Ross S. Sterling High School is a public high school located in Baytown, Texas and classified as a 6A school by the UIL. Sterling is a part of the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District which covers southeastern Harris County. The school was built in 1966 to accommodate the growing population of Baytown. It is named after Ross S. Sterling, co-founder of Humble Oil (now part of ExxonMobil) and 31st Governor of Texas. The campus has over 400,000 square feet (37,000 m2) and is built on 86.32 acres (349,300 m2). In 2015, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency.Sections of the city of Baytown are zoned to Sterling High School. Previously, sections of Highlands were until the Goose Creek Memorial High School was built in 2008.

The mall had a gross leasable area of 1,156,000 sq ft (107,400 m2). The mall ceased operations on January 4, 2020 and will be redeveloped into an outdoor shopping destination. The first phase is due to open in November 2020. The mall was anchored by Sears, JCPenney, Macy's, Montgomery Ward, Mervyn's, Service Merchandise, Bealls, Palais Royal, and Marshalls.

Lee College is a public community college in Baytown, Texas. Lee College's main campus occupies 40 acres (160,000 m2) near downtown Baytown and extension campuses throughout its service area. The school has an enrollment of over 7,773 total students as of Fall 2018. Approximately 83% are part-time students, and about 17% are enrolled full-time. The college offers over 60 academic, technical education, and non-credit continuing education programs.

The district serves all of Baytown, Highlands, Coady, McNair, outlying areas of East Harris County, and a small portion of West Chambers County. The district has a total enrollment of 23,765 students and 1,534 staff. The district's total actual budget for 2019-2020 is US$293.9 million.In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.

Robert E. Lee High School is a public high school in Baytown, Texas, that serves grades 9 through 12. It was opened as a segregated school, and named after Confederate Army commander Robert E. Lee. Lee is one of four high schools in the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District. The building is a Texas historic landmark.

George Washington Carver High School was a public secondary school in Baytown, Texas. It served as the high school for Black students until the public schools in the area were desegregated.

ExxonMobil's Baytown Refinery is a major oil refinery named after and located in Baytown, Texas. It has capacity of 584,000 barrels per day (92,800 m3/d). The site first opened in 1919 and was originally operated by the Humble Oil Company. Today, it is the largest employer in the city. The plant takes up 2,400 acres (9.7 km2) of land next to the Houston Ship Channel. The Baytown Refinery is the second-largest refinery in the United States by production, after the nearby Port Arthur Refinery. Baytown is also ExxonMobil's second largest refinery, only trailing Exxon's Jurong Island refinery in Singapore.On December 23, 2021, a large explosion occurred at the refinery in what was described as a major industrial accident by both local and national news. The explosion, caused by a fire, occurred around 1AM and seriously injured five workers, four of which were airlifted to the hospital with one being transported by ambulance. No fatalities were reported. Two of the injured contract workers have filed a $10 million lawsuit against ExxonMobil and partner Team Industrial Services for unsafe working conditions as of a result of the explosion.

Stallworth Stadium is a stadium in Baytown, Texas. It is primarily used for American football and soccer and is the home field of Robert E. Lee High School, Ross S. Sterling High School, and Goose Creek Memorial High School. All three schools are in the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District. The stadium holds 16,500 people and opened in 1969 when Memorial Stadium (now Sultis Stadium) on the Robert E. Lee campus became too small. Stallworth Stadium is on a neutral site and not on any of the three campuses in GCCISD. On October 29, 1976, President Gerald Ford attended a game between the Robert E. Lee Ganders and the Aldine-McArthur Generals. The President, on the campaign trail in Houston, stayed long enough to see the Ganders reach a 21–0 lead over the Generals en route to a 34–0 victory. In addition, the Bayou Bowl, a high school all-star game between players from Louisiana and Texas, takes place annually at the venue. Starting in 2006, the stadium is occasionally used for middle school football games. The stadium was also the home of the Baytown chapter of The American Cancer Society's Bay Area Relay for Life until it moved to Royal Purple Raceway, due to the GCCISD bus barn in the stadium's parking lot.
