Australian Antarctic Division

The Australian Marine Mammal Research Centre or AMMRC was established in 1996 as a co-operative centre of the University of Sydney and the Zoological Parks Board of New South Wales. The centre’s research program includes the impacts of climate change, the spatial, haul-out and foraging behaviour of leopard seals, population monitoring of Antarctic marine mammals, and the development of non-invasive techniques that will allow researchers to monitor the hormones of wild populations (whales, dolphins and seals) without having to restrain the animals. The researchers, behavioural ecologists and veterinarians, work on projects including: Seals of the Antarctic pack ice, Cetaceans in the coastal waters of New Guinea, Seal and cetacean populations in Australian waters, Comparing southern and northern hemisphere endangered populations of cetaceans.The research is supported by such organisations as the (Australian) Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO).

Huntingfield is a residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Kingborough in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) south-west of the town of Kingston. The 2021 census recorded a population of 540 for the state suburb of Huntingfield.It is an outer suburb of the greater Hobart area, bordering Blackmans Bay and Kingston. The area was created in the late 1980s. Located in Huntingfield are Tarremah Steiner School, St Aloysius Catholic College and Kingborough Family Church. In 2017 its houses were the fastest selling in Australia, which was attributed to reasonable prices and a good range of services.

Calvin Christian School is a coeducational, private Kindergarten to Year 12 Christian school located 12 kilometres south of Hobart, Tasmania in Kingston. It is part of Christian Schools Tasmania, a network of four schools around Hobart. It is owned and managed by an association, whose members are parents and past parents of students. Although initiated and supported by members of the Christian Reformed Churches of Australia, the Church has no controlling influence, and the school community now includes many families from other Christian backgrounds. Calvin Christian School was the first Christian parent-controlled school in Australia, founded in 1962 by members of the Dutch Reformed community living in and around Kingston. The founders of the school were a group of Christian parents who shared a desire to educate their children in a Christ-centred environment. The school campus was built without any government funding, with many of the construction workers being parents of future students, who volunteered their time and resources to bring the school into existence. Calvin Christian School is named after the Protestant reformer John Calvin. The school's annual fundraiser, held in September, is the Oliebollen Festival, which is well attended by the local community.

Algona Road is a major link road, connecting the residents of Blackmans Bay to Kingston in Southern Tasmania, Australia. The road was constructed in 1986 as a two lane road, with provision for a second carriageway when needed. A roundabout was installed on the junction with the Channel Highway in 1993 to address safety issues. The Kingston Bypass connects Algona Road to the Southern Outlet and provides a quicker route to the City of Hobart.

The Kingborough Sports Centre (KSC), is a multi-purpose sports venue located in the southern Hobart (Tasmania) suburb of Kingston. The centre was opened on 19 May 1979 and since opening has become a vital part of the Kingborough Community. After the centre was opened it became the area's main venue for indoor sports such as volleyball, basketball and netball. In 1983 Australia's National Basketball League expanded in its 5th season to include the newly formed Hobart Devils who chose the Kingborough Sports Centre as their home stadium. The Devils regularly played in front of packed houses at Kingborough despite the team's lack of success and a feature of their games was the court, which like any community based sports centre not only had the outline of the basketball court but players and officials had to contend with the markings from sports such as netball, volleyball and badminton as well. The Devils remained at the 1,800 capacity Kingborough until the end of the 1988 NBL season, during which time it became increasingly obvious that a larger venue would be needed to cater for the increased crowds the NBL was seeing at the time. The problem for the Devils was solved when the 5,400 seat Derwent Entertainment Centre opened in 1989. The Hobart Devils, after a six-year run at the KSC moved 16 km north into the heart of Hobart and the centre reverted to being a community based sports centre.

Maranoa Heights is a residential neighbourhood of the suburb of Kingston in the greater Hobart area of Tasmania, Australia. It is largely within the southern part of the area contained by the B68 Channel Highway, the C628 Roslyn Avenue and Algona Road. Maranoa Heights contains large areas of recreational woodland accessed by walking tracks and overlooks the coastal suburbs of Kingston Beach and Blackmans Bay. Maranoa Heights is home to the Boronia Hill Flora Track.

Kingston High School is a government co-educational comprehensive junior secondary school located in Kingston, a suburb of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Established in 1972, the school caters for approximately 700 students from Years 7 to 10. The school is administered by the Tasmanian Department of Education. In 2019 student enrolments were 643. The school principal is Dr Libby Robinson.The school is a six-stream school, with at least six class groups for each year level at the school.

Southern Christian College is an independent non-denominational Christian co-educational primary and secondary day school located in Kingston, Tasmania providing education from kinder to year 12, as well as providing pre-school services as Kingston Early Learning Centre. Southern Christian College was founded in 1986. Since 2014 it has been an International Baccalaureate world school, teaching the IB curriculum.It is a ministry of CityLight Church, which is located on the same property. The school is a member of Christian Schools Australia and Independent Schools Tasmania. Until 2015 it taught kinder-year 10, when it received authorisation to start year 11 and 12 in 2016.

Kingston is a town on the outskirts of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Nestled 12 km south of the city between and around several hills, Kingston is the seat of the Kingborough Council, and today serves as the gateway between Hobart and the D'Entrecasteaux Channel region, which meets the Derwent River nearby. It is one of the fastest-growing regions in Tasmania. The Kingston-Huntingfield statistical area had an estimated population of 11,200 in June 2012.Although the Kingston-Blackmans Bay region is statistically classed as a separate urban area to Hobart by the ABS, Kingston is also part of the Greater Hobart statistical area.

Channel Court is a sub regional shopping centre located on the Channel Highway, Kingston, Hobart, Tasmania. Comprising an indoor outdoor complex, and standalone facilities, the centre is primarily anchored by Tasmania's largest Big W and a Woolworths supermarket, as well as Tasmania's only KaiserCraft store. The centre has a gross lettable area of 25,415 m2 (273,560 sq ft).

The Kingston Interchange is a hybrid four way interchange incorporating a roundabout and elements of a trumpet interchange. It connects the Southern Outlet with the Huon Highway and the Channel Highway at Kingston, within the greater area of Hobart, Tasmania. The Kingston Interchange has recently been upgraded to address safety problems associated with right-turn movements at the interchange. The interchange modifications included: Replacement of the existing T junction of the Southern Outlet south bound off-ramp and the Huon Highway with a roundabout Provide a new on-ramp for Kingston to Hobart Traffic Provide a new on-ramp for Kingston to Margate TrafficThe Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources also upgraded the interchange with the intention of providing a dual-carriage highway south of the interchange some time in the future (see Kingston Bypass).

The Peter Murrell Conservation Area is located in Huntingfield, Tasmania, approximately 15 km (9.3 mi) south of the state's capital city, Hobart. The conservation area has an area of 135 ha (330 acres) and is one of three reserves within the Peter Murrell Reserves. Also within these reserves are the Peter Murrell State Reserve (133 ha (330 acres)) and a Public Reserve (9 ha (22 acres)). These reserves and the Conservation Area lie at the base of the Tinderbox Peninsula, between the suburbs of Kingston, Howden and Blackman's Bay. The Peter Murrell Conservation Area surrounds the northern, western and southern sides of the Peter Murrell State Reserve.
