The Smith County Historical Society, housed in the Carnegie Library, is located at 125 S. College Street in the city of Tyler, Smith County, Texas, U.S. It was built in 1904 as the Carnegie Public Library, and added to the National Register of Historic Places listings in Smith County, Texas in 1979. When Tyler built a new public library, the Carnegie building was leased to the Smith County Historical Society and continues to operate as a museum and archives.

The William M. Steger Federal Building and United States Courthouse is a historic government building built in Tyler, Texas. It was built during 1933–1934 in a restrained Classical Revival style. It served historically as a courthouse, post office, and a government office building. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001 as the Tyler US Post Office and Courthouse.It was designed by local architect Shirley Simons with supervision by the Office of the Supervising Architect under James A. Wetmore. Its materials include a dark gray mottled granite on the ground floor, light buff limestone cladding the first floor, salmon-colored brick on the second and third floors. Acroterions appear at each corner of a parapet.

Tyler is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the largest city and county seat of Smith County. It is also the largest city in Northeast Texas. With a 2020 census population of 105,995, Tyler was the 33rd most populous city in Texas and 299th in the United States. It is the principal city of the Greater Tyler metropolitan statistical area, which is the 198th most populous metropolitan area in the U.S. and 16th in Texas after Waco and the College Station–Bryan areas, with a population of 233,479 in 2020.The city is named for John Tyler, the tenth President of the United States. In 1985, the international Adopt-a-Highway movement began in Tyler. After appeals from local Texas Department of Transportation officials, the local Civitan International chapter adopted a two-mile (three kilometer) stretch of U.S. Route 69 to maintain. Drivers and other motorists traveling on this segment of U.S. 69 (between Tyler and nearby Lindale) will see brown road signs that read, "First Adopt-A-Highway in the World". Tyler is known as the "Rose Capital of America" (also the "Rose City" and the "Rose Capital of the World"), a nickname it earned from a long history of rose production, cultivation, and processing. It is home to the largest rose garden in the United States, a 14-acre public garden complex that has over 38,000 rose bushes of at least 500 different varieties. The Tyler Rose Garden Center is also home to the annual Texas Rose Festival which attracts thousands of tourists each October.As Northeast Texas and Smith County's major economic, educational, financial, medical and cultural hub, Tyler is host to more than 20,000 higher-education students; the University of Texas at Tyler; a university health science center; and regional hospital systems. It is also the headquarters for Brookshire Grocery Company, Cavender's, Southside Bank, and Synthesizers.com. Other corporations with major presence within the city and surrounding area include AT&T, T-Mobile US, Cricket Wireless and Metro by T-Mobile, Chase Bank, BBVA, Best Buy, and Walmart. Tyler is also home to the Caldwell Zoo and Broadway Square Mall.

The Jenkins-Harvey Super Service Station and Garage, at 124 S. College in Tyler, Texas, was built in 1929. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.It was designed by James P. Baugh in Art Deco style and is a landmark in Tyler.

Liberty Hall is a downtown theater operated by the city of Tyler, Texas, in conjunction with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. The venue offers live music, comedy and revivals of classic films for the East Texas region. It was refurbished in 2011, and began shows in September, 2011. The theatre seats approximately 300 people.

The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas (in case citations, E.D. Tex.) is a federal court in the Fifth Circuit (except for patent claims and claims against the U.S. government under the Tucker Act, which are appealed to the Federal Circuit). The District was established on February 21, 1857, with the division of the state into an Eastern and Western District.

Marvin Methodist Episcopal Church, South (also called Marvin United Methodist Church and Marvin Church) is a historic church at 300 W. Erwin Street in Tyler, Texas. It was built in 1890 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

On February 24, 2005, a man shot his ex-wife and son outside the courthouse in Tyler, Texas, then engaged police and court officers in a shootout. David Hernandez Arroyo Sr. opened fire in front of the courthouse with a Type 56S rifle, killing his ex-wife, and wounding his son. A downtown resident, Mark Alan Wilson, attempted to intervene but was fatally shot. Arroyo was fatally shot by police after a high-speed pursuit.

The Elks Club Building in Tyler, Texas is an International Style building built in 1949. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The Blackstone Building in Tyler, Texas is an Art Deco building built in 1938. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. Fort Worth architect Preston M. Geren designed the six-story building, which is one of only two Art Deco-style office buildings in the Tyler area. The project was financed by Tyler businessman Edmond P. McKenna and intended to ease the need for office space during the East Texas oil boom. The building housed offices for oil companies, geologists, attorneys, engineers, and more. In addition, the Blackstone was a location for the Union Bus Terminal from 1938 to the 1950s. The Blackstone Hotel next door was imploded in 1985 but the Blackstone Building still stands. It is being used as office space and houses the Tyler Chamber of Commerce.The building cost about $100,000. At one time it hosted about 15 oil industry-related businesses.It was built by Tyler contractor Hugh E. White. White is also built one of few International Style buildings in Tyler, the Elks Club Building (1949), which is also NRHP-listed.

The Discovery Science Place is a children's science museum located in Tyler, in the U.S. state of Texas. The museum is housed in an old car dealership and has been in service to the community since 1993. The museum offers an extensive array of exhibits including: A small mock television news station with working cameras and mini-control board Assorted physics-related exhibits, including a kinetic sculpture. Fish tank with assorted goldfish A large (indoor) man-made cave, with various rock/sediment exhibits built-in and an earthquake simulator. Indoor dinosaur fossil dig pit A scale representation of various public buildings located in and around Tyler, including the Smith county courthouse, Brookshire's Grocery Company, and Southside Bank.

The St. John's A.F. & A.M. Lodge, also known as Tyler Masonic Lodge, refers to a Masonic Lodge in Tyler, Texas and also to its historic building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building, located on Front Street in Tyler, Texas, was built in 1902 by St. John's Lodge #53, a local Masonic lodge (the lodge still meets in the building).The building was designed in Colonial Revival architecture by architect Shirley Simons. It was listed on the National Register in 2005. The listing included one contributing building and one contributing structure.
