Vake Park

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Georgian: უცნობი ჯარისკაცის საფლავი, romanized: utsnobi jarisk'atsis saplavi) is a monument and memorial in Vake Park in central Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. It commemorates the hundreds of thousands of Georgian soldiers who served and died in the Red Army during the Second World War. The monument was opened officially by Soviet General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev and First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Georgian SSR Eduard Shevardnadze, as part of the diamond jubilee of the republic. Between 1981 and 1985, Georgian sculptor Giorgi Ochiauri created sculptures that were placed around the tomb, which would later be moved in 2009 to Gori Fortress. The tomb features an eternal flame, as well as sculptures to fallen soldiers and the rising figure of the goddess Kali Ma (black mother). Georgian veterans of war and residents of the capital gather at the tomb to commemorate holidays such as Victory Day (9 May). Foreign leaders also lay wreaths at the tomb during their state visits to the capital. Dignitaries such as Leonid Brezhnev, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko have visited the tomb.

The Mikheil Meskhi Stadium, also known as the Lokomotivi Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Tbilisi, Georgia named after the famous Georgian international footballer, Mikheil Meskhi. It is used mostly for football matches, and occasionally for rugby union and rugby league matches. The stadium was renovated in 2001 and has a capacity to hold 27,223 people. It is the second largest stadium in Georgia, after the Boris Paichadze Stadium.

The Embassy of Russia in Tbilisi was the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Georgia. The chancery was located at 51 Chavchavadze Avenue in Tbilisi. On August 29, 2008, Georgia ordered the Russian ambassador Vyacheslav Kovalenko and all other Russian diplomats to leave the country and close the embassy and severed diplomatic relations with Russia. Russia and Georgia had previously fought a five-day war over two Georgian breakaway regions (Abkhazia and South Ossetia) declaring independence. The Russian Federation is represented through the Russian Federation Interests Section of the Embassy of Switzerland in Georgia.

Turtle Lake is a direct English translation of Kus Tba (Georgian: კუს ტბა), a small lake at the outskirts of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The other, less frequently used name of this lake is K'ork'i (ქორქის ტბა).

The Giorgi Chitaia Open Air Museum of Ethnography (Georgian: გიორგი ჩიტაიას სახელობის ეთნოგრაფიული მუზეუმი ღია ცის ქვეშ, giorgi chitaias sakhelobis et’nograp’iuli muzeumi ghia ts’is k’vesh) is an open-air museum in Tbilisi, Georgia, displaying the examples of folk architecture and craftwork from various regions of the country. The museum is named after Giorgi Chitaia, a Georgian ethnographer, who founded the museum on April 27, 1966. Since December 30, 2004, it has been administered as part of the Georgian National Museum.

Ilia Chavchavadze Avenue (Georgian: ილია ჭავჭავაძის გამზირი) is one of the main avenues of Tbilisi and is named after the writer Ilia Chavchavadze. The avenue is located on the right bank of the Kura River in the Vake district of Tbilisi and is a continuation of Melikishvili and Rustaveli Avenue. It was originally, from 1935 to 1957 named Niko Marr Street after the orientalist Nicholas Marr.

Alexander Kazbegi Avenue (Georgian: ალექსანდრე ყაზბეგის გამზირი) is one of the main avenues of Tbilisi and is named after the writer Alexander Kazbegi. The avenue is located on the right bank of the Kura River in the Saburtalo and Vake districts of Tbilisi and starts at Pekini Avenue and ends at Petre Kavtaradze street. In 1941 it was originally named Pavlov street. The development of the street began in 1956 with several administrative educational buildings. In 1990 Pavlov street was renamed into Alexander Kazbegi Avenue.

The Saburtalo Pantheon (Georgian: საბურთალოს საზოგადო მოღვაწეთა პანთეონი) is a burial site in Tbilisi, Georgia, where some of the most prominent scientists and cultural activities are buried. It was opened in the 1970s. It consists of old (closed) and new (opened in 2002) pantheons.

More than 85 years have passed since Tbilisi State Medical Institute was founded on the basis of the faculty of Medicine at Tbilisi State University (TSU). In 1992 Tbilisi State Medical Institute was renamed in Medical University.
