Al Shagub (Arabic: الشقب, romanized: Ash Shaqb; also spelled Al Shaqab) is a district of Al Rayyan City in Qatar, located in the municipality of Al Rayyan. As the district houses the universities in Qatar Foundation's educational project Education City, the district itself is sometimes referred to as Education City. Qatar Foundation has played a major role in developing the district.

Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) is a branch of Texas A&M University located in Education City, Al Rayyan, Qatar. The university offers undergraduate degrees in chemical, electrical, mechanical, and petroleum engineering. A graduate program for chemical engineering (master's degree) commenced in 2011.

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (Arabic: جامعة كارنيجي ميلون في قطر) is one of the degree-granting branch campuses of Carnegie Mellon University, located in Doha, Qatar. It is Carnegie Mellon's first undergraduate branch campus, is a member of the Qatar Foundation, and began graduating students in May 2008.Carnegie Mellon Qatar currently has approximately 400 students, 60 faculty and postdoctoral researchers, and 90 staff.

Lawh Wa Qalam (Arabic: لوح وقلم, lit. 'Canvas and Pen') is a museum located in Education City on the outskirts of Doha, Qatar. Spanning an area of more than 3,000 square meters, it contains more than 150 works in its collection. Commissioned by the Qatar Foundation, the museum was inaugurated on November 28, 2025. It is dedicated to the life and works of Indian artist M. F. Husain. Husain, who faced backlash from Hindu nationalists in India due to his nude portrayals of Hindu goddesses, went into a self-imposed exile for his safety in 2006. He relocated to Qatar, where he lived until his death in 2011. The museum contains various works created by Husain during his stay in Qatar. It is said that the creation of the museum was a promise made to Husain before his death by his friend and patron Moza bint Nasser, chair of the Qatar Foundation and mother of current Qatari emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The museum building was designed by Indian architect Martand Khosla. The design takes inspiration from a sketch made by Husain in 2008. It consists of two square bluish structures and a cylindrical white tower. Glazed tiles, reminiscent of Central Asian architecture, cover the exterior, shielding the building from heat. The phrase Lawh Wa Qalam (Arabic for "Canvas and Pen") is inscribed on the facade. Entrance is via a golden arched doorway. No natural light is allowed into the upper galleries, where older paintings are kept, to prevent damage. The campus also includes a cafe, a library, a gift shop and an auditorium. The museum's collection consists of paintings, tapestries and photographs made by Husain. It includes 35 paintings from the "Arab civilization" series, commissioned by Moza bint Nasser. It also includes an installation entitled Seeroo fi al ardh (Arabic for "travel through the earth"), which is one of the last works made by Husain. Conceived in 2009 at the behest of Qatar Foundation, it depicts humanity's progress, consisting of horse figures, sculptures depicting the polymath Abbas ibn Firnas and Leonardo da Vinci's flying machine, and vintage cars. It also includes personal belongings of Husain, such as his Indian passport, which he surrendered in 2010.

Education City is an educational and research hub in Qatar situated in Al Rayyan Municipality and forming a key part of the Doha Metropolitan Area. Developed by the Qatar Foundation, the 12 square kilometres (4.6 sq mi) property houses various educational facilities, including satellite campuses of eight international universities.

Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) is a campus of Georgetown University (Washington, D.C.) in Education City, Doha, Qatar. It is one of Georgetown University's eleven undergraduate and graduate schools, and is supported by a partnership between Qatar Foundation and Georgetown University. In 2015, the university broadened its remit to include executive and professional education and custom training programs, in addition to the primary Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree. It rebranded to Georgetown University in Qatar (previously Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar or SFS-Q) to reflect the broadening of its remit.

The Center for International and Regional Studies (CIRS), located in Doha, Qatar, is a center for international and regional affairs. The center is a part of Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Qatar). The center works closely with SFS-Qatar Faculty to create research and publications, organize events and manage outreach activities. Founded in 2005, the center works mainly in four areas: research, events and conferences, outreach and publications. Its inaugural director, Mehran Kamrava, still directs the center as of 2015. The center's main activities are concentrated on the political affairs of the Middle East region, with a lesser emphasis being placed on global affairs.

Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) is a branch of Weill Cornell Medicine of Cornell University, established on April 9, 2001 following an agreement between Cornell University and the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. It is located in Education City, Qatar, near the capital of Doha. WCM-Q has 318 students, 21 preliminary students, 97 pre-medical students, and 200 in its MD program.

Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU; Arabic: جامعة حمد بن خليفة) is a public university located within Education City in Doha, the capital city of Qatar. The university, a member of Qatar Foundation, was founded in 2010. The university began graduating students in 2014. It was named after Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Emir of Qatar.

Qatar Digital Library (QDL) is a bilingual online library which was launched as a joint venture by a partnership consisting of Qatar Foundation, Qatar National Library and the British Library in October 2014. QDL comprises one of the largest online collections of historic records on the Persian Gulf countries.

Education City Mosque (QFIS Mosque; Arabic: مسجد المدينة التعليمية), is the national mosque of Education City Al Rayyan in Qatar. It is located in the Minaretein building, which rests on five large columns representing the five pillars of Islam, with each featuring a verse drawn from the Quran. In 2016, the building was nominated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for its inaugural international prize. In 2015, it won the Best Religious Building prize at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) in Singapore. The mosque was designed by the architectural team of Mangera Yvars.

The Qatar National Library station is a station on the Doha Metro's Green Line in the Al Shagub district. It serves the municipality of Al Rayyan, specifically Al Shagub and other districts associated with Education City and Qatar Foundation. It is found on Al Luqta Street, beside the Qatar National Library.The station currently has no metrolinks. Facilities on the premises include restrooms and a prayer room.
