Immanuel Christian School (Springfield, Virginia)

Backlick Road station is located at 6900 Hechinger Drive in Springfield, Virginia. The station serves the Virginia Railway Express Manassas Line on weekdays, except it is bypassed by two inbound trains and one outbound train each day. The station serves a right-of-way first laid down in the 1840s by the Orange and Alexandria Railroad. An earlier station on or near the site, Springfield station, was briefly seized by Confederate troops in 1861, recaptured by Union troops, and raided again the following year. The current structure was built by the VRE in 1992.The right-of-way passed via successor railroads to its current owner, Norfolk Southern. Additional trackage rights are held by VRE and Amtrak, whose Cardinal and Crescent trains pass through Backlick Road station but do not stop there.

The St. James is a 20-acre (8.1 ha) 450,000-square-foot multi-purpose sports complex located in Springfield, Virginia, United States. The complex includes a private health club, water park; venues for basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball, swimming, climbing, gymnastics, golf, and squash; and two professional regulation-sized indoor ice hockey rinks and one soccer pitch. The complex is used by Major League Soccer (MLS) team D.C. United as its official training center and by Women's Football Alliance team D.C. Divas as a home venue.

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (also known as TJHSST, TJ, or Jefferson) is a Virginia state-chartered magnet school in Fairfax County, Virginia. It is routinely rated among the best public high schools in the United States. It is a regional high school operated by Fairfax County Public Schools. The selective admissions program was initiated in 1985 through the cooperation of state and county governments, as well as corporate sponsorship from the defense and technology industries. The school occupies the building of the previous Thomas Jefferson High School (constructed in 1965). It is one of 18 Virginia Governor's Schools, and a founding member of the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology. In 2016, the school placed first in Newsweek's annual "America's Top High Schools" rankings for the third consecutive year and fifth in US News & World Report's 2016 High School Rankings.Attendance at the school is open to students in six local jurisdictions based on prior academic achievement, recommendations, and essays. TJ removed the application fee, as well as the math and reading sections of its exam from its selection process in October 2020, while still retaining a written portion, which includes an essay and short response sections about the student.

Thomas Jefferson High School was a public high school in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States; it had an Alexandria mailing address but was outside of the Alexandria city limits. A part of the Fairfax County Public Schools, it opened in 1964 and closed in 1987. The school was co-located with the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology from 1985–1987. It stopped accepting new students after 1985, and merged with Annandale High School for the 1987–1988 school year. No students from Jefferson or TJHSST graduated in 1988. Students who had attended TJ from 1984 to 1987 graduated from Annandale HS in 1988.

The Springfield Interchange, also known as the Mixing Bowl, is the interchange of Interstate 95, Interstate 395, and Interstate 495 in Springfield, Virginia, outside of Washington, D.C. The interchange is located at exit 57 on the Capital Beltway, exit 170 on I-95, and exit 1 on I-395. Some people, including many Washington-area media sources, refer to this interchange as the "Mixing Bowl" because, prior to the reconstruction, local and long distance travelers shared the same lanes and travelers had to merge to the right or left to reach the correct lanes for their destination. The last of this weaving and merging was eliminated on April 21, 2007.

Annandale High School is a public high school in Annandale, Virginia, United States. It is part of the Fairfax County Public Schools system. The school's student body has been well-recognized for its high level of racial and cultural diversity since at least the 1980s. Students derive from over 90 countries and speak more than 50 languages.The school's diverse student body has been noted by multiple US presidential administrations. In 1998, AHS was chosen by then-President Bill Clinton's Race Initiative Advisory Board as the site and focus of round-table discussions on race and education. In 2006, Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings visited Annandale to commend the school's diverse language programs, and to announce a $188,000 grant for Fairfax County Public Schools to expand Arabic and Chinese programs. And in October 2011, AHS was visited by First Lady Michelle Obama and First Lady of South Korea Kim Yoon-ok, who spoke at a school ceremony celebrating education and the school's diverse ethnic composition.AHS is the publishing site and focus of The A-Blast Newspaper, a YJDP paper of The Washington Post that was consistently honored as one of the top-ten high school newspapers in the country from the late 1990s to 2009 by the National Scholastic Press Association and the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.Historically AHS has also had a competitive football program. The Atoms have won six state championships since 1965, and were ranked as the best high school football team in the country by the National Sports News Service after completing an undefeated season in 1978. The team has seen district-wide and sporadic statewide success since the mid-1990s.

Ossian Hall was an 18th-century plantation house in Annandale, Fairfax County, Virginia. Ossian Hall was one of three large residences, along with Oak Hill, and Ravensworth, owned by the Fitzhugh family in Fairfax County.

The University of Northern Virginia (UNVA) was an unaccredited for-profit private undergraduate and graduate university in Annandale, Virginia, The university offered bachelors, Masters and doctoral degrees. Although UNVA was not well known within the United States, it called itself the most popular American university for students from India.UNVA has received government scrutiny and media coverage for its academic and immigration practices. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raided UNVA offices and informed school officials on July 28, 2011, that the government was ending UNVA's authorization to admit foreign students. Kapil Sibal, a minister in India's current cabinet, compared UNVA to a "sham university," stating UNVA does not have acceptable accreditation. Although media sources in India speculated that UNVA would close permanently in 2011, the university remained open and moved to South Dakota in 2013 when the Commonwealth of Virginia revoked its license to operate in that state. On October 1, 2013, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ended UNVA's authorization to admit foreign students.In October 2013, UNVA announced its move to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. At its new location, UNVA is facing scrutiny as well. UNVA is investigated by the South Dakota Attorney General's office, and its office suite sits empty. As of March 6, 2014, UNVA has removed the references to their new location in South Dakota from their website.

Springfield United Methodist Church (formerly Springfield Methodist) was established in 1954 [2] in the Washington, DC suburb of Springfield, Virginia. Springfield United Methodist Church is a member of the Alexandria District in the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church. The first service of the church that would become Springfield Methodist was held in January 1954 at Garfield School. Thirty-three residents were in attendance along with representatives of the sponsoring church, Trinity Methodist [3] in Alexandria. Ground breaking for the first unit of the new church building occurred in 1955, and the second unit was completed in 1960. By June 1974, the original building had been remodeled and air conditioning installed. In 2000 the church was completely renovated inside and outside and the pipe organ refurbished.
