Vake District

Ilia Chavchavadze Avenue (Georgian: ილია ჭავჭავაძის გამზირი) is one of the main avenues of Tbilisi and is named after the writer Ilia Chavchavadze. The avenue is located on the right bank of the Kura River in the Vake district of Tbilisi and is a continuation of Melikishvili and Rustaveli Avenue. It was originally, from 1935 to 1957 named Niko Marr Street after the orientalist Nicholas Marr.

"David Aghmashenebeli University of Georgia" – "DAUG" (Georgian: საქართველოს დავით აღმაშენებლის სახელობის უნივერსიტეტი – "სდასუ") was founded in 1991. The University offers the Bachelor's (four-year), Master's (two-years) and Doctoral (three-years) programmes according to the ECTS (European System of Credits and Transfers) which is based on the modern methods of teaching and evaluation. The Medical University metro station (Georgian: სამედიცინო უნივერსიტეტი, romanized: sameditsino universit'et'i) on the Saburtalo Line in Tbilisi, Georgia. It opened in 1979 as Komkavshiri until being renamed in 1992. The station is named after Tbilisi State Medical University.

Vake Park (Georgian: ვაკის პარკი) is a public park in Tbilisi. The park was opened in 1946 and is located in the Vake district of Tbilisi at the western end of Chavchavadze Avenue.World War II Memorial sits at the top of the hill in the park.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Georgian: უცნობი ჯარისკაცის საფლავი, romanized: utsnobi jarisk'atsis saplavi) is a monument and memorial in Vake Park in central Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. It commemorates the hundreds of thousands of Georgian soldiers who served and died in the Red Army during the Second World War. The monument was opened officially by Soviet General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev and First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Georgian SSR Eduard Shevardnadze, as part of the diamond jubilee of the republic. Between 1981 and 1985, Georgian sculptor Giorgi Ochiauri created sculptures that were placed around the tomb, which would later be moved in 2009 to Gori Fortress. The tomb features an eternal flame, as well as sculptures to fallen soldiers and the rising figure of the goddess Kali Ma (black mother). Georgian veterans of war and residents of the capital gather at the tomb to commemorate holidays such as Victory Day (9 May). Foreign leaders also lay wreaths at the tomb during their state visits to the capital. Dignitaries such as Leonid Brezhnev, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko have visited the tomb.

Alexander Kazbegi Avenue (Georgian: ალექსანდრე ყაზბეგის გამზირი) is one of the main avenues of Tbilisi and is named after the writer Alexander Kazbegi. The avenue is located on the right bank of the Kura River in the Saburtalo and Vake districts of Tbilisi and starts at Pekini Avenue and ends at Petre Kavtaradze street. In 1941 it was originally named Pavlov street. The development of the street began in 1956 with several administrative educational buildings. In 1990 Pavlov street was renamed into Alexander Kazbegi Avenue.

The Tbilisi Zoological Park (Georgian: თბილისის ზოოლოგიური პარკი, t'bilisis zoologiuri parki) is the oldest and largest zoo in Georgia, in the country's capital of Tbilisi. Founded in 1927, it is located in the Vere River valley in central Tbilisi. The zoo was heavily affected by a flood on 14 June 2015, leaving many of its inhabitants dead or on the loose. Prior to that, the zoo occupied the area of approximately 120 hectares and was populated by around 300 species, native to the Caucasus as well as other regions of the world.

The National Archives of Georgia is the legal entity of public law under the Ministry of Justice of the nation of Georgia. The National Archives holds written documents, film documents, photos, and audio records, totaling more than five million exhibits. The exhibits preserved at the depositories of the archives are dated back to the 9th through 21st century. They include: historical, contemporary history, audio-visual archives and local archives from every region. The documents in the Archives are official, and their preservation has been established by law. Some of the preserved documents include texts from the First Republic, scientific archives, the parish books that hold information about the christening and the death of citizens, the gospel of the 9th century, Anchi gospel (12th century), Kings' deeds, private letters, verdicts, other legal monuments, photos from the 19th century, first film documents, and the documents of different state or private structures.

Georgian Technical University (GTU, formerly V.I. Lenin Georgian Polytechnical Institute) is the main and largest technical university of Georgia. It is located in the capital city of Tbilisi.

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (Georgian: ივანე ჯავახიშვილის სახელობის თბილისის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტი Ivane Javaxishvilis saxelobis Tbilisis saxelmts'ipo universit'et'i, often shortened to its historical name, Tbilisi State University or TSU) is a public research university established on 8 February 1918 in Tbilisi, Georgia. Excluding academies and theological seminaries, which have intermittently functioned in Georgia for centuries, TSU is the oldest university in Georgia and the Caucasus region. Over 23 500 students are enrolled and the total number of faculty and staff (collaborators) is 5,000. According to the U.S. News & World Report university rankings, TSU is ranked 398th in the world, tied with the University of Warsaw.The university has five branches in the regions of Georgia, six faculties, 60 scientific-research laboratories and centers, a scientific library (with 3,700,000 books and periodicals), seven museums, publishing house and printing press (newspaper Tbilisis Universiteti).The main founder of the university was a Georgian historian and academician, Ivane Javakhishvili. Among the co-founders were also several scientists, including Giorgi Akhvlediani, Shalva Nutsubidze, Dimitri Uznadze, Grigol Tsereteli, Akaki Shanidze, Andrea Razmadze, Korneli Kekelidze, Ioseb Kipshidze, Petre Melikishvili and Ekvtime Takaishvili. Professor Petre Melikishvili, a Georgian chemist, became the first rector of TSU. The Rector of TSU since September 2016 has been Giorgi Sharvashidze. TSU has six faculties: Law, Economics and Business, Humanities, Medicine, Social and Political Sciences, Exact and Natural Sciences, and the International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University as an autonomous graduate school of economics.

Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU) (Georgian: თბილისის სახელმწიფო სამედიცინო უნივერსიტეტი (თსსუ)) is a leading medical university in Tbilisi, Georgia. More than 85 years have passed since Tbilisi State Medical Institute was founded on the basis of the faculty of Medicine at Tbilisi State University (TSU). In 1992 Tbilisi State Medical Institute was renamed in Medical University.

Turtle Lake is a direct English translation of Kus Tba (Georgian: კუს ტბა), a small lake at the outskirts of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The other, less frequently used name of this lake is K'ork'i (ქორქის ტბა).
