Faulk and Gauntt Building

The Henderson County Courthouse, built in 1913, is an historic 3-story redbrick Classical Revival style courthouse building with full basement located at 100 East Tyler Street in Athens, Texas. The courthouse has been designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark since 2002. Designed by L. L. Thurman, who also previously designed the Jeff Davis County Courthouse in Fort Davis, it is unusual for its angled wings. It also has a central cupola which is not seen in most images, but there is no rotunda under the cupola. It is Henderson County's fourth courthouse and the second in Athens. The first one was built in 1850 in Buffalo, now a ghost town, and the second was built in 1861 in Centerville, which is also a ghost town today. The third courthouse was built in Athens in 1887.

Henderson County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 82,150. The county seat is Athens. The county is named in honor of James Pinckney Henderson, the first attorney general of the Republic of Texas, and secretary of state for the republic. He later served as the first governor of Texas. Henderson County was established in 1846, the year after Texas gained statehood. Its first town was Buffalo, laid out in 1847. Henderson County comprises the Athens micropolitan statistical area, which is also included in the Dallas-Fort Worth combined statistical area.

The city has called itself the "Black-Eyed Pea Capital of the World." Athens was selected as one of the first "Certified Retirement Communities" in Texas. Athens was incorporated in 1856 and was named after Athens, the capital of Greece.

Athens High School is a public high school located in Athens, Texas, United States and classified as a 4A school by the UIL. It is part of the Athens Independent School District located in central Henderson County. In 2015, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. The school was rebuilt in the 1950s because it burned down after being set fire by a student. The male student purposely lit the curtains in the gymnasium on fire, resulting in the whole building burning down.

Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) is a public community college based in Athens, Texas. It has six campuses serving five counties across the southeast and eastern parts of the state.

The East Texas Arboretum and Botanical Society "ETABS" (over 100 acres) is an arboretum and collection of botanical gardens and historical buildings located at 1601 Patterson Road, Athens, Texas in the United States. It is open daily, an admission fee is charged. ETABS is a not-for-profit recognized by the IRS as a 501 (c)(3). Memberships are available and donations are welcome. The arboretum was established in 1993 on the site of a former truck farm, with dry hills, hardwood forest, seasonal bogs, and permanent wetlands along Walnut Creek. Volunteer work is ongoing. At present the site features the arboretum and a variety of gardens, including butterfly, cottage, display, herb, kitchen, native plant, perennial, master gardeners' Dream Garden, and rose gardens. It also contains a collection of historical buildings, water garden, and two miles of hiking trails. Web site features history, maps, photos and brochures. The office is located in the Women's building where many of the local garden clubs meet and socialize. Events include fundraisers, gardening workshops, festivals and is available for private events such as weddings and family gatherings.

Licensed to Athens, Texas, United States, the station serves Henderson County. The station is owned and operated by High Plains Radio Network, through licensee HPRN Radio Network, LLC.. On December 30, 2016, Lake Country Radio filed to sell KLVQ, KCKL, and translator K233BE to Monte Spearman and Gentry Todd Spearman's High Plains Radio Network for $250,000. The transfer of license was granted and consummation of the sale concluded on June 9, 2017.
