Texas Beach Skate Park

Texas Beach in Richmond, Virginia is a riverside area located south of Maymont and west of Hollywood Cemetery. The area is named Texas Beach after Texas Avenue in the Maymont neighborhood, which was the original street to reach the recreation area. Today, it served via the North Bank Trail. The area is home to numerous river beaches, a skatepark, and mountain bike trails.

Maymont is a 100-acre (0.156 sq mi) Victorian estate and public park in Richmond, Virginia. It contains Maymont Mansion, now a historic house museum, an arboretum, formal gardens, a carriage collection, native wildlife exhibits, a nature center, and Children's Farm. In 1893, James H. Dooley, a wealthy Richmond lawyer and philanthropist, and his wife, Sallie, completed their elaborate Gilded Age estate on a site high above the James River. According to their wishes, after their deaths Maymont was left to the people of Richmond. Over the next 75 years, additional attractions were added.

The James River Parks System (also known as James River Park or simply JRPS) is a 550-acre (220 ha) municipal park in Richmond, Virginia. It consists of multiple sections along the James River between the Huguenot Memorial Bridge in the west to a half mile (0.8 km) beyond the I-95 Bridge over the James in the east. It is a part of the city’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities.

The Byrd Park Court Historic District encompasses a small, well-preserved residential subdivision in western Richmond, Virginia. Located just east of William Byrd Park, nearly opposite the Swan Lake Drive entrance, stands Byrd Park Court, a loop road on which are set six duplexes and six single-family houses. A stone gate flanks the entrance, and the center of the loop has a grassy area with a water fountain. The houses were built in the 1920s, in a variety of period revival styles with Craftsman touches.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Hollywood Cemetery is a large, sprawling cemetery located next to Richmond, Virginia's Oregon Hill neighborhood at 412 South Cherry Street. Characterized by rolling hills and winding paths overlooking the James River, it is the resting place of two United States Presidents, James Monroe and John Tyler, as well as the only Confederate States President, Jefferson Davis. It is also the resting place of 28 Confederate generals, more than any other cemetery in the country; these include George Pickett and J.E.B. Stuart.

Randolph is a historically black middle class neighborhood located within the West End of Richmond, Virginia. The neighborhood is named in honor of Virginia E. Randolph, a former African-American educator in Henrico County, Virginia during the 19th century. The neighborhood is bounded by the Downtown Expressway to the north, Harrison Street to the east, Colorado Avenue to the south, and South Meadow street to the west. Some famous landmarks and places of interest in the neighborhood include Petronius Park, the Randolph Community Center, and just adjacent to the neighborhood, the Hollywood Cemetery. Randolph borders directly to its east, Oregon Hill and the northern tier of Hollywood Cemetery. To its south, it borders the Maymont neighborhood and River View. West of the community lies Byrd Park and Idlewood Park. Due north of the community is The Fan and the VCU Greek Row.

The James Monroe Tomb is the burial place of U.S. President James Monroe in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia, United States. The principal feature of the tomb is an architecturally unusual cast iron cage, designed by Albert Lybrock and installed in 1859 after Monroe's body was moved from Marble Cemetery in New York City. The tomb was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1971 for its unique architecture. To Richmonders it is colloquially known as The Birdcage.

The Forest Hill Historic District is a national historic district located at Richmond, Virginia. The district encompasses 1,106 contributing buildings and 5 contributing structures located south of downtown Richmond. The primarily residential area developed starting in the early-20th century as one of the city's early "streetcar suburbs." The buildings are in a variety of popular late-19th and early-20th century architectural styles including frame bungalows, Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, and Mission Revival. The buildings in Forest Hill exemplify a high quality of materials in their construction. Brick is the dominant building material. Notable non-residential buildings include Forest Hill Presbyterian Church; Good Shepherd Episcopal Church; and Forest Hill Church of Christ.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Forest Hill Park, known for its "Stone house" called Boscobel, is a historic 105-acre (0.4 km2) urban park in Richmond, Virginia. Starting as a private property, the park has had several owners and uses before its present one, the City of Richmond.

Forest Hill is a neighborhood located along the James River in Richmond, Virginia's Southside region. The neighborhood is home to Forest Hill Park, one of the largest public parks in the city.

Randolph School is a historic school in Richmond, Virginia. The oldest part was constructed in 1896, with additions made in 1900, 1934, and 1952. It is a 2 1/2-story, brick school building in the Italianate style. It features a four-story entrance tower with a mansard roof, ornamental terra cotta string course, brick corbelling and window hoods. Some of the rooms retain their original tin ceilings.Randolph School's architect and builder are unknown. The building's architecture is similar to Fairmount School in Richmond, which also remains in existence. The Fairmont School architectural style has been referred to as simplified Empire style with Gothic Revival details.Randolph School served an area then known as Sydney that included ironworkers and stonecutters. When it opened in 1896 tuition was $8.17, teachers earned $50 annually, and the principal $150. It became a "colored" school in 1930. Expansions added junior high school accommodations, a gymnasium, and cafeteria.It served various grades until 1970. It became a special education center until 1974, and was then closed. It was a community center for a time, since then has been rehabilitated as apartments for the elderly.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 4, 1984.

John B. Cary School is a historic school building located in Richmond, Virginia. The structure was built by the Wise Granite Company from 1912 to 1913 based on a design by noted Virginia architect Charles M. Robinson. The building is considered to be an outstanding example of Gothic Revival architecture. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, granite faced that has been little altered since its original construction. The school was named for Confederate Colonel John B. Cary, who served as the superintendent of the Richmond Public Schools from 1886 to 1889. In 1954, the school was renamed the West End School, when the school was converted for use as a school for African-American students in Richmond's segregated public school system. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.When West End School was formed John B. Cary School moved to a new location, 3021 Maplewood Ave, Richmond, as a White school. West End School was opened until 1976. The building of the new expressway displaced many families and enrollment dropped. The building housed the Adult Accelerated Learning Center (AALEC) from 1976 to 1984 and Franklin Military School from 1984 to 1986. It was released to the city to be sold in 1989. In 2012 the building became Winthrop Manor, an assisted living facility.John B. Cary School moved from a segregated enrollment to an open one in 1969. It was recognized by the U. S. Department of Education as one of Virginia's most outstanding elementary schools in 1987 and 1988.In 2012 the city considered closing the school due to lowered enrollment. As of 2012, fewer than 39 percent of the children who live in the Cary school zone attend there.
