The West Burton power stations are a pair of power stations on the River Trent near Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England. West Burton A was a coal-fired power station, which was commissioned in 1966 and operated until 2023, and West Burton B is a combined cycle gas turbine power station, commissioned in 2013. West Burton A is owned by EDF Energy, while West Burton B is owned and operated by EIG Global Energy Partners. The station has been accredited as an Investor in People since 1995 and certified to ISO 14001 for its environmental management system since 1996. The power station won a RoSPA President's Award in 2006, 2007 and 2008. The site is the farthest north of what was a series of power stations in the Trent valley, being 3.5 miles (5.6 km) downstream of the now-closed Cottam power stations. As of September 2022, it was one of only three coal-fired power stations left in the UK and will need to close before 2024, with generation on two units currently planned to cease on 30 September 2022.Due to the volatile energy market associated with the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the United Kingdom Government agreed with plant owners EDF Energy that the remaining two generating units would be available for use for 6 months beyond the 30 September 2022 closure date, in order to provide supplies over the winter period. The plant ended generation on 31 March 2023.

West Burton is a hamlet and civil parish in Nottinghamshire, England, located in the north-east of the county within the district of Bassetlaw. It lies between the villages of Bole and Sturton le Steeple. The Saxon name "burh-ton" states a fortified farmstead with the village lying to the west of Gate Burton in Lincolnshire. The recorded population at the 2021 census was 14 residents.

Bole is a village and civil parish in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire, England. It is close by the River Trent, on the eastern side of which is Gainsborough in Lincolnshire. At one time the village stood – like the neighbouring parish of West Burton – very near to an oxbow lake, known as Bole Round. However flooding led to the original course of the River Trent being diverted after 1792. The parish now lies within a landscape largely dominated by the West Burton power stations. According to the 2001 census Bole had a population of 140,a count of 247 at the 2011 census (which included South Wheatley and West Burton parishes), and singularly reported as 135 in 2021.

Sturton le Steeple is a village located 6 miles (9.7 km) east of Retford, Nottinghamshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population (including Littleborough and Fenton) of 497, reducing slightly to 486 at the 2011 census, but increasing to 545 residents in the 2021 census.

St Peter and St Paul's Church, Sturton-le-Steeple is a Grade II* listed parish church in the Church of England in Sturton le Steeple, near Retford in Nottinghamshire. It is currently in the Clays Group of churches.

Fenton is a hamlet in Nottinghamshire, England. It is about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) east of Retford. Population details are included in the civil parish of Sturton le Steeple. Fenton was a possession of the Thornhaugh family since the reign of Henry VI. Residents of Fenton Hall, some were members of parliament or served as High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire. Francis Thornhagh (1617–1648) was a Parliamentarian colonel who died in the Battle of Preston and was buried at Sturton le Steeple. His son, John Thornhagh, was a long-serving Whig member of parliament.

Saundby is a hamlet and civil parish in Nottinghamshire two miles west of Gainsborough. Although it comes under Beckingham cum Saundby parish council, by 2011 it had become a separate civil parish in its own right. The parish is bordered on one side by the River Trent. The village Church of St Martin was extensively restored in 1885.

St Martin of Tours' Church is a redundant Anglican church in the village of Saundby, Nottinghamshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

North Leverton with Habblesthorpe is a village and civil parish in the English county of Nottinghamshire. It is about 5 miles or 8 km east of Retford. The population (including the hamlet of Coates) as at the 2011 Census was 1,047, and in the Census 2021 it had increased to 1,079.Unlike other civil parishes with a name of the form "X with Y", North Leverton with Habblesthorpe is shown as a village name on Ordnance Survey maps and thus has the longest name of a village in England and is the second longest in Europe, behind a Welsh village. These were considered separate parishes and settlements until 1884 when a process to merge the two was completed.The village has a primary school, a parish church, a small village store/post office, and a pub, The Royal Oak.

Leverton railway station was a station between North Leverton with Habblesthorpe and South Leverton, Nottinghamshire, England which closed in November 1959. The line was reopened in 1967 for freight trains serving Cottam power stations, although the rest of line, through to Saxilby and Lincoln via Torksey, closed to passengers in November 1959. The final train was a railtour from Clapham Junction, in September 2019. The line is now officially closed, with the barrier boom arms having been removed at Leverton AHBC, and Westbrecks AHBC. The rails have since turned brown, and are unlikely to be used again. Several accidents happened at the crossing adjacent to the station, culminating in a near collision with a school bus in January 1970, before automatic half-barriers were later fitted.
