Duffins Creek

The Regional Municipalities of York and Durham jointly own the Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP), located on the shore of Lake Ontario in the City of Pickering, Ontario. This facility, which receives and treats 90 per cent of the wastewater generated by York Region, as well as wastewater from Pickering and Ajax in Durham Region, is a critical component of the York Durham Sewage System (YDSS). The YDSS was first constructed by the Province of Ontario in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The idea for this centralized sewage treatment system dates back to 1965 when the province decided that no additional sewage treatment facilities would be built on the Don and Rouge Rivers and Duffins Creek. The YDSS converges at the Duffin Creek WPCP and discharges clear, treated wastewater to Lake Ontario. The Duffin Creek WPCP has undergone significant expansion and performance upgrades over the past several years to meet growth needs in both Regions. In 2006, to meet the identified future needs and the requirements to accommodate approved growth, York and Durham Regions completed a Schedule C Municipal Class EA following Ontario Environmental Assessment Act requirements to expand plant capacity to 630 million litres per day (ML/d). Projections indicated that an expansion was required to accommodate expected growth in York Region to 2035. Referred to as the Stage 3 Expansion, this project increases wastewater treatment capacity at the WPCP from its previous capacity of 420 ML/d to 630 ML/d (annual daily average flow)At approximately 9:30 AM local time on 21 January 2014, an explosion occurred and thick black smoke could be seen rising from the building. All employees have been accounted for and no fatalities were reported.

Lakeridge Health Ajax and Pickering is a hospital in Ajax, Ontario, Canada that is operated by Lakeridge Health. The hospital opened in 1954 as the Ajax and Pickering General Hospital. It was founded in 1954 as the Ajax and Pickering General Hospital with 38 patient beds. New four-storey wings were added in 1964 and 1994. A major $80 million redevelopment project was completed in 2010. Almost 25 percent of the hospital was renovated.Management of the site was transferred from Rouge Valley Health System to Lakeridge Health effective December 1, 2016.

Pickering Nuclear Generating Station is a Canadian nuclear power station located on the north shore of Lake Ontario in Pickering, Ontario. It is one of the oldest nuclear power stations in the world and Canada's third-largest, producing about 16% of Ontario's power and employing 3,000 workers.Located at the Pickering station until October 2019 was a single 1.8 MWe wind turbine named the OPG 7 commemorative turbine. The turbine was dismantled in stages during October 2019

Ajax GO Station is a train and bus station in the GO Transit network located in Ajax, Ontario, Canada. It is a stop on the Lakeshore East line and on the Oshawa/Finch Express bus route. The train platforms lie along the south side of Highway 401 with access to the station from Westney Road at Fairall Street. A multi-level parking structure opened in 2013.

The Ajax Division was the University of Toronto's campus in Ajax, an unincorporated community (now a town) within the Pickering Township of Ontario, Canada. It was located at the site of the defunct Defence Industries Limited Pickering Works munitions plant, which was leased by the federal government to the university for a nominal rent. The Ajax Division was set up to meet the increasing demand for engineering education from World War II veterans returning from the war theatre in Europe. The university's downtown Toronto campus accommodated 400 veterans who had completed at least 29 months of active service; the Ajax campus accommodated the rest of the engineering students, both veterans and non-veterans. The campus was active between January 1946 and April 1949, with approximately 6,000 students attending classes there. At its peak, during 1946–47, it had 3,312 students and 210 instructors. By 1949, the university had built new engineering facilities in downtown Toronto, and decided to move the classes back to Toronto, declining the government's offer to buy the Ajax site for cheap.

Ajax High School (AHS) is located in Ajax, Ontario, Canada within the Durham District School Board. It is the largest secondary school in southern Ajax and the fourth-largest in all of Ajax. The school offers a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities. The school also offers a French Immersion program. Ajax High School was given a 5.5 (out of 10) rating in 2012/13 and ranked 478th out of 740 schools across Ontario.The school was opened in 1956 and has since undergone several large expansions. In the 1960s, a large section that today houses the main office, cafetorium, front entrance, courtyard, as well as several classrooms, was added. Later, in the early 2000s, a wing was added to the east side of the building. Many of these classrooms are now devoted to mathematics and science courses.

Ajax Plaza Bus Terminal was located along the east side of the shopping centre parking lot at 190 Harwood Avenue South, south of Highway 401, in Ajax, Ontario, Canada. This facility was used by Durham Region Transit, GO Transit and Greyhound. The station closed on January 2, 2014. The building has since been demolished and left the area vacant. Two DRT bus stops are located nearby.

Ajax—Pickering was a provincial electoral district in central Ontario, Canada. It was first contested in the 2007 provincial election. 55.2% of the riding came from Pickering—Ajax—Uxbridge while 44.8% came from Whitby—Ajax. The riding included all of the Town of Ajax plus that part of the City of Pickering north of Finch Avenue and east of Brock Road, as well as the area north of Highway 401 and east of Valley Farm Road. In 2018, the district was dissolved into Pickering—Uxbridge and Ajax.

Pickering Village is a community and former municipality in the Town of Ajax, Durham Region, Ontario, Canada.

The OPG 7 Gomberg Turbine was a Vestas model V80-1.8MW wind turbine in Pickering, Ontario. At the time of its construction, it was one of the largest wind turbines in North America, a 117-metre high wind machine commissioned in 2001 and designed to produce enough power to satisfy about 600 average households. This electricity was also emission-free. The commercial wind power industry has introduced steadily larger wind turbines to improve efficiency and the energy returned on energy invested. By 2008, the OPG 7 was no longer an unusually large wind turbine, with many new wind farms installing units of 3MW capacity and larger. However, this wind turbine was the only unit in the world to be directly on the site of a nuclear power plant. On September 30, 2019, Ontario Power Generation commenced dismantling the turbine as it had reached near the end of its design life. Demolition was expected to be completed by November 8.
