Hanalei Bay

Hanalei Pier is a pier built into Hanalei Bay on the northern shore of the island of Kauaʻi in the state of Hawaii.

The Hanalei River on the island of Kauaʻi in Hawaii flows north from the eastern slopes of Mount Waiʻaleʻale for 26.5 km (16.5 mi) until it reaches the Pacific Ocean at Hanalei Bay as an estuary. With a long-term mean discharge of 216 cubic feet (6.12 cubic meters) per second, in terms of water flow it is the second-largest river in the state; although its watershed of 57 square kilometres (22 sq mi) is only sixth-largest on Kauaʻi, it encompasses areas of the highest recorded rainfall on the planet and plunges precipitously from its headwaters at 3,500 feet (1,100 m) above sea level. The lower, flatter portion of the river flows by Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge and many taro farms (60% of Hawaii's taro is grown in this area). The Hanalei River provides habitat for a number of amphidromous species, including gobies (5 native varieties), two native species of crustacean, the hīhīwai (Neritina granosa, an edible snail), and in its upper reaches, a threatened species of highly adapted snail (Newcomb's snail, Erinna newcombi). The Hanalei was designated an American Heritage River by US President Bill Clinton on July 30, 1998. The major bridge across the river (still one lane) is on Hawaii Route 560, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Hawaii.

Fort Alexander (Russian: форт Александра) was one of the three forts built by Georg Anton Schäffer on island of Kauai in the Kingdom of Hawaii. It was named after emperor Alexander I, and built in October 1816 near Hanalei River. It was an earthwork fort.

Hanalei is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kauaʻi County, Hawaii, United States. The population was estimated at 299 as of 2019. Hanalei means "lei making" in Hawaiian. Alternatively, the name Hanalei also means "crescent bay" and may be indicative of the shape of Hanalei Bay. Hanalei can also be translated as lei valley, referring to the rainbows that color the valley and encircle Hanalei like a wreath.

The 1978 World Cup took place November 30 – December 3 at the Makai Golf Club in Hanalei in Kauaʻi County, Hawaii. It was the 26th World Cup event. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 48 teams. Each team consisted of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results. The United States team of John Mahaffey and Andy North won by ten strokes over the Australian team of Wayne Grady and Greg Norman. The individual competition for The International Trophy was won by Mahaffey two strokes ahead of North. Greg Norman and Thailand's Sukree Onsham tied for third.

Hideaway Beach, also known as Pali Ke Kua Beach, is a small, secluded beach located on the north shore of Kauai. It sits under the cliffs of Princeville. The beach is small and secluded, with white sand and clear waters. The water is typically calm and protected from the wind, making it a great place for swimming and snorkeling.

The Hanalei Elementary School, on Kuhio Highway in Hanalei, Hawaii, is a public elementary school of the Hawaii Department of Education. It formerly occupied a historic school building that was built in 1926. This building was listed on the Hawaiʻi Register of Historic Places in 1988 and on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.The old building was probably designed by Kauai County Department of Public Works employee John Waiamau. The school is significant as an example of school architectural design that emerged in the 1920s. The state of Hawaii was planning to demolish the school to make way for a new school on its site; the building was saved by commercial developers moving it about half a mile down the Kuhio Highway to its current location in Hanalei.

The Waiʻoli Mission District at Hanalei Bay, on Route 560 along the north shore of the island of Kauaʻi, is the site of a historic mission. The first permanent missionaries to the area arrived in 1834, and the district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.The building is known as Wai‘oli Mission House and is now a museum open to the public.

Princeville is a 9,000-acre (3,600 ha) unincorporated area mostly consisting of master-planned homes and condos on the north shore of the island of Kauai in Kauai County, Hawaii, United States. The population was 2,158 at the 2010 census, up from 1,698 at the 2000 census.

The Queen's Bath is a unique ocean pool on the island of Kauaʻi, Hawaii. The ocean pool is formed by lava rock and next to multiple lagoons. It is located on the north shore of Kauaʻi in the town of Princeville, at 22°13′44.9″N 159°29′15.0″W. Small fish and tiny sea life live inside the bath while green sea turtles are a common sight in the surrounding waters. The site is considered to be dangerous and associated with a number of drownings.

KKCR (90.9 FM) is a community radio station broadcasting a variety format including Hawaiian, jazz, blues, R&B, rock, reggae, classical and world artists as well as locally produced talk programs. Licensed to the Kekahu Foundation in Hanalei, Hawaii, United States, the station serves the island of Kauaʻi and parts of Oahu. The station is owned by the Kekahu Foundation, Inc.The idea for KKCR originated in the late '80s. Janet Friend, Roy Richardson, Richard Fernandez, Jon and Lorraine Scott, and other Island residents decided to start a radio station that would serve Island residents, withstand extreme weather conditions and provide emergency information to isolated residents. The station provides one of the primary Emergency Alert System signals on Kauaʻi.

The Haraguchi Rice Mill, on Ohiki Road in Hanalei, Hawaii, on Kauai, is one of five former rice mills in Hanalei Valley. It was built in 1930 and was a corrugated iron structure on a concrete pad. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was listed on the National Register in 1983; the listing included one contributing structure and four contributing objects. The listing was shortly after 1982 Hurricane Iwa had collapsed the rice mill structure. Heavy machinery including an engine were not significantly harmed, however, and it was then thought that the structure could be restored.
