Simi Valley is 40 miles (65 km) from Downtown Los Angeles, making it part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. The city sits next to Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, and Chatsworth. As of the 2020 U.S. Census the population was 126,356, up from 124,243 in 2010. The city of Simi Valley is surrounded by the Santa Susana Mountains and the Simi Hills, west of the San Fernando Valley, and northeast of the Conejo Valley. It grew as a commuter bedroom community for the cities in the Los Angeles area, and the San Fernando Valley when a freeway was built over the Santa Susana Pass. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, where the former president was buried in 2004, is in Simi Valley. The Reagan Library has hosted Republican primary debates in 2011, 2015, and in 2023.

Simi Institute for Careers and Education, formerly known as Simi Valley Adult School, is the adult education division of the Simi Valley Unified School District located in eastern Ventura County, between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Counties. School enrolments are reported to be more than 11,000 students a year with about half pursuing occupational training programs. Simi Institute is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Santa Susana High School is one of four public high schools located in the Simi Valley Unified School District in Simi Valley, California. Built in 1970, the school campus was originally designed as a junior high campus formerly known as Sequoia Junior High School. In June 1995, the Simi Valley School Board voted one junior high campus be converted into a magnet high school to accommodate the move of 9th graders into regular high school campuses, and all remaining junior high campuses be converted into middle schools. The school board elected Sequoia Junior High over Hillside Junior High because of its location. Santa Susana High School officially opened on September 5, 1996.Currently, Santa Susana High School is configured with three major classroom blocks, surrounding a quad. A large open-air amphitheater divides the classroom complex, and the school's MUR, music, stagecraft, film and broadcasting workshops, and Black Box Theater. The technical, 422-seat Performing Arts Center, dance studios, and the student parking lot are located west of the multipurpose room. The school colors are silver, black, white, and teal. The mascot is the Troubadour.

Simi Valley Town Center is a lifestyle center located in Simi Valley, California. It was owned and operated by Forest City Enterprises. The mall was sold to Alberta Development Partners and Walton Street Capital in 2010. The retail center opened in 2005 with Macy's and Robinsons-May as anchor stores; the latter was converted into a Macy's Men's and Home store on September 9, 2006. The complex was designed by the architectural firm F+A Architects to resemble a hillside Italian village.The center is home to KWSV-LP, a non-commercial low-power FM radio station known as "99.1 The Ranch" that launched in 2015 with a country music format.It is also home of the Skateboarding Hall of Fame Museum. On January 4, 2017, Macy's announced that it would be closing the Men's and Home store, consolidating those departments with the existing women's store at a later date. The closure is part of a restructuring effort that involves closing 68 stores and eliminating more than 10,000 jobs nationwide.On September 15, 2017, Apple closed their doors permanently. On January 18, 2024, it was announced that Macy's would be closing as part of a plan to close 5 stores nationwide, which will leave the mall with no anchors.

Challenger Park is a 141.55-acre open-space park (57.28 ha) located in southern portion of Simi Valley, California in the Simi Hills. The park is owned and maintained by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District. Challenger Park is used for mountain hiking, mountain biking, jogging, and horseback riding but with a focus on the preservation of wildlife habitat. The scenery lining the trails includes extensive oak woodlands, chaparral, and coastal sage scrub. The terrain varies greatly with rolling green hills and steep mountainous hills and canyons. The park offers miles of trails connecting to Long Canyon, Oak Canyon, Trough Canyon, Lone Oak Canyon, and other adjoining open-space nature areas in the southern section of the Simi Valley. There is a fairly easy hike to Thousand Oaks, CA via Long Canyon trails. To get to Oak Canyon, Old Windmill Park and Coyote Hills Park, you must cross Long Canyon Road. Fences run along the Long Canyon Road with dirt paths. There are also lights at the signals with push buttons for hikers, and raised buttons for equestrians. Adjacent to Challenger Park is also Bridle Trails, a private hiking area. There are scenic views of the City of Simi Valley from the park and it is a native habitat for numerous species of animals, including mule deer, mountain lions, coyotes, rattlesnakes, crawdads, California king-snakes, grey foxes, bobcats, as well as red-tailed hawks, barn owls, and numerous other raptors. From California State Route 118, take the First Street exit in Simi Valley and continue south, turn right if coming from the west and turn left if from the east. Follow this road for 2.8 miles and then turn left into the Challenger Park parking lot, just past the intersection with Stonebrook. From California State Route 23, take the Olsen Road exit in Thousand Oaks, CA and go northeast for nearly 2 miles to Wood Ranch Parkway. Turn right on Wood Ranch and go approximately two miles to the junction with Long Canyon Road. Then turn left onto Long Canyon Road and follow the road for 1.7 miles. Challenger Park will be on the right, shortly before Long Canyon Road becomes First Street in South Simi Valley. The address is 105 Challenger Park Road, Simi Valley, CA 93065.

The Brandeis-Bardin Campus of American Jewish University is a Jewish retreat located since 1947 in the northeastern Simi Hills, in the city of Simi Valley, California. Formerly known as the Brandeis-Bardin Institute, it is used for nondenominational summer programs for children, teens, and young adults.

California Virtual Academies (CAVA) are nine virtual charter schools with business agreements with the curriculum-provider K12 Inc. The nine virtual charter schools are CAVA@Fresno, CAVA@Kings, CAVA@Los Angeles, CAVA@Maricopa, CAVA@San Diego, CAVA@San Joaquin, CAVA@San Mateo, CAVA@Sonoma, and CAVA@Sutter. Although all public charter schools are nonprofit organizations, they are affiliated with a for-profit company, K12 Inc. Each of the nine academies has its own independent board of directors. Each of the California Virtual Academies follow the educational principles of E.D. Hirsch Jr. Each student of the California Virtual Academies is assigned to a California-credentialed homeroom teacher with 30–35 students each. The academies, like most K12 Inc.-supplied schools, loan the student textbooks, materials, and a computer so the student can access online lessons.

Simi Valley (Chumash: Shimiyi) is a synclinal valley in Southern California in the United States. It is an enclosed or hidden valley surrounded by mountains and hills. It is connected to the San Fernando Valley to the east by the Santa Susana Pass and the 118 (Ronald Reagan) freeway, and in the west the narrows of the Arroyo Simi and the Reagan Freeway connection to Moorpark. The relatively flat bottom of the valley contains soils formed from shales, sandstones, and conglomerates eroded from the surrounding hills of the Santa Susana Mountains to the north, which separate Simi Valley from the Santa Clara River Valley, and the Simi Hills.
