Mullinavat and it contains the settlements of Stonyford, Ballyhale, Hugginstown, Knocktopher, and Dunnamaggan. The M9 motorway bisects the barony. Knocktopher lies at the west of the county, the barony is bordered by Kells to the west (whose chief town is Kells), by the baronies of Shillelogher and Gowran to the north (whose chief towns are Bennettsbridge and Gowran), and the baronies of Iverk and Ida and to the south (whose chief towns are Slieverue and Piltown). The rivers Black Water, King's River, Little Arrigle, and Arrigle River flow through the barony. The Walsh Mountains make up a large part of the barony. Other historic sites include Norelands House, Saint Molings Well, and Goat's Bridge.Knocktopher was an early medieval cantred within the shire of Kilkenny, and part of the historic kingdom of Osraige (Ossory). Today it is part of the Roman Catholic Church diocese of Ossory and the Church of Ireland diocese of Cashel and Ossory. Knocktopher is currently administered by Kilkenny County Council.

The Carrickshock incident, Carrickshock massacre, or battle of Carrickshock was a confrontation between the Irish Constabulary and local Catholic tenant farmers near Carrickshock, near Hugginstown, County Kilkenny, on 14 December 1831, during the Tithe War in Ireland. Seventeen were killed: fourteen of a party attempting to collect tithes and three of the crowd of locals who confronted them. The incident was unusual among massacres in the Tithe War in that the majority of casualties were supporters rather than opponents of tithes.

Hugginstown (Irish: Baile hUgúin, historically anglicised as 'Ballyhuggin') is a small village and townland in south County Kilkenny, Ireland. The local Gaelic Athletic Association club, Carrickshock GAA, play their home games in the village.

The tomb of Saint Nicholas is a slab effigy in low relief of an early 4th-century ecclesiastic popularly associated with Saint Nicholas of Myra in County Kilkenny, Ireland. While more probably a local priest from Jerpoint Abbey, it lies in the medieval lost town of Newtown Jerpoint, just west of the Cistercian Jerpoint Abbey.It is 2.0 miles (3.2 km) southwest of Thomastown in the grounds of the privately owned Jerpoint Park. St. Nicholas's Church and graveyard are in the town, where the earthly remains of St. Nicholas of Myra are said to be buried. Belmore House stands at the top of the town. The memorial has been moved since 1839, and it has sustained damage from the fall of a tree. A conservation plan was developed by the Heritage Council in 2007. In advance of conservation work in 2013, St. Nicholas' church and the tomb of St. Nicholas were surveyed and modelled in 3D.

It is located 3.2 km south west from Thomastown just off the R448 regional road. In the grounds of the privately owned Jerpoint Park.
