The Dakar Grand Mosque (Arabic: المسجد الكبير في داكار) is one of the most important religious buildings in Dakar, Senegal. It is situated on Allée Pape Gueye Fall.

The Autonomous Port of Dakar (French: Port autonome de Dakar, abbreviation: PAD) is a Senegalese public enterprise which is headquartered in Dakar, located in the east of city. Thanks to the strategic position that gives it a sheltered harbor, it is now the third largest port in West Africa after the Autonomous Port of Abidjan and the Port of Lagos It is also the ninth-largest port on the African continent. The port has one of the largest deep-water seaports along the West African coast. Its deep-draft structure and 640-foot-wide (200 m) access channel allows round-the-clock access to the port. Its current infrastructure includes tanker vessel loading and unloading terminals, a container terminal with a storage capacity of 3000 20-foot-equivalent units, a cereals and fishing port, a dedicated phosphate terminal and a privately run ship repair facility. The port's location at the extreme western point of Africa, at the crossroad of the major sea-lanes linking Europe to South America, makes it a natural port of call for shipping companies. Nearby over 10 km west of the port is Les Mamelles Lighthouse (also the Ouakam Lighthouse) in which the port maintains together with its beacons.

Stade Iba Mar Diop is a multi-use stadium in Dakar, Senegal. It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as a home ground of ASC Jaraaf and US Gorée. The stadium holds 5,000 people. Other sports competitions are held there, such as handball, rugby, athletics and gymnastics. The Stade Iba Mar Diop is part of the sports facilities planned for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympics. The stadium's capacity will be increased to 8,000 seats. In addition to a sports medical center and a gymnasium, the handball court will be demolished and rebuilt. It will have a new hybrid turf pitch and two additional football pitches.

The Daniel Sorano National Theater (French: Théâtre national Daniel Sorano; TNDS) is a performing arts venue in Dakar that serves as the national theater of Senegal. Its name pays homage to the French-Senegalese actor Daniel Sorano.

The Our Lady of Victories Cathedral (French: Cathédrale Notre Dame des Victoires) or Cathedral of Dakar, is a religious building that serves as the Catholic cathedral in the city of Dakar, the capital of the African country of Senegal, which is the seat of the Archdiocese of Dakar (Latin: Archidioecesis Dakarensis). The sanctuary was built on the site of an ancient Lebu cemetery, whose land was granted by the government to the church. The construction began in 1924 and the cathedral was consecrated 12 years later, on 2 February 1936, by Cardinal Jean Verdier, archbishop of Paris. In 1964, initial the inscription above the entrance was changed into the current one. In 2001 in the church the funeral of former President Leopold Senghor was performed. Cardinal Hyacinthe Thiandoum, who died in 2004, is buried in the back of the altar, next to the statue of Our Lady of Victories, patron of the cathedral.

The National Library of Senegal (Bibliothèque nationale du Sénégal or Bibliothèque des Archives nationales du Sénégal) is located in Dakar, Senegal.

The Battle of Dakar, also known as Operation Menace, was an unsuccessful attempt in September 1940 by the Allies to capture the strategic port of Dakar in French West Africa (modern-day Senegal). It was hoped that the success of the operation could overthrow the pro-German Vichy French administration in the colony, and be replaced by a pro-Allied Free French one under General Charles de Gaulle.

Dakar-Plateau is an arrondissement in the Dakar Department, and forms the central district of the city of Dakar.

The National Assembly (French: Assemblée nationale) is the unicameral legislature of Senegal. The Assembly was previously part of a bicameral legislature from 1999 to 2001 and from 2007 to 2012, with the indirectly elected Senate being the upper house. The Senate was abolished for a second time in September 2012.

Médina is a commune d'arrondissement of the city of Dakar, Senegal, part of the Dakar-Plateau arrondissement, located in the southern part of Dakar.

The city of Dakar proper has a population of 1,030,594, whereas the population of the Dakar metropolitan area is estimated at 3.94 million in 2021. The area around Dakar was settled in the 15th century. The Portuguese established a presence on the island of Gorée off the coast of Cap-Vert and used it as a base for the Atlantic slave trade. France took over the island in 1677. Following the abolition of the slave trade and French annexation of the mainland area in the 19th century, Dakar grew into a major regional port and a major city of the French colonial empire. In 1902, Dakar replaced Saint-Louis as the capital of French West Africa. From 1959 to 1960, Dakar was the capital of the short-lived Mali Federation. In 1960, it became the capital of the independent Republic of Senegal.

The Association des Jeunes pour la Sensibilisation et la Solidarité (AJSS) is a Senegalese organization whose stated aims are to help young Senegalese away from poverty, criminality and emigration. The AJSS was officially established 23 September 2005 after a meeting held by young people from Sicap-Liberté The AJSS has approximately 400 members.
