Mount Sacred Heart College was a small Catholic women's college in Hamden, Connecticut. It was founded in 1946 as Mount Sacred Heart Junior College and closed in the summer of 1997 due to low enrollment.The college was founded by Sister Mary Antonine Signorelli and operated by the Missionary Zelatrices of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an Italian religious institute now known as the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Paier College (formerly Paier College of Art) is a private for-profit art college in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Previously located in Hamden, Connecticut, Paier is the only independent art college in Connecticut.

The Hamden Bank & Trust Building is a historic commercial building at 1 Circular Drive in Hamden, Connecticut. Built in 1927, it is a fine local example of Classical Revival architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Used as a bank for many years, it now houses professional offices.

Sacred Heart Academy is a young women's college preparatory, Roman Catholic high school in Hamden, Connecticut, and part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hartford. It is run by the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an order of religious sisters founded in Italy by Mother Clelia Merloni. The school is located atop Mt. Sacred Heart, which is the U.S. Provincialate of the sisters. Their team mascot is the Shark. Their brother school is Notre Dame High School West Haven, Connecticut, and their sister school is Cor Jesu Academy in St. Louis, Missouri.

WELI (960 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to New Haven, Connecticut, and serving the New Haven and Bridgeport areas. It broadcasts a news/talk format and is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The studios are in Radio Towers Park on Benham Street in Hamden, where it shares facilities with sister stations WKCI-FM and WAVZ. Transmitting towers for WELI are also at this location. WELI is powered at 5,000 watts, non-directional by day. To protect other stations on or near 960 AM from interference, at night it uses a directional antenna with a four-tower array. Programming is also heard on 215 watt FM translator W245DK at 96.9 MHz.

Highwood is a neighborhood in the south-central portion of the town of Hamden, Connecticut. It is primarily residential, with a mixture of small apartment buildings and single-family, two- and three-family homes. Commercial development is concentrated on its principal street, Dixwell Avenue. Immigrants from Germany were the first to settle the area extensively in the 1860s, followed by others from Ireland, Italy, and Eastern Europe later in the nineteenth century. Today it is predominantly African American.There are no officially established boundaries for the neighborhood. One map has it bounded on the north by Helen Street and Putnam Avenue, on the east by Newhall Street, on the south by the New Haven city line, and on the west by Fitch Street and Fairview Avenue. The census tract with GEOID 09009165500, corresponding closely to these boundaries, had a population of 4,959, as of the 2010 census. Several other names have been given to the neighborhood. The German immigrants named it Hamburg after the city in their homeland. It was given the Highwood name in 1888 by its first postmaster, Daniel Visel, while looking at tall trees through the window. It is also known as South Hamden, and its eastern portion has also been called Newhall; however, it should not be confused with the adjoining Newhallville neighborhood in New Haven.

Eli Whitney Technical High School, or Whitney Tech, is a technical high school located in Hamden, Connecticut, which receives students from many nearby towns. Eli Whitney Tech is part of the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System.

Salma K. Farid Academy (SKF Academy) is a private Islamic preschool and elementary school in Hamden, Connecticut. The non-profit coeducational school's core principles, curriculum, and daily practices are based solely on the Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad. The school serves children between the ages of 3 and 12 years old during the day, and up to 18 years after school. It also offers adult classes in the evenings.

Highville Charter School for International Studies is a charter school situated on Leeder Hill Drive, Hamden, Connecticut, USA. It was founded by Lyndon Pitter and opened in Fall 1998. Highville educates pupils from pre-kindergarten to Grade 8 with around 300 on the roll. Highville changed their name to Highville Charter School and increase their enrollment to 12th grade. The high school is called Highville Change Academy. Highville Charter School relocated to 1 Science Park New Haven, CT 06511 in 2017. Highville is notable in that all teaching is carried out in an international context. In the school, each classroom is named after a country. It also has branded a travel agency website.

Hamden High School is a four-year high school for grades 9 through 12. It is located at 2040 Dixwell Avenue in Hamden, Connecticut. It is part of the Hamden Public School System and is the only public high school within the town of Hamden. The school was built in 1935 and is still in operation today, although it has gone through numerous renovations. Most recent was the removal of previous additions along with part of the original building, and the addition of 3 additional wings, all of which are attached to the original front wing to form a square. One of its most notable features is a golden cupola atop a clock tower, at the front of the building. Below the clock tower sits a small circular window, with two draping plaster banners on the sides seeming to form the letter 'M,' and giving the building the nickname "the MOM building." While most students come from the Hamden Middle School, many others come from private and magnet schools in the surrounding area.

WATX (1220 AM Stereo; "Connecticut Gold") is a radio station licensed to Hamden, Connecticut. The station is owned by Clark Smidt, and broadcasts an oldies format. Under its previous call sign WQUN, the station aired the adult standards format America's Best Music from Westwood One before going silent on May 31, 2019. The station resumed broadcasting on May 28, 2020, to satisfy FCC requirements and retain the license for another six months until returning to the air with reduced power on May 8, 2021.

The Pistol Factory Dwelling is a historic house at 1322 Whitney Avenue in Hamden, Connecticut. Built in 1845 and enlarged before 1860, it is an unusual example of a Greek Revival worker's boarding house, built by Eli Whitney II (son and business success to inventor Eli Whitney) to house workers at his nearby pistol factory. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
