Chalon-sur-Saône

The arrondissement of Chalon-sur-Saône is an arrondissement of France in the Saône-et-Loire department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. It has 141 communes. Its population is 155,905 (2021), and its area is 1,484.5 km2 (573.2 sq mi).

The Hôtel de Ville (French pronunciation: [otɛl də vil], City Hall) is a municipal building in Chalon-sur-Saône, Saône-et-Loire, in eastern France, standing on Place de l'Hôtel de Ville.

Communauté d'agglomération Le Grand Chalon is an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Chalon-sur-Saône. Its population was 113,879 in 2017, of which 45,096 in Chalon-sur-Saône proper.

Chalon Cathedral (French: Cathédrale Saint-Vincent de Chalon-sur-Saône) is a Roman Catholic church located in Chalon-sur-Saône. A former cathedral, it was the seat of the Bishop of Chalon. The diocese was abolished by the Concordat of 1801 and its territory absorbed by the Diocese of Autun. Parts of the building date from the 8th century, but the Neo-Gothic façade is from the 19th. It was declared a national monument of France in 1903.

The former French Catholic diocese of Chalon-sur-Saône (Lat.: dioecesis Cabilonensis) existed until the French Revolution. After the Concordat of 1801, it was suppressed, and its territory went to the diocese of Autun. Its see was Chalon Cathedral.

The Jardin géo-botanique (1.3 hectares) is a municipal botanical garden located at 1, Place Mathias, Chalon-sur-Saône, Saône-et-Loire, Bourgogne, France. It is open daily without charge. The garden was established in 1953 by the Society of Natural History and Mycology of Saône-et-Loire under the active direction of its president, Dr. Gilbert Durand, and has been maintained by the city since 1959. Today, the garden contains about 600 plant taxa set within eight areas of regional scenery, including water, limestone, granite, swamps, pine lands, Provence, aromatic and medicinal plants, and a perennial garden.

Gare de Chalon-sur-Saône is the railway station serving the town Chalon-sur-Saône, Saône-et-Loire department, eastern France. It is situated on the Paris–Marseille railway, at kilometre post 382.150 from Paris Gare de Lyon, and at an altitude of 179 m. The original station in Chalon was built in the centre as a terminus. To avoid trains reversing direction, a bypass containing a new station was planned. In 1893 the old station was closed and all traffic began to serve the modern station.

Le Colisée is an indoor arena in Chalon-sur-Saône, France. It is primarily used for basketball games, and it is the home arena of the French Pro A League club Élan Chalon. The arena seats 5,000 people.

The Thalie (or Talie) is a short river in Saône-et-Loire, France. It rises at Rully and runs along Chalon-sur-Saône. After 30.4 km, at Saint-Rémy it joins the Corne, close to its confluence with the Saône. It has an average discharge of 0.34 m³/s, and its tributaries are the ru Guillot, ruisseau du Bois and ruisseau de Guerlande.
