Highland Park (Pittsburgh park)

The Welcome Sculptures at the North Highland Avenue entrance of Highland Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, are sculpted statues by Giuseppe Moretti that were erected in 1896. These sculptures are on the List of City of Pittsburgh historic designations.

The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium is one of only six major zoo and aquarium combinations in the United States. Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's Highland Park, the zoo sits on 77 acres (31 ha) of park land where it exhibits more than 4,000 animals representing 475 species, including 20 threatened or endangered species. The zoo's accredited membership of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) was dropped in 2015.

Tazza D'Oro (Italian: [ˈtattsa ˈdɔːro]) is a café and espresso bar located in Pittsburgh. The name means "Golden Cup/Mug" in Italian. The main location is in Highland Park neighborhood, where it has become a centerpiece of neighborhood There is a second location in the Gates and Hillman Centers at Carnegie Mellon University. It has been identified as part of a trend for higher quality coffee in Pittsburgh.The European-style cafe serves only single-origin coffee. The current coffee roaster is Verve, located in Santa Cruz, California. The cafe has acquired a reputation as being bicycle-friendly, and in honor of those customers, the cafe offers a special coffee roast called "Bicycle Love." All told, about 70% of the food is locally sourced. This includes the pastries, which are produced by the family's bakery. The cafe displays post cards from customers' travels.The owner is Amy Enrico. She is a graduate of University of Pittsburgh and was a co-founder of nTouch Research, Inc., a company that had conducted medical tests for pharmaceutical companies. Her travels, including to Seattle, inspired her dream of owning a coffee shop. Her family owns Enrico's Bakery in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. Now in its 3rd generation of family ownership, the bakery is managed by her brother.It opened in June 1999. Enrico had received assistance from Community Development Corporation, a non-profit group that assists redevelopment in Highland Park. As of 2000, the coffee shop had grown to 12 employees. The shop's original coffee roasters was Batdorf and Bronson, and later to Verve Coffee Roasters, a small company in Santa Cruz, California For a time, there had been a location on Penn Avenue in the Pittsburgh Central Downtown Historic District portion of Downtown Pittsburgh. In 2009, a new location opened in the Gates and Hillman Centers at Carnegie Mellon University. A number of businesses had sought to locate in that building, and Tazza D'Oro's offer was aided by the commitment to "fair trade and organically grown coffee."In 2009, Tazza D'Oro celebrated its 10-year anniversary with more than 200 customers who enjoyed coffee and offerings from East End Brewing Company. Enrico has worked with East Liberty Development Inc. to attract more businesses to the neighboring area, especially Bryant Street.The cafe periodically hosts local officials for discussions with constituents.

The Horse Tamers are a pair of larger-than-life sculptures in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, located at the Stanton Avenue entrance to Highland Park. They are copies after the famous Marly Horses (Chevaux de Marly) (marble, 1739-45), by sculptor Guillaume Coustou the Elder, that flank the entrance to the Champs-Élysées in Paris. The Highland Park sculptures were modeled by sculptor Giuseppe Moretti, and installed in 1900.Each depicts a youth attempting to control a rearing horse. The bronze sculptures are approximately 15 feet (4.57 m) tall, and stand upon granite bases approximately 11 feet (3.35 m) tall.The sculptures are on the City of Pittsburgh's list of designated historic landmarks.

The Fulton Elementary School (also known as Fulton Academy, and Pittsburgh Fulton PreK-5) in the Highland Park neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was built in 1894, and later added to in 1929. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The King Estate (also known as Baywood, or the Alexander King Estate, also referenced to as the King Mansion by the local children) located at 5501 Elgin Street in the Highland Park neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was built in 1880. Alexander King was the original owner of this Second Empire style house. It was added to the List of City of Pittsburgh historic designations on November 12, 1992, and the List of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmarks in 2000.

Collins Township was a township in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in the northeast part of what is now Pittsburgh. It included most of the present city east of Lawrenceville, north of Penn Avenue, and south of the Allegheny River. It was formed in 1850 from a northern portion of Peebles Township and was named for Thomas Collins, a prominent lawyer. On 30 June 1868, Collins Township along with the borough of Lawrenceville and the townships of Pitt, Oakland, Liberty, and Peebles were incorporated into Pittsburgh. The former Collins Township became wards 18, 19, and 21 of the expanded city.

The Highland Park Bridge is a truss bridge that carries vehicular traffic across the Allegheny River between the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Highland Park and the suburb of Aspinwall. It replaced a much narrower 1902 streetcar bridge that was ill-equipped to handle heavy commuter traffic, as part of the process of suburbanization in the hills northeast of the city.

The Allegheny River Lock and Dam No. 2 (also known as the Highland Park Lock and Dam) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a lock and fixed-crest dam from 1932. It crosses the Allegheny River between the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Highland Park and the suburb of Aspinwall. The lock and dam were built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a part of an extensive system of locks and dams to improve navigation along the Allegheny River. It is the most-used lock operated by the United States Army Corps of Engineers.Lock and Dam No. 2 is located about 6.7 Miles up the Allegheny River from the Point in Downtown Pittsburgh. Upriver from the dam, Allegheny Pool No. 2 has an average water elevation of 721 feet above sea level and extends about 7.8 miles upriver to Allegheny River Lock and Dam No. 3. Downriver is the Pittsburgh Pool with an average water elevation of 710 feet above sea level. Thus Lock No. 2 lifts and lowers boats about 11 feet between the pools.The Pittsburgh Pool encompasses over 24 Miles of navigable water at about 710 feet of elevation. It stretches about 6.2 Miles up the Ohio River from the Emsworth Locks and Dam, 11.2 Miles up the Monongahela River to the Braddock Locks & Dam, and 6.7 Miles up the Allegheny. The Highland Park Bridge crosses the river just above the dam. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

The Dilworth Elementary School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a historic school building, completed in April 1915. As of March 2015 it is a traditional Magnet school for pre-kindergarten through the fifth grade in the Pittsburgh Public Schools system. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The James Scott House (also known as Altholl) at 5635 Stanton Avenue in the Highland Park neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was built in 1900 in the Colonial Revival style. A carriage house was added two years later. James Scott was an executive for U.S. Steel and an immigrant from Scotland. The house was the starting point of an elopement covered by the national press. Scott's daughter Helen eloped on October 10, 1906, with Frederick Fairbanks, son of Vice President Charles W. Fairbanks. The couple were married on October 11 in Steubenville, Ohio and their story made the front page of the New York Times the next day.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 30, 1997.

The 1902 Highland Park Bridge was a cantilever through truss that carried two streetcar tracks across the Allegheny River and Sixmile Island between the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Highland Park and Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania. It was replaced by the Highland Park Bridge in 1938.
