British Cemetery of Surat also known as The English Cemetery located at Katargam Darwaja in Surat, walking distance from The Dutch cemetery, British Cemetery was Built around 378 years ago, this Cemetery has graves of many former governors of Bombay Presidency & many officials of East India Company.

Katargam is a suburb in Surat city and host of the world famous Surat diamond industry. Today Katargam is one of the best developed areas in Surat city and also boasts of diamond industries. It is home to the upper middle class of the city's residents. The area is also known as dense Concrete Jungle. It was a Nagar Panchayat in 1970s but was later amalgamated in Surat Municipal Corporation. Due to the development of Diamond Industries in the town it spurred growth in population and its population is around 0.7 million as of 2008 estimates. The majority of the population is from Saurastra also known as Katiyawad. The town has grown in size in the year 2006 with an amalgamation of municipalities of Amroli, Chapprabhatta, Kosad. It has a very famous riverside view called Cause Way which is developed on the bank of river Tapi. Surat city has been developed mainly due to River Tapi. About in 1730 first Baghdadi Jew Joseph Semah arrived from Baghdad to Surat and set up the Surat Synagogue here (It was a big Port of British India. Now part of Gujarat state and commercial capital of Gujarat in western part of India). They established Synagogue and Cemetery in Katargam area of the city. Still there is a graveyard in the city but in very bad condition

Katargam is one of the 182 Legislative Assembly constituencies of Gujarat state in India. It is part of Surat district and came into existence after 2008 delimitation.

The expedition to Surat was the failed establishment of a factory at Surat by the Swedish East India Company in April 1760. After being instigated by both British and Dutch authorities, the local Nawab sent Indian troops and occupied the fortress, holding Christopher Henric Braad and several of his companions captive for 20 days.

The Battle of Surat was fought on 2 February 1704, off Surat, India, by a Portuguese squadron of one ship of the line and seven frigates, commanded by Jorge de Sousa de Meneses, and an Omani squadron of nine ships of the line and frigates.

It is on the Ahmedabad–Vadodara–Mumbai rail route. The railway station was built in 1860. Going north, Utran Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Udhna Junction Railway Station is to the south of Surat. In early 2016, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation rated the facility the best large station in India based on cleanliness. Railway station of Surat is on the first floor from ground. Surat Municipal Corporation planning to create world class new railway station. The nearest international airport is Surat Airport.

In April 1837, a fire broke out in the Indian city of Surat, then under British East India Company rule. It resulted in more than 500 deaths and the destruction of 9,737 houses in a 93⁄4 mile radius. It was the most destructive fire in the history of the city.

Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) is a medical college and teaching hospital in Surat, Gujarat, India, which is the fourth-fastest-growing city in the world. It was established in 2000 and has been affiliated to the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. The institute is spread over a floor area of 18,427 square metres (198,350 sq ft) for the medical college, and 75,217 square metres (809,630 sq ft) for the hospital section. It was developed with a total expenditure of Rs. 484.29 million by the Surat Municipal Corporation.The medical college admits 150 undergraduate students each year. The college campus has an area of 25 acres (100,000 m2). SMIMER is owned and run by the Surat Municipal Corporation and is approved by the Medical Council of India under MCI Act 10 A. The college has its own hospital located next to the medical college complex with 500 beds, out of which 90% are free beds and 10% are paying beds in the special wards. Dr. Vandana Desai is the Administrative Medical Superintendent. The casualty department i.e. emergency medicine or trauma center is available 24 hours a day and an average of 100–125 patients are treated every day. The hospital is a non-profit organisation run by Surat Municipal Corporation.

Saraswati Mandir, also known as Sarika Sadan or Narmad House, is a writer's house museum in Surat, Gujarat, India. It was built by Gujarati poet Narmad in 1866. In 2015, the house was renovated and converted into museum and memorial house dedicated to Narmad.

Varachha is a Suburb in Surat city and host of the Surat Diamond and embroidery Industry. The people of Saurashtra of Western Gujarat have moved away from their rain-starved native to Surat in search for income generation and survival almost four decades ago. Since then Saurashtrians have considered Surat as their home land. After coming to Surat, some individuals began trading business while majority of them entered into labour front in a phased manner. The population of the people involved in diamond trade and embroidery market belonging to Saurashtra increased to a sizeable extent in Surat particularly in the area of Varachha.

J.J. Training College was formerly an English school established in 1827 from the donation by Seth Sorabji Jamshedji Jijibhai. Later this school was known as "Sorabji Jamshedji Jijibhai High School". In 1939 the high school was closed by the government to begin a college for training primary school teachers.The collage is located in front of Surat Castle, in Surat in the western Indian state of Gujarat.
