Bugnara is a comune and village in the province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region of southern Italy. It is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy").

Sulmona (Abruzzese: Sulmóne; Latin: Sulmo; Ancient Greek: Σουλμῶν, romanized: Soulmôn) is a comune (municipality) in the province of L'Aquila, in the Italian region of Abruzzo. It is located in the Valle Peligna, a plain once occupied by a lake that disappeared in prehistoric times. In the ancient era, it was one of the most important cities of the Paeligni and is known for being the native town of the Roman poet Ovid, of whom there is a bronze statue, located on the town's main road and named after him.

The Diocese of Sulmona-Valva (Latin: Dioecesis Sulmonensis-Valvensis) is a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in central Italy, in the Abruzzi region, approximately 120 km (75 mi) directly east of Rome. Corfinio (Valva) is 14 km north-northwest of Sulmona. The current configuration was created in 1986, through the union of the two dioceses into one. The combined single diocese is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of L'Aquila. In 1818, the status of the Diocese of Sulmona and the Diocese of Valva was acknowledged, as two separate dioceses united in having one and the same person as bishop of both dioceses, aeque personaliter, an arrangement which stretched all the way back to the 13th century, and earlier.

Castello Cantelmo (Italian for Cantelmo Castle) is a Middle Ages castle in Pettorano sul Gizio, province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, southern-central Italy.The castle, built around the 11th century, overlooks the Gizio river valley and the Valle Peligna. It has an irregular plan with cylindrical, massive towers at the north-western and south-western corners, while at south-eastern one are the remains of a quadrangular tower. In the middle is a pentagonal tower, which is the most ancient part of the castle.

The Valle Peligna, also known as Conca di Sulmona, is a plateau in central Abruzzo, southern Italy, included in the province of L'Aquila. It has a surface of some 100 km². The valley takes its name from the Paeligni. In prehistoric times, it was occupied by a lake which disappeared after a series of earthquakes approximately 300,000 years ago, leaving the land full of marshes but fertile. The former barrier between the lake and the sea was in what are now the gorges of Popoli. Three hills near Sulmona are the relics of the single island in the lake. The valley is crossed by the rivers Aterno and Sagittario. In addition to Sulmona, the main centers in the plateau include Raiano, Vittorito, Corfinio, Pratola Peligna and Pacentro.Historically, it was inhabited by the Paeligni, an Oscan tribe.
