The Southwest community consists of the following neighborhoods: Linden Hills, East Harriet, Kingfield, Fulton, Lynnhurst, Tangletown, Armatage, Kenny, and Windom. This portion of Minneapolis contains many parks and trails along Lake Harriet and Minnehaha Creek.

The Interlachen Bridge is a reinforced concrete arch bridge on William Berry Parkway between Bde Maka Ska and Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The bridge crosses the Como-Harriet Streetcar Line, a heritage streetcar line operated by the Minnesota Streetcar Museum which follows the same right-of-way as the original Twin Cities Rapid Transit line of the same name. The bridge was designed by local builder William S. Hewett. The bridge is one of the most significant bridges in Minnesota because it is the earliest known extant concrete bridge with a documented construction date. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 6, 1989, as part of the Reinforced-Concrete Highway Bridges in Minnesota MPS.The Interlachen Bridge was based on the Melan reinforcing system, invented by Viennese engineer Josef Melan and patented in the United States in 1894.

The Como-Harriet Streetcar Line (CHSL) is a heritage streetcar line in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which follows original streetcar right-of-way between Lake Harriet and Bde Maka Ska and is operated by the Minnesota Streetcar Museum. The heritage line was originally developed in the 1970s by the Minnesota Transportation Museum which spun off streetcar operations in the winter of 2004–2005.

The Bde Maka Ska Public Art Project is part of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board's Bde Maka Ska–Harriet Master Plan. In parallel with (but separate from) the restoring the name of Lake Calhoun to its Dakota name, Bde Maka Ska, a public art project was initiated to commemorate Ḣeyata Oṭuŋwe, a 19th-century Dakota agricultural community on the southeast bank of Bde Maka Ska, and its founder, Dakota leader Maḣpiya Wic̣aṡṭa (Cloud Man).

Lake Harriet is a lake in southwest Minneapolis, south of Bde Maka Ska and north of Minnehaha Creek. The lake is surrounded by parkland as part of Minneapolis’ Chain of Lakes. The lake has an area of 335 acres (1.36 km2) and a maximum depth of 85 feet (26 m).

The Queen Avenue Bridge is a reinforced concrete single-span barrel arch bridge in Minneapolis that spans the tracks used by the Minnesota Streetcar Museum. The bridge was built in 1905 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.Much of the significance of the bridge is due to it being the third-oldest reinforced concrete arch bridge in Minnesota. It also retains most of the integrity of the design from its original plans.It was evaluated in 1989 as part of the Reinforced-Concrete Highway Bridges in Minnesota MPS, and then listed on the National Register that year.

The Minnesota Streetcar Museum (MSM) is a transport museum that operates two heritage streetcar lines in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the western suburb of Excelsior.

The Loren L. Chadwick Cottages are two cottages in the Linden Hills neighborhood of in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, situated roughly south of Bde Maka Ska and northwest of Lake Harriet. This area of Minneapolis was platted in 1882-83 as "Cottage City" by a local real estate developer, Louis F. Menage. He platted small 25 feet (7.6 m)-wide lots, as opposed to the normal lot width of 40 feet (12 m), in an effort to attract people who wanted to build summer lake cottages.Loren L. Chadwick built these two cottages in 1902 at a cost of $300 each. They were small, measuring 16 feet (4.9 m) by 30 feet (9.1 m), and had screened porches to take advantage of summer breezes from the nearby lakes. The two cottages were rented out as summer homes for more than a decade before they were bought by individual owners. In 1972, a new owner joined the two cottages with an addition on the rear. The cottages were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. They are significant because although their design is simple, their survival demonstrates a good example of cottage architecture in Minneapolis. Despite their simplicity, the cottages have Carpenter Gothic detailing on the vergeboards of their gable and porch roofs.

Herbert Butros Khaury (April 12, 1932 – November 30, 1996), also known as Herbert Buckingham Khaury, and known professionally as Tiny Tim, was an American singer, ukulele player, and musical archivist. He is best remembered for his 1968 hit "Tiptoe Through the Tulips", which he sang in a falsetto voice.

Lyndale Park is a Minneapolis city park on the northeast side of Lake Harriet. It is next to Lakewood Cemetery, southeast of Bde Maka Ska. It is part of an enormous greenspace circling through Minneapolis called the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway, and is one of the seven districts within, called the Chain of Lakes. The other six districts within Grand Rounds are the Downtown Riverfront, Mississippi River, Minnehaha, Theodore Wirth, Victory Memorial Parkway, and Northeast. Managed by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, the 53-mile (85 km) parkway system has numerous parks and parkways, lakes (22 within the city limits), streams and creeks, the Mississippi River, and the 53-foot (16 m) high Minnehaha Falls. The 6,400-acre (26 km2) park system is designed so that every home in Minneapolis is within six blocks of green space. Lyndale Park is 61 acres (250,000 m2) and contains four gardens; the Peace Garden, the Rose Garden, the Perennial Garden, and the Perennial Trial Garden. Immediately adjacent to the Peace Garden is the Thomas Sadler Roberts Bird Sanctuary.

Station 28 of the Minneapolis Fire Department is a former fire station in the Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. The station was built in 1914, during a time when the population of Minneapolis was growing rapidly. The Linden Hills neighborhood was evolving from a remote lakeside community to a neighborhood fully integrated into the city. This period of expansion also saw the construction of Lake Harriet Public School in 1898, city sewers in 1905, and Linden Hills Community Library in 1911.The station was the second-to-last station originally built by the city, and it was the first to be designed solely for motorized equipment. The earlier horse-drawn rigs required more space and time, as well as upkeep for the horses. Motorized fire engines were less expensive and more efficient, and they were able to cover more territory with a decreased response time.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. The building has since been converted to office space, while Station 28 is now housed in a building at 2810 West 50th Street.The street level of this building has been recently used as a restaurant space, and is currently occupied by the Harriet Brasserie.

Robert Pratt (December 12, 1845 – August 8, 1908) was an educator and the 18th mayor of Minneapolis. Pratt was born in Brandon, Vermont in 1845. During the American Civil War he served with the 5th Vermont Infantry. Shortly after the war, he relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he served as an alderman, member of the park board, and longtime member of the Board of Education. He was also elected mayor in 1894 and re-elected in 1896. Pratt died on August 8, 1908. He is buried in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.Pratt School in the Prospect Park neighborhood of Minneapolis is named after his son, Sidney Pratt, who was killed in the Spanish–American War.
