2020 U.S. Women's Open

Champions Golf Club is a 36-hole private golf club located in Houston, Texas. Established in 1957 by multiple major champions Jack Burke Jr. and Jimmy Demaret, who were both raised in the city, Champions carries a long history for Houston golf. Burke (b.1923) won the Masters and PGA Championship in 1956 and Demaret (1910–1983) was the first to win three Masters (1940, 1947, 1950). The Cypress Creek course was designed by Ralph Plummer and opened for play 64 years ago in 1959. It was the site of the 1967 Ryder Cup, 1969 U.S. Open, five PGA Tour Championships, and the U.S. Amateur in 1993. It also hosted the Houston Champions International on the PGA Tour five times, which is now the Houston Open. In 2018, the Cypress Creek course temporarily closed for a renovation in advance of hosting the 2020 US Women's Open. The renovation was completed by architect Chet Williams, known for his work across Texas including the design of Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, TX. The second course is the Jackrabbit course, which is used in qualifying rounds for the various USGA Championships the club has hosted, while Cypress Creek is the primary tournament venue. In 2020, golfers for the U. S. Women's Open played the first or second round at Jackrabbit with the other rounds at Cypress Creek because of the December tournament date caused by a global pandemic. The Jackrabbit course opened in 1964 and was designed by George Fazio, later renovated by nephew Tom Fazio. The competitive course record at Cypress Creek is held by Chad Campbell, who shot a 10-under-par 61 in the third round en route to winning the Tour Championship in 2003, the last held at Champions.

The 1969 U.S. Open was the 69th U.S. Open, held June 12–15 at the Cypress Creek Course of Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas. Orville Moody won his only PGA Tour title, one stroke ahead of runners-up Deane Beman, Bob Rosburg, and Al Geiberger. A 14-year veteran of the U.S. Army, Moody entered the final round in second place, three shots behind Miller Barber. At age 35, Moody advanced through both local and sectional qualifying in 1969, and as of 2021 is the last champion to do so. It was his only win on the PGA Tour, with only one additional top-10 finish in a major, two months later at the PGA Championship. Battling an ailing knee, defending champion Lee Trevino (of Texas) missed the cut by a stroke; he won the title again in 1971. The Cypress Creek Course hosted the Houston Champions International event on the PGA Tour, today's Houston Open, from 1966 through 1971, and the Ryder Cup in 1967. It later hosted The Tour Championship five times (1990, 1997, 1999, 2001, and 2003) and the U.S. Amateur in 1993.

The 17th Ryder Cup Matches were held October 20–22, 1967 at the Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas. The United States team won the competition by a record score of 231⁄2 to 81⁄2 points. To date, the 15-point victory margin remains the largest at the Ryder Cup.Ben Hogan was named the captain of the U.S. team in May 1967, five months before the matches. He opted for the U.S. team to use the smaller British golf ball; the same weight, its diameter was .06 inches (1.5 mm) smaller at 1.62 inches (4.11 cm).The match had originally been arranged for June 9–11, a date that the British P.G.A. had reluctantly agreed to, as it interfered with the British tournament season. In April 1966, it was agreed that the dates be changed to October 20–22.The course hosted the U.S. Open two years later in 1969.

Champion Forest is a neighborhood in unincorporated northwestern Harris County, Texas, United States, in Greater Houston. It is located near Farm to Market Road 1960 and Texas State Highway 249 next to Willowbrook. Bill Murphy of the Houston Chronicle described the neighborhood as "affluent". Since 1980, the neighborhood has been designated as a bird sanctuary.In 2006, Champion Forest opposed the Raveneaux Country Club's plan to build as many as five hundred townhouses and condominiums on its property and then maintain the rest of its property as a golf course. Robert Eckels, the county judge of Harris County who lived near Champion Forest, opposed the plan. Eckels asked the Harris County right-of-way division to see how much it would cost for the county to force 288 acres (1.17 km2) from the country club as eminent domain so the acres could become parkland.

Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, located in Houston, Texas, is one of seven community hospitals that are part of Houston Methodist. It employs more than 2,100 people, has an estimated 1,000 affiliated doctors and admits more than 18,000 patients annually. The hospital serves communities in and around Northwest Houston.

Greenwood Forest is an unincorporated area in Harris County, Texas, United States. It is within the Champions region of area 649 acres (263 ha). According to Louis B. Parks of the Houston Chronicle, the commuting distance to Downtown Houston in 2004 was 20 minutes.

Willowbrook is an area in northwest Houston, Texas, United States bordered by the Cutten Road to the east, Grant to the north, Rockland to the west, and Beltway 8 to the south. Sam Houston Race Park is one mile away.

Klein Forest High School is a public senior high school in unincorporated Harris County, Texas, near Houston. It is a part of the Klein Independent School District. It was the second high school built in Klein ISD. Opening in the Fall of 1979, Klein Forest welcomes students from the southern side of the district, including the Champions area of F.M. 1960. Klein Forest celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2009. There are two intermediate campuses and eight elementary schools within its feeder pattern. In the spring of 2011, Klein Forest opened an NCAA-modeled athletic facility. Klein Forest serves grades 9-12. A portion of the Near Northwest district is served by the school.

Klein High School is a public high school located in Klein, Texas, United States, located approximately 20 miles (32 km) from Downtown Houston. It serves grades 9–12 in the Klein Independent School District. The current principal of Klein High School is Brandon Baker.

Cypress Creek High School, also known as Cy Creek, is a secondary public school located in unincorporated Harris County, Texas, United States. Cypress Creek, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District.
