Margate, Tasmania

The Margate Train is a tourist attraction and shopping area located adjacent to the Channel Highway in Margate, Tasmania, and includes a number of shops and outlets housed within former Tasmanian Government Railways rolling stock. It is located approximately 18 kilometres from Hobart.

Barretta is a rural locality in the local government area (LGA) of Kingborough in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) south-west of the town of Kingston. The 2016 census recorded a population of 41 for the state suburb of Barretta. Barretta is part of the Greater Hobart statistical area.

HMAS Curlew (M 1121) was a Ton-class minesweeper operated by the Royal Navy (as HMS Chediston) from 1953 to 1961, and the Royal Australian Navy from 1962 to 1991. During her Australian service, the ship operated off Malaysia during the Indonesia–Malaysia confrontation during the mid-1960s, then was modified for use as a minehunter. Delays in bringing a replacement class into service kept Curlew operational until 1990, and she was sold into civilian service in 1991.

Electrona is a rural residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Kingborough in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) south of the town of Kingston. The 2016 census recorded a population of 364 for the state suburb of Electrona. Electrona is also part of the Greater Hobart statistical area. It is a small residential area on the d'Entrecasteaux Channel in Southern Tasmania. It grew up around the Electrona Carbide Works which were established in 1909.

Howden, a suburb of Hobart, is a small, isolated community on the shore of North West Bay in Tasmania Australia. It is situated between the developing township of Kingston and the smaller Margate, it borders bushland and is located 21 kilometres (13 mi) south of Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania.

The Peter Murrell Conservation Area is located in Huntingfield, Tasmania, approximately 15 km (9.3 mi) south of the state's capital city, Hobart. The conservation area has an area of 135 ha (330 acres) and is one of three reserves within the Peter Murrell Reserves. Also within these reserves are the Peter Murrell State Reserve (133 ha (330 acres)) and a Public Reserve (9 ha (22 acres)). These reserves and the Conservation Area lie at the base of the Tinderbox Peninsula, between the suburbs of Kingston, Howden and Blackman's Bay. The Peter Murrell Conservation Area surrounds the northern, western and southern sides of the Peter Murrell State Reserve.

Snug is a small coastal town on the Channel Highway located 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. At the 2021 census, Snug had a population of 1440. Snug is a part of the Municipality of Kingborough, but with about 7% in the Huon Valley Council LGA. Snug is also part of the Greater Hobart statistical area.

Huntingfield is a residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Kingborough in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) south-west of the town of Kingston. The 2021 census recorded a population of 540 for the state suburb of Huntingfield.It is an outer suburb of the greater Hobart area, bordering Blackmans Bay and Kingston. The area was created in the late 1980s. Located in Huntingfield are Tarremah Steiner School, St Aloysius Catholic College and Kingborough Family Church. In 2017 its houses were the fastest selling in Australia, which was attributed to reasonable prices and a good range of services.

The Australian Marine Mammal Research Centre or AMMRC was established in 1996 as a co-operative centre of the University of Sydney and the Zoological Parks Board of New South Wales. The centre’s research program includes the impacts of climate change, the spatial, haul-out and foraging behaviour of leopard seals, population monitoring of Antarctic marine mammals, and the development of non-invasive techniques that will allow researchers to monitor the hormones of wild populations (whales, dolphins and seals) without having to restrain the animals. The researchers, behavioural ecologists and veterinarians, work on projects including: Seals of the Antarctic pack ice, Cetaceans in the coastal waters of New Guinea, Seal and cetacean populations in Australian waters, Comparing southern and northern hemisphere endangered populations of cetaceans.The research is supported by such organisations as the (Australian) Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO).

The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. The Division undertakes science programs and research projects to contribute to an understanding of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. It conducts and supports collaborative research programs with other Australian and international organisations, such as the Bureau of Meteorology and Geoscience Australia, as well as administering and maintaining a presence in Australian Antarctic and sub-Antarctic territories. Their website includes articles on the Antarctic wildlife, threats, guidelines and they have blogs written by Australians at the three Australian bases in Antarctica: Mawson, Davis and Casey.

Algona Road is a major link road, connecting the residents of Blackmans Bay to Kingston in Southern Tasmania, Australia. The road was constructed in 1986 as a two lane road, with provision for a second carriageway when needed. A roundabout was installed on the junction with the Channel Highway in 1993 to address safety issues. The Kingston Bypass connects Algona Road to the Southern Outlet and provides a quicker route to the City of Hobart.

Maranoa Heights is a residential neighbourhood of the suburb of Kingston in the greater Hobart area of Tasmania, Australia. It is largely within the southern part of the area contained by the B68 Channel Highway, the C628 Roslyn Avenue and Algona Road. Maranoa Heights contains large areas of recreational woodland accessed by walking tracks and overlooks the coastal suburbs of Kingston Beach and Blackmans Bay. Maranoa Heights is home to the Boronia Hill Flora Track.
