Saints Cyril and Methodius Church (Czech: Kostel Svatých Cyrila a Metoděje) was a historic church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago. It was located in Chicago, Illinois at 5009 South Hermitage Avenue. Built in 1913, Sts. Cyril and Methodius served a Bohemian congregation for decades until archdiocesan budget cuts in 1990 led to the church being closed.

St. Joseph's (Polish: Kościół Świętego Józefa) is a historic church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago located in Chicago, Illinois at 4821 South Hermitage Avenue. Founded in 1887 with the current church building dating to 1914, Saint Joseph's is a prime example of the Polish Cathedral style of churches in both its opulence and grand scale. Along with St. John of God and Holy Cross, it is one of three monumental religious edifices that dominates the skyline of the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The parish survived archdiocesan budget cuts in 1990, and, in 2021, was merged with several local churches into a single parish. Today, St. Joseph serves a multicultural community.

Back of the Yards College Preparatory High School, commonly known as Back of the Yards College Prep or BOYCP, is a public 4–year international baccalaureate high school located in the New City community area on the southwest side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Back of the Yards is operated by the Chicago Public Schools district and has a general education program in addition to an International Baccalaureate program. Back of the Yards College Prep was named after the neighborhood it is located in, Back of the Yards. Back of the Yards College Prep is accessible via the Chicago L's nearby Western Orange Line station.

Goldblatt's was an American chain of local discount stores that operated in Chicago, Illinois, as well as Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. Founded in 1914, the chain grew to more than twenty stores at its peak, gradually closing some stores in the 1990s and selling others to Ames before finally closing completely in 2000.

Holy Cross Church (Chicago), referred to in Lithuanian as Šv. Kryžiaus Bažnyčia, is a historic church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago located on West 46th Street in Chicago, Illinois. Built by Lithuanian immigrants, it bears a striking resemblance to many of Chicago's so-called "Polish Cathedrals" by virtue of the common heritage Poles and Lithuanians shared during the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and reflected in their architectural tastes. Holy Cross merged with the nearby Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on 45th and Ashland to make one parish, Holy Cross - Immaculate Heart of Mary. In 2021, the parish was further united with two nearby churches.

University of Chicago Settlement was a settlement of the University of Chicago. It was established January, 1894, by the Philanthropic Committee of the Christian Union of the University of Chicago. Initially, two graduate students (William Johnson and Max West) were in residence "to provide a center for educational, religious and philanthropic work." Mary McDowell became head resident September 15, 1894. Located at 4630 Gross Avenue (1905-), its former locations included 4655 Gross Avenue, 1894–1869; and 4638 Ashland Avenue, 1896–1905. The locale was the "back of the yards” —- the Union Stock Yards. There, McDowell and 26 other residents conducted civic work, in which they were assisted by students, alumni, and members of the school faculties. These and all members of the university supported the settlement children's yell:— "One, two, three! Who are we? We are the members of the Universitee!"

Davis Square is a public park located between 44th and 45th Streets and Marshfield and Hermitage Avenues in the New City community area of Chicago, Illinois. The park opened in 1905 as one of the initial parks in the South Park Commission's plan to build parks in the dense, poor neighborhoods of Chicago's South Side. It was named for Nathan Smith Davis, a Chicago physician and one of the founders of the American Medical Association. As they did for most of the South Park Commission's parks, the Olmsted Brothers designed Davis Square's landscape, while D. H. Burnham and Company designed its facilities. The park initially included a Beaux-Arts styled fieldhouse, a swimming pool and pool house, baseball fields, and walking paths.The park was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 18, 2003.

Immaculate Heart of Mary (Spanish: Inmaculado Corazon de Maria) is a church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago located on South Ashland Avenue near 45th Street in Chicago, Illinois. The church was constructed more recently, compared other places of worship in the Back of the Yards area, such as St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church or Holy Cross Church. The church, along with Holy Cross, formed part of the Holy Cross - Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, which was in turn merged with two nearby churches into a new parish in 2021.

Western is a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's 'L' system, serving the Orange Line. It is located between the neighborhoods of Brighton Park and Gage Park. The Orange Line crosses Western Avenue three times, however the station is located at its southernmost crossing at 49th Street.

New City is one of Chicago's 77 official community areas, located on the southwest side of the city in the South Side district. It contains the neighborhoods of Canaryville and Back of the Yards. The area was home to the famous Union Stock Yards until it closed in 1971, and the International Amphitheatre until it was demolished in 1999.

Lithuanian Research and Studies Center (LRSC) (Lith.: Lituanistikos tyrimo ir studijų centras (LTSC)) is a non-profit scholarly research organization, which brings together varying cultural and academic organizations towards acquiring and preserving Lithuanian artifacts, documents, and other materials of cultural significance. The LRSC was created in 1982 in Chicago, Illinois to unify a number of other Lithuanian organizations. It has two facilities. Its archival, periodical, audio-visual and musicology collections are in a 7,000 square foot self-owned facility at 15533 129th St. in Lemont. Its 75,000 volume library, Lithuanian Museum, Thomas Remeikis Political Science Library, Jonas Dainauskas History Library, Milda Budrys Medical Museum, military and art archives comprise another 7,000 square feet in the Lithuanian Youth Center (Lietuvių Jaunimo Centras, 5620 S. Claremont Ave.) in Chicago, Illinois. It is funded by donations primarily from the Lithuanian American community. The center is the largest Lithuanian scholarly institution, archive, and publisher outside Lithuania. It has published over 50 scholarly books in both Lithuanian and English. The current chairman of the LRSC is Robert A. Vitas. The current president is Kristina Lapienyte. The LRSC has become a notable organization in Lithuanian studies.

Sherman Park is a sixty-acre park in the New City neighborhood of South Side, Chicago. It was designed by renowned landscape architects John Charles Olmsted and Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., and celebrated Chicago architect Daniel Burnham. It opened in 1905. The park's recreational facilities include two gymnasiums, a fitness center, a swimming pool, as well as outdoor space for basketball, tennis, baseball, soccer and football.The park was named for John B. Sherman, Burnham's father-in-law and a founder of Chicago's Union Stock Yards.The park was designed specifically to enrich the immigrant, working class residents of the surrounding neighborhood.
